The Nvidia Control Panel won't open at all now. I tried unistalling the driver, and reinstalling it again but it's the same. Any ideas or am I overlooking something stupid?

My BIOS settings were reset after I installed these, and my computer freaked out because I removed his floppy drive. lol
Anyway, this didn't fix my problem that I've been having, but I'm just going to chalk it up to me having the 6600 series in my computer and desperately needing upgraded hardware in general.
I know its not on the list- but has anyone tried these drivers with an equivalent PoS to my GeForce FX 5600? It just seems that over the past year my framerate has been on the constant decline- so much so that I've been reverting to 2 year old drivers at times to try and get it back at least into the teens in dynamis/etc.
And yeah, new comp is high on the priority list- hopefully tax refund money^^
Quick question for those technologically inclined.
I dl/installed the Modified inf file for my GeForce Go 7600, everything went well until I logged in and my menus weren't there lol. Well.. they were there, just invisible. Anyone run into this problem yet?
Thanks!
Anyone else having shitty results in FFXI with the 169.21 drivers?
yeah, i downloaded the .21 drivers today and installed and it's running pretty much as crappy as usual.
i still can't get the .17 drivers to install on my desktop for some reason. Still thinks i'm not running 32-bit Vista even though i am. I was hoping the .21 drivers would solve the problem, but no dice. I've tried every thing i can think of to try to install the .17 drivers...installing my old .12 drivers then running installation for .17, then i tried running driver cleaner in between and tried it, then i let windows find the driver and tried to install over that, but i just can't get it to install for some reason.
is there someway to trick the installer so it runs anyway since i'm 100% sure i'm running 32-bit Vista? i'm assuming it doesnt have anything to do with the fact that the .17 drivers say they're the international ones vs. english since no one else seems to be having this problem.
So, for anyone who reads the thread from this point forward:
169.17 ARE GOOD FOR FFXI ON VISTA
169.21 ARE BAD FOR FFXI ON VISTA
I actually installed XP professional and removed Vista from my system because of this problem way back when. Looking forward to see if this fixes the low fps issue I had when I was around more than like 4 pcs. Probably give it a try after finals or something
I have a GeForce Go 7600 in my laptop as well, and had no problems with menus or anything after installing the 169.17 drivers. Unfortunately I didn't notice much of an increase in performance either, though - I still get 29 fps in uncrowded areas like I did before and still get pretty bad lag in Beseiged and Dynamis. I haven't gotten to test it much to see if BRD song animations have been improved, though.Quick question for those technologically inclined.

They have for me. Nothing but solid performance increase in all departments.
I'll have to try both when I get off work.. I'm using XP and FPS drop down to like 15 anytime 10 or more people pop on screen.. 8800GTS too :[
I keep trying the xp version to see if they will increase anything, and everytime I install them I am greeted with a non functional black screen on reboot. (xp, 7950 gt)
The 169.17 drivers actually fixed a problem I was having where the screen would blank out for a few seconds after opening my laptop screen. It used to display, blank out, then redisplay, but now it displays right from the start. I think I'm happiest about that being fixed more than anything else.
Has anyone tested these drivers for compatibilty with UT3? I really don't want to update mine if they're going to give me problems with UT.
any word on the improvements with the 169.21 version, not really many comments on this yet :S

yes that really does explain... sod all? apart from one works on vista and one doesn't, that so answered the question. I'll test myself the difference, I was actually wanting the difference and if it was worth my time to download .21
I knew, no matter how big of a font I put...someone wasn't going to read it lol.
I see what you wrote izzy, not if only i could get passed the bluescreen of death with this update -_- Geforce Go 6150, never again! Non of the mods on the nvida forums will comment on the crash while trying to update this driver ether. Seems a lot of people who are using series 6 has their computer crash when trying to install.Originally Posted by Izzy
