FPS ISSUE?

I can't really tell if this is normal or not.

Specs

2.2ghz C2D Processor
8600GTS Geforce
2gig ddr2 800 ram

I'm gitting low FPS in things like limbus and stuff. Low as in 20 and choppy game play. Normal? I figured it'd be max FPS everywhere with that card and processor. Little insight please.

Turn off shadows and/or weather.

uh... that's with shadows off. doesn't make sense. My friend has nearly same setup cept with 8800 and he's ALWAYS 30 cept in dynamis with high shadows and then at normal he's 30 again.

honestly. welcome to FFXI, 20fps is nothing to complain about. Try decreasing the character models on screen. If you want better: reformat/overclock/make computer explode.

As for being lower fps then your friends: It's impossible to explain with a game like FFXI, in order for me to test I would have there in front of the two computers side by side in order to analyze whats different between the two.

It could be anything from:
Different Drivers
Different Chipsets
Different Programs Installed
Different Conflicts
Different Resources being utilized

recently I had a problem with the game where it was choppy every other second .. it was stuttering. Very annoying my fps would be like 29.9 then drop to 26.9 in mog house and then back up. doing nothing but standing there.

In the end I reinstalled the entire game and it fixed the problem. Not exactly the quickest solution but the game is running smoother then ever. I assume there was some corruption somewhere in the game engine.

i still can't git it to run at 25 FPS in namis it's like this

Half the LS is on side A other is on side B. Starring at either side yields 29 FPS but starring at both = 19. Also the new nvidia drivers are supposed to 'fix' ballad/firaga issues and i still have these. Thus making me believe that the drivers aren't working for my computer little help prz.

It's a long shot, but try using disk defragmenter (Start Menu > Programs > Accessories > Systems Tools). It can help with some odd issues sometimes. May not do anything, though. But, it can't hurt.
