Bioshock seems to run fine so far. Only issue I have is that EVE-Online lost antialiasing.
Apart from that, I haven't slowed down much even with full shadows.

There are more problems with nVidia and FFXI apart from the 8x00 series. For the longest time certain casting effects like Utsusemi, Bard Songs and Firaga would cause nVidia cards to slow to a crawl. Can anyone confirm whether or not this fixes this problem? I'll try and test tonight when I get a chance regardless.

I installed the new driver and it's like night and day. No lag in Campaign (who knows about Besieged, that's so 2006), bard songs and fire spells all make no more difference than voke and water spells do to the game. I'm so very very happy.
I'm not a technical person so I don't know if this is possible or it's in my head, but everything (both FFXI and desktop/non-game stuff) looks so much shaper now. Really, really pretty.
Worked fine for me on XP.Originally Posted by yrpaine

For those with laptops trying to get drivers from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com :
They had a server move about 2 weeks ago, so the "download" link isn't working. So basically just enter the forum, click on the 160 drivers link, then download 169.17 for Vista 32bit and the modded inf file so you can install it on your laptop. Replace the nVidia inf, and you're good to go.
So yeah, anyone know where the FFXI profile in the 3D Settings went? Or hell, anyone know how I can use Anistropic Filtering to work? Please?
I'm having this annoying issue with my Sony Vaio AR520E, my card is a Nvidia 8400M GT.
i have been trying to update to this new driver and it kept giving me this error.

i dunno what to do, all i see is update for 8400 GS or GE but nothing for GT
what should i do ? i have troid that laptop2go web and i got nothing from it, bcz it tells me that my driver is up to date. /cry
I'd also be interested in hearing how these affect other games. I don't even play FFXI on my Vista/8 Series NVIDIA comp because of how bad the fps were before, but I also don't want to screw-up other games I play on this system.
To recap what I have read so far in this thread about other games and these drivers:
Team Fortress 2: Worse performance (water issues)
Crysis: Better FPS with these??? (NVIDIA released drivers specifically for Crysis, were you using those drivers before the ones listed in this thread??)
Games I would be interested in testing: (I'll test these games with the new drivers by this weekend if no one else has)
Call of Duty 4
Enemy Territory: Quake Wars
Bioshock

If I could explain to you why it's running so smooth then believe me I would. But I zoned out of whitegate afterwards and my FPS never dropped or tanked once. I use stock windower so I don't know how to check my FPS for you.
sorry i read direction from Nvidia forum, now i got it.
but i'm still very low on frame only getting 10~13 frame in withegate![]()
I was getting .3 before the drivers. I get about 15fps at whitegate AH, but I've always gotten 15fps at the AH.Originally Posted by yoyo
Izzy pointed you guys with laptops where to go.
The disabled "Driver Downloads" tab confused me at first too, but just go to:
Community Forums > Release 160 drivers > v169.17 Vista 32bit (for most of us.)
The link to the driver download, the modded INF file as well as a "Quickstart Guide" for people like me who need directions are all right there.

My new laptop with an 8600M GS and Vista should be arriving today, looking forward to finally getting off pS2. ^^
I use Vista with a 8800 card and I went from 10~15 fps to 29 fps (only real drop I get is when I'm near the whitegate AH). Works great for me so far, thanks for the update.![]()
anyway for me to get 29frame after the update ?
Works like a charm, much thanks.
By the way, other games like Crysis work just fine with these drivers as well, for me at least
Enjoy your laptop, we probley have the same one. I love mine! lolOriginally Posted by xZoidbergx
Thank you very much to the OP. My buddy's FFXI on his laptop runs like a dream now.
Once you get to this point, you have to back out and download the modded inf and place it in the directory you chose to extract the driver.Originally Posted by yoyo
Then run the setup.exe file in that same directory to start the install process again and it won't give you that error.
Edit: Since this multiple links for people with laptops could be confusing, this is where you get the modded inf file for 32 bit vista.
