Re: What do you wear on neck for Jin?

Again I have no hard data to backup my claims. But it 'seemed' the Breeze gorget really started giving me MORE consistent tp results back from Jin. To me Jin was always one of the most inconsistent weapon skills in the game. I hit several over 1k @ bird camp with 1 bard singing Min/Mad with a high of 1278 yesterday WS setup as follows. (no food)

    Senji/Perdu Bomblet
    Shura Kabuto Breeze Minuet Brutal
    Haub+1 nin tek+1 flame Rajas
Cerb Mantle Warwolf B. Haid Rutter's

I have both PCC and Gorget, but I pretty much use Gorget now. Like the previous poster, my high end Jins seem to be greater than before with Gorget vs. PCC.

Jin still seems to vary widely depending on mob fought, BRD/no BRD, etc... but my accuracy is pretty high in other slots, so PCC seems like overkill. I still use it in WS occasionally.

Anyhow I can appreciate the opinions on food, but I'd like to especially thank those of you who gave input to my question on neck peices.
I hold majority hate more than most NINs I know, and I generally burn less than 2 stacks an hour. I also go out to merit with about 60-62/70 inventory. That's enough food for 4-5 hours. After 4-5 hours of meriting, my brain is tofu.

I'm curious why you think eating kabobs is just for adding damage to WSs. It adds damage to every hit and WSs, and I've always found that the time it takes to keep popping new kabobs when they get stolen is more than paid back over the course of a party in extra damage (especially if you can do it between mobs).

I'll need to bust out the parser the next time I merit on lolibris, but I know I'm down a bit of Haste to keep my Acc solidly above the 80% mark, and I feel that the money and inventory space spent on kabobs is well worth it to ensure that my overall damage output is closer to normal conditions.

Moral of the story: No food is gimp. Period.

So you exp for 6 hours and don't cap out at 10 merits before then? Yeah, which neck piece to use during a ws is obviously your biggest problem...

Re: What do you wear on neck for Jin?

My TP set as NIN w/ 8/8 in Katana:
    http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/3...0470200fh3.jpg
Still no Haste belt, so I've got more Acc from Life Belt than I will whenever I actually get one of those. I had a Chiv. Chain and Gorget and used that combo for a while. Switched from Chiv. Chain to Specs, and saw the testing that indicated the Gorget might not give Acc on subsequent WS hits so I switched to Specs and my Jins seemed more consistent. And I finally saved up enough gil for PCC a little while back and use that fulltime now for TP and WS.

If I had a Hope Torque I'd probably just use that fulltime. But, sadly I don't, so I can't.

My experience on Greater Colibri as first Voke is that if I'm partying with half decent melees and I don't eat food (i.e. I ran out already) my Acc and damage are so piss poor that I rarely get Snatch Morseled anyway.

If I don't get Madrigal, my Acc sucks with Mithkabobs, and somebody else ends up tanking mostly. If I go with sushi (and I'm not using Sole Sushi on birds...more like Bream or Squid) with Madrigal it's overkill. If I go with Sushi w/o Madrigal then my Acc is fine and the birds gank my food quite a bit, but it's not that bad unless the other melees are all really craptastic. I'd make a neato chart, but I don't think I reinstalled MS Office.

Of course even w/ two uber melees, two Bards, and a RDM or COR I still hate those fucking birds and would much rather kill Mamools, Trolls, or just solo in the middle of nowhere on my BLM.

To the OP, if you're not eating any food as NIN you're just gimping yourself and your party, period. I'm not sure how you could be doing good damage that way.

P.S. Aurik, your sig confuses me.

Re: What do you wear on neck for Jin?

Eating food on Colibri as tank is just plain idiocy. Even cheapkabobs cost 20~40k gil per hour with all the snatchings and you don't get any more XP out of it unless you built your party around your own DD -- in which case why are you on Colibri? When on birds, you want all your DD to come from your other members -- thf's, drg, sam, rng all do great there. Piercing bonus is fantastic and sam's TP is nice everywhere.

A good colibri party without the NIN tank eating food will slay all the birds on the level and do about 30k/h. NIN tanks for a bit while others TP, then they WS and it dies. Rinse & repeat for chain 100+ or until someone else comes to the area and kills your XP there. More DD from the NIN won't give you more XP from an area where you're already killing everything there.

On a good party, I don't even have voke up again for every bird. Things are dying too fast. I have to get initial hate with ws or hojo. And, yep, I don't eat food. If you NEED to eat food on birds, it's because your other party members aren't strong enough to slay the birds fast enough. In that case, you're basically paying a ton of gil to support the wrong party for bad XP.

Yeah, it rankles not to be amazing DD at the same time you're also the best tank, but you need to learn to be efficient and adapt to the circumstances. So, just keep the thing busy while the others kill it. Your DD parse doesn't need to be on the top of the list on birds to maximize your XP rate there!

Besides, while Colibri XP is amazing if you get the area all to yourself, I've found that it's FAR better to go where others typically don't go and get a steady 20~23 XP/h than take the risk and run out to Colibri. Even if it's empty and you start out with the joyful 30k/h rate, someone else always comes along within 30m or so and ruins your session. Often, it's multiple groups, too -- utterly trashing your lovely 30k/h down to 10k/h. ><

How exactly are you tanking in a 30k/hour party without being geared 100% for DD and without using food? I smell bullshit.

@Evilpaul: Usually on Colibri pts I use 2 BRD/NIN, Healer(RDM or WHM is fine because these birds are so boring lol), 3 melee. I've had good results with 3 WAR (2 Ridill), 2 WAR+NIN, 2 WAR+THF. They just eat mithkabobs, Double Minuet from 1 BRD, Madrigal/March from the other. PTed with a COR+BRD once too, that was really good exp as well, and COR did some decent damage. Think for that pt we had Atk/Acc roll from COR and March/Minuet from BRD. Usually get 25k-ish/hr as long as melee aren't half asleep lol. Didn't have any acc problems with either of those setups, parsed everyone at like 85% acc or higher.

