I have no affiliation w/ any of these ls or w/e and am not much one for point system, but...

It looks to me like just another point system. Just that you can supplement your points w/ outside LS farming, IGE w/e (which opens up a whole other can of worms)

The more shit you kill w/ the LS, the more gil(points) you have would be the idea behind it I'd guess.

The members that show up and don't get drops get gil for their time spent. In return they can spend that gil to get the drops they do want. Or just pocket the gil.

It's a good way to get people to show up even if they don't need drops since they're making money and not just spending time "for the good of the ls"

Also, if the shell happens to fall apart tomorrow, everyone is even with time spent/gil spent/gil earned/items received. No one will feel like "I have so many points I never got to spend/get anything out of it"

I can see how it'd work. Attend enough events where you don't get a drop, and you'll have enough to get a drop. Sort of like a points system, but with the added benefit that you can craft/farm/IGE more "points", the detriment being that you have to spend your "points" on food, meds, chocobos, outposts, etcetera.
