    Why I <3 Jens Pulver

submitted Cub Swanson in 35 seconds. Swanson talked a lot of shit about lil evil but didnt bring anything to the cage. I can't wait until Jens fights for the WEC featherweight title. Though he gets a minus for playing WoW.

Also, Jason Rosenthal is the worst ref. Totally boned Chael Sonnen out of the belt against Paulo Filho, saying he verbally tapped which he did not.

PS: 17 days til MAtt Hughes beats GSPs ass. kthx.

Don't think we get VS in Canada, or at least not with my provider, too bad, I want to see those fights.

I think the UFC tells these guys to work up an animosity show for the camera. Grudge matches get higher ratings. It seems that Zuffa & Co. want to mix MMA with WWF or whatever the hell it is these days. Lots of flash, stupid drama, but with real fights. Personally the flash and drama can gtfo. I don't give a shit if they hate each other, and 15 minute intros are lame. Just get in the ring and fight.

P.S. GSP is going to stomp all over Hughes again.

That kind of drama is older than WWF. It's older than boxing. Grudges put the asses in the seats. It's not going away.

And I don't think the UFC has to bother to tell guys to work up some fake animosity. Fighters do that on their own. It's hard to smash an elbow into someone's face if you don't hate them, or at least fool yourself into hating them as you prepare for the fight.

they advertise the "drama" a lot more than it is and I hate the bs talking in the beginning of a match, but there is a lot of animosity and shit talking between fighters. For example Renato Sobral and the guy he choked and held on to for too long.

further note I think we will see Urijah Faber and Jens Pulver fight very soon.
P.S. GSP is going to stomp all over Hughes again.
Hughes beat him a lot worse in their first fight, and the second one lasted almsot to the 3rd round. I think hughes will win.

Sounds like Jens when he shit talked BJ and got the beat down.
he beat him the first time around why would he not think he could do it again? besides whether you like him or not Jens is a very good lightweight and an excellent featherweight. B.J. is an excellent lightweight but fought more fights @ welterweight so he was the bigger guy + his freak BJJ abilities.

Yeah, I know it won't go away, but there's other franchises that don't do that kinda crap. I think K1 is one of them.

As far as the animosity goes, from what I've seen a lot of these fighters are buddies and probably go out and get a drink after the fight (as long as they aren't banged up so bad they can't.) I think there's actually a low number of them who really do dislike one another. I believe the majority of it is artificial and encouraged by the UFC franchise. I've seen a number of pre-fight interviews where one or both of them are asked leading questions that open the door for smack talking, and the contenders half-heartedly reply to appease them. It's been pretty obvious they really don't hate the other person or even dislike them, but are being encouraged to work up the grudge match angle. Frankly it's really stupid and I wish they stop with the drama.

I don't know what fight you were watching in their first match, but GSP was winning until Hughes pulled the arm-bar... And as for their second fight, GSP made Hughes look like a bum they got off the street. No way Hughes beats GSP.

Re: Why I <3 Jens Pulver

The first fight was pretty even with GSP being a little ahead I think. Gsp was also subbed with about 1 second left in the round so you could say Hughes got a little lucky at that point. I think Hughes knows a ready GSP is better than him since he said one of the reasons he chose to take the fight with GSP is because he(GSP) would only have 1/3 the time to train for it.

I remember GSP winning and Hughes pulled out an arm bar from the bottom at the last second.

BJ's naturally a lightweight. He went up to Welterweight to test himself and probably a big reason why he gases so easily.

Re: Why I <3 Jens Pulver

As has been pointed out, GSP was easily beating Hughes in the first match up when he pulled off that arm bar. It happens quite often with hughes, he'll get his ass handed to him and either it's his skill or it's his opponents getting to over confident, but he finds that opening and gets it.

Re: Why I <3 Jens Pulver

jens is a freak at 145...10 lbs doesn't sound like a lot, but it can make a HUGE difference in a fighter who is borderline. with the competition in today's MMA, there's so many guys that are dropping down in weight classes to fight, you have to fight at the lowest weight class you can possibly squeeze your body into. i walk around at 185-190 and fight at 170 on small shows, 155 at big shows where i have 3 months to gear up for the fight. i'd stay lower and fight 155 all the time...but i really like food. >.>

btw, the ref that stepped in for the verbal submission did what almost any ref would do because of the scream + grimace on his face. most refs will step in that situation because of not wanting to see a limb snap on their watch.

pps: hughes via GNP round 2

edit: the "drama" that you're upset about happens in EVERY organization. you mentioned k1...they're probably the worst at it. you just don't see it as much because it's in japanese and you only get the edited shows here. they promoted bob sapp as "the beast" and had him eating bananas and tearing pictures up for months. even small shows in the u.s. do it...it puts asses in seats, and that'll never change. people love drama.

Re: Why I <3 Jens Pulver

The drama is meant to make those casual fans really excited. If they know that two people absolutely hate each other they believe it will automatically make for a good fight. More involved fans will tune in regardless but are much more interested in good match ups between two people that have never met than they are in a 1 sided beat down like Tito Ken.
