That will only apply the filtering to POL, not the actual game. I tried it.Originally Posted by Kaisha

There was nothing for these to "fix" under XP and you aren't going to get a miraculous frame rate boost outside of certain situations, thats the reason these were posted directly to the Vista + Nvidia thread three days ago. The FFXI portion of these drivers was to address the Nvidia + Vista + FFXI (DX8) clusterfuck, and thats exactly what they fix. You aren't going to get fps improvements otherwise, and the firaga bug was fixed with the 163's. These are also very unstable in a lot of things other than FFXI, so unless you are specifically affected by the Vista + Nvidia + FFXI bug there's no reason for you to install them, stick with the .13s for Crysis / CoD4 / etc. or the latest WHQL release.
Add that to OP then...
The whole reason these drivers were created were because of the 8x00 issues with Vista/FFXI everyone was having. If you hop on over to the Technical support forum, you'll see a stickied topic about it. That's the main reason these drivers were created. I'm sure the only reason they released .17 drivers for xp was because they have to .
Ty thats what I wanted to know.
I have the fps issue on my Vista32 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS, but the list does not say anything about "M" cards. Can anyone with a mobile card confirm whether this driver works or not?
Dear holiest of christs.... this pretty much made FFXI run super-smooth for me on max settings. It's quite yumtastic to run into a besieged or campaign and have no FPS drop. NPCs and PCs just fade in and out randomly when they run out of draw distance and the chat lags but I never get any graphical lag. Also noticed improvements in my Crysis FPS too.
it says i cant install cuz "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit" but i have a GeForce 6800 on XP, on my laptop. Any ideas to help me out?
Once again this fix is only for Vista systems.
wth, whys it say for Windows XP then
ForceWare Release 169 BETA for Windows XP and Vista. Apparently makes a HUGE difference.
I can't help you there. If it says you can't install the drivers then you need to roll the ones you have back so that you can install these. Since these are brand new drivers, it's either you downloading the wrong ones or your system's drivers are up to date and you can't install them.
You need a modded driver INF to change nVidia drivers on laptops from the machine-specific ones. This place should help.Originally Posted by CailIfrit

Ugh, this is killing me. I was so excited about the thought of a driver that would allow me to actually watch movies and play FFXI /sigh
I installed these drivers and its just like every other driver past 91.47. It makes my videos stop working (will cause PC to shit bricks) and FFXI looks like total butt. Odd white textures everywhere ><
If ANYONE knows ANYTHING that might help me with my problem, please do let me know. FYI I got nVidia 7800GS AGP and a AMD FX64 CPU. Running Windows XP SP2.
Good luck to everyone else out there that has problems with FFXI and actually doing something else other then playing 1 game -.-

I would like to know the validity of this. How is it possible to get no frame drops in campaign with these drivers(I'm assuming you're on vista) when I get below 9.0 FPS in Campaign in Ronfaure with 162.18 on WinXP. Please elaborate.Originally Posted by kuronosan
EDIT: corrected my ForceWare version.
The G92 8800 GTS WHQL release drivers should be public soon (169.21), which will make these irrelevant. Can't post them yet, but they should be out within a few hours so someone should be able to re-test for the fix. I'm not going to re-install FFXI just to test drivers, but they have cleared up quite a few lingering issues that have been a problem since 169.04 (aspect scaling, etc.) so I assume the FFXI Vista fix is still in place.
I'm using Windows XP and they made a huge difference in game, however, this screwed most of other game I have, like Bioshock or Counterstrike.
Other than that, we can't expect much more, it's DirectX 8 we are talking about, not 9. /sigh
Can those of you who installed these drivers test other games and report back please?
So far people said that Bioshock, TF2 and counter strike have issues with these drivers. I dont want to fix one game to break 10 others.
