We did:
SMN
SMN
PLD/WAR
PLD/WAR
SAM
DRK
And it was relatively easy. Just keep the damage up on it full-time - he hits really slowly and weak, so obviously PLD/WAR will have no problem main-healing themselves. The only time it's dangerous is after spells go off, but with some quick curing it's not too bad. The only death we had was one of the PLDs (me) getting a very quick Thunder IV to the face before the mage could Erase MDEF Down, and it did like 1783 damage.![]()
He's really easy. Done it with thf, war, rdm, blm brd several times, sometimes with another redmage as well.
Thief (me) tanks king goldemar. Redmages debuff - blackmage watches stun. When a weapon is spawned, war vokes it, war + blm kill it. Also, the redmage gravs king goldemar, and I kite until the weapon is dead (he's slow as shit) Rinse and repeat until all pets are dead. We only put 1 melee on him at a time to avoid mass tp moves. Works extremely well and have yet to lose. I'm usually the only casualty, if a ga-3 lands on me and i've taken prior damage.
The King is nowhere near "easy" no matter what setup you take to him. Hydra is easy, Khimaira is easy.
Actually, Hydra is a joke >.>
With not one but two SMNs, why was there MDEF Down? I had our WHM come as SMN instead just for Dream Shroud; made life a lot easier (it blocks the MDEF Down portion of the move, in case that wasn't apparent).Originally Posted by Therin

(I'm sorry, I couldn't help it)
I just searched up this thread after having a lot of trouble for a few LS members that needed clear. We tried the THF tanking strategy above.
Party setup was THF/NIN SAM/THF BLM/WHM BLM/RDM BRD/WHM and WHM/SMN
We used Sirvente and Meditate + Trick Attack to keep hate firmly on the THF. It worked great. Once all weapons were dead, the SAM was able to melee at times, but would drop off when his HP got low because he knew we would always cure the THF first.
Thank you for this awesome strat! I'm like 2/11 using a PLD tank and 1/1 using a THF.
Evasion build works great for tanking King and Khim. NIN/war in eva gear evaded ~27% versus King. I bet THF did even better; I'm not at all surprised that THF does very well tanking King. Hydra and Cerbie seem to have very high accuracy -- evasion and ninja roll basically did nothing at all for those. ><
When I cleared this after a few unsuccessful tries, the setup was as follow:
PLD/NIN (who happened to have Aegis)
SAM/RNG
RNG/NIN
BLM/WHM
SMN/WHM
RDM/WHM
We pulled the boss in the starting room to have a little time to react when weapons got released.
The SMN kept Dream shroud up most of the time and Noct shield whenever he could.
We were damaging the boss with range attacks mostly, having the BLM stun everything he could stun, and whenever a weapon came, we killed it off quickly in the corridor with the melees + BLM and RDM assisting, while the PLD and SMN kept the boss in the room.
Everybody was drinking poison potions and melees had holy waters as well. This is very obvious, but attention should be paid to AoE range during the fight, our RNG ate a little more nukes than he should have and died near the end, as he was standing just within range.
Other than this, the fight went very smoothly and easily, it even seemed a little too slow and calm but we finished 10 minutes early, saved 2Hs. On one of my previous runs with a mopre standard setup, we had lost by time out when the boss had about 2% left... ><
The PLD (found by pickup) having Aegis helped quite a bit. I had asked the SAM to /RNG and focus on range attacks, but he commented at the end of the fight that he would've been more efficient on /NIN.
Previously I had tried with LS friends to kill the boss off as fast as possible before he summoned any weapons, with a DD-oriented setup and minimal healers. That didn't work out. We wiped after taking him down to 30% or so, he cursed us and AoE-ed us to death as mages were unable to keep up. I hear it's possible to do it this way, just stating my own experience on this one run.
To be honest, I'm not sure he would.I had asked the SAM to /RNG and focus on range attacks, but he commented at the end of the fight that he would've been more efficient on /NIN.
Most of the King's AoE junk (both TP moves and spells) either ignores or strips shadows, so they're really not that much help at all.
I guess they'd be semi-useful in tanking the weapons, but that should really be easy enough with just Seigan and Third Eye.
I know I found this fight a lot less stressful on my Ranger than I did on Samurai, simply because I could do damage without having to worry about what TP moves the King was doing at all.
I'm just not sure what sam/nin offers in this fight that makes it a viable alternative to sam/rng.
The shadows from the /nin would help against single target spells he launches on you (as third eye do not save from them). I did it that way with sam/nin as I had to tank the weapon at start, and in the end with the high intimidate rate it's really helpful to have /nin for shadows when you get the hate (which will probably happen if you use Meikyo Shisui), happened several time to me at least.
I wanted to add some more emphasis on how great this was. None of us had 2hours because we had burned them all on a PLD SAM BLM BLM BRD WHM attempt that timed out at 2%.Originally Posted by Gergall
The THF setup won without 2hrs and we had about 10 minutes to spare. Also, we had never even tried a THF tank on this and so we had no experience with it.
Amazing.
He seems to just spam Aga on us ><
Aga does 1200+ damage to all and pretty much ruins the run each time. Any advice.
Setup is
NIN/WAR
BRD/WHM
DRK/NIN
SAM/THF
WHM/BLM
BLM/RDM
My group is in the same boat. We've burned a week's worth of tags on this Assault now without a win, and it's getting fucking frustrating.
Ok still haven't won but got it figured out.
SMN owns this battle, dream shroud takes away any real danger from the NM. The biggest thing is to kill the weapons fast before he uses the intimidation TP move. In order to do so you can spam him with TP so he SMNs. We still lost at 20% but because all the weapons had not been SMNed and the wand agaed us right after the NM agaed. But otherwise it went very smooth and we'll win easy tonight.

Plus in our setup we've lost a few BPs to the occasional movement of King G.
We've tried the following setups that I can remember without success, although we've come close several times before wiping or timing out:
RDM / WHM / SMN / BLU / NIN / BRD
PLD / WHM / SMN / BLU / BLU / BRD
PLD / WHM / SMN / SMN / RNG / BRD
PLD / WHM / SMN / BLM / RNG / BRD
PLD / WHM / BLM / SMN / RNG / BRD
PLD / WHM / BLM / BLU / RNG / BRD
Our next plan for Thursday:
RDM / PLD / WHM / BLU / RNG / BRD (with the RDM as /DRK and BLU as /THF)
They players are listed in the same order everytime, but here's a list a who all has what:
P1 - RDM, PUP, PLD
P2 - WHM, PLD
P3 - BLM, WHM, SMN
P4 - BLU, BLM, DRG, SMN (Ark)
P5 - RNG, MNK, BLU, NIN, BLM
P5 - BRD, PUP (me)
If there is anything we are missing, let us know. We've tried kiting and straight-tanking KG, and think we've had more luck straight-tanking than anything else. We've tried to solo the Weapons with a BLM/RDM but they will run out of MP sooner or later. So we've taken to everyone but the PLD and a healer moving to deal with the weapons as fast as they can.
edit: forgot to finish last sentence in paragraph 1. Go Me!
Go RDM PLD (/nin) WHM RNG (/nin) MNK BRD, make sure to erase m.def down. Strategy was already posted by Vistani: fight the dude until he activates a weapon, then hold him while you deal with the weapon.Originally Posted by Jones

With the PLD as /NIN I'm assuming a straight tank. When a weapon is called down, should the PLD/NIN kite the King until the weapon is down? So far all of our attempts have been PLD/WAR, since the guy coming PLD doesn't use it often and his /NIN build is likely lacking.