    Definite strong stink of bullshit.

Even if he is "tanking" in a 30k/hr party without 100% DD gearing or using food, it just means the other DDs are dragging his gimp ass along and he's lowering the XP/hr. They'd be doing even better without that ridiculous mindset, 100% DD gear, and some mithkabobs.

p.s. 20-40k/hr on mithkabobs? Yeah right. Even truly tanking (i.e. 90% of the hate) in a less stellar party and eating meat, I don't usually go through more than 4 stacks an hour, which is like 15-20k tops (and I don't stay much more than an hour if that's happening, heh).

Torque > PCC > I'm not very certain. I have and have used all of the options listed.

If you don't use food in EXP, Colibri or not, you're fucking gimp as hell. There is no trying to to reason with this.

So, you're paying 20k gil per hour for the same xp I'm getting without paying any gil? Try RNG, RNG, SAM, NIN, RDM, BRD. And, uh, where'd you ever get the idea I'm not in DD gear? Hit rate is 80~85% without food. It's not as nice as a 95% haste build, but it works. BTW, you *are* swapping all your enmity in for Voke & Warcry, aren't you?

The trick isn't the NIN eating food. Eating food won't stop it from flipping on a barrage or WS. Critter death is best for that. It's the puller having things to pull and being able to stack them up nicely for non-stop killing. You need a very good puller for this. After that just smart DD that spread the spikes out so you don't have some birds dying in 2s and others in 45s.

It pretty much requires that you get the entire level to yourself, too. If you don't own the level, you spend a lot of time just standing around waiting for things to spawn. Even with the level to ourselves, we get a couple respawn waits. It usually doesn't last long. Someone always comes and destroys the lovely XP by trying to share the level. If they're really gimpy, you can starve them out by killing all the birds. If they're semi-decent, they'll cut into your spawn too much and make the camp not worth it at all.

That's far more the norm than not -- so I really don't like the Colibri camp. It typically means 10k/h and a struggle to find things to kill. There are some nice mamool spots where no one goes and you can do 20k+/h in a good group -- 10~12k/h in a haphazard semi-competent pickup. I'd rather skip the frustration of squabbling over bird pulls.

If you're not in a good colibri group, you need to tank FAR longer and so your DD matters a lot more. In that case, yeah, food matters, but why would you want to use it!? You're spending more gil for less XP. Just bide your time and then spend your gil another time where it makes a real difference. I don't buy gil, so I don't have gil to burn. I only spend when it matters.

Mithkabobs are 3k a stack on my server, but I'll give you the benefit of 4k a stack on yours. Thats 5 stacks for 20k. If you're killing colibri as quick as you say, they'll only get off one WS. They also have 3 WS (pecking furry, feather tickle, and snatch food). Typically, a ninja will hold hate for about the first 15-20 seconds until a DD or more or less equal gear weapon skills on a mob. Thats also about the same time it takes for a colibri to WS.

Knowing this, you're trying to tell me you go through 5 stacks in an hour? I doubt it. Evening taking in account that you hold hate 100% of the time, even when you use Kurayami and Hojo at the start (which you dont but okay), you still wouldn't go through 5 stacks in an hour. Just lol@the rest of your reasoning.

Ya, I definitely call bullshit lol.
No way as a NIN you are holding hate long enough to get TPed if you are in a 30k/hr party.
If the exp is as good as you claim, then your melee will surely be pulling hate off of you quickly.

20k Gil per hour on mithkabobs in Colibri PT are you fucking kidding me? There is no way you are burning 5 stacks an hour or even close to that as NIN in a 30k/hr PT. You are either a liar or amazingly stupid.

Ah, the gilbuyer card. So predictable.

I've never spent a red cent on gil, and I never will. Doesn't mean I won't spend the money for Mithkabobs to be at 100% instead of 90-95%.

I echo the above comments, I've been in those 30k/hr parties, and no matter how good I may or may not be, I don't hold hate long enough to go through 5 stacks of kabobs an hour (in fact, like they said, food actually lasts longer because you see 1-2 WSs per mob at most, and since only a third are gonna be food snatches, spread out over 3-4 melees, those kabobs go a lot further).

p.s. A really good party there is killing Wivres while waiting for birds to repop, eating meat on those helps quite a bit to make sure you don't run into issues chaining them.

lol @ calling amas a gilbuyer , just check him! :D

If you aren't going to spend pocket change gil while you merit (aka if you're not going to put in your effort like the rest of us are), you will be booted from my party. Your only excuse for not spamming mithkabobs is "I ran out!" because we were exp'ing for a long time. If 20k isn't pocket change, learn to farm. Each spider web you sell = a stack of mithkas. Instead of watching moogle spin, kill spiders.

    I call BS on a 30k/hr party :
1st) With a ninja in it
2nd) With people not touching food at all
3rd) Dunno how people are missing it, but he's saying he TANKS, like.. serious tanking an exp mob instead of bouncing it around.

    Roofles Woofles.

On another note : People who spam food the second they get snatched, and still have hate, are silly possums. Best way to use mithkas wisely : If your food gets stolen, wait till the next pull to use another, don't use one right after morsel, that's just asking for more snatch.

There is no fucking way you use 80 kabobs an hour. I have merited with my ridillberk war full haste setup with 3 other gimp melee in a 2 brd pt keeping hate the whole time and the MOST I have ever lost was 35 food an hour. 80 an hour is just lol.
