Re: Looking for a new good MMO

a friend got me the Lotr trial; and it was fun. At first... i was shooting around about level 18 going for that title you get for not dying at 20. Some one came up too me, asked for some help. Then got me killed. I then uninstalled and never touched it again. But the music thing was damn cool.

Aion looks to be amazing, hopefully a bit more fun than FFXI considering (from what videos I've seen) it seems to be a bit more than 18-on-1 type battles, but more like 3 on 5, amaaazing looking.

    also, flying PvP intrigues me.

Whoever mentioned Pirates of the Burning Sea should be shot in the face. That game is total fucking ass. Got a beta pass through Zam.com since I'm there all the time. Don't waste your time.

    Later.

I'm definitely going to try out Aion. I was more addicted to Lineage II than I was to shitty FFXI. If Aion is anything like Lineage II, which it looks like it will be, I'm gonna be PvPing to my heart's content.

As long as the PvP has a purpose, I'll play it. No pussy FFXI-type PvP. I want some drastic losses if you lose. Makes it WAY more fun and people tend to try harder, which means more interesting fights and people to play with throughout the game. An "adult" PvP I guess, where the kiddies rtfa back to WoW or FFXI or RO, and the mentally matured people stick around, young or not.

    MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM CONSEQUENCES.

That's the one thing that made Runescape at all worthwhile, kill someone in PvP and you can loot their corpse and take all their armour, weapons and inv.

http://ratemyserver.net/ has a listing of many private servers (and is great for the mob and item databases as well).

When companies say quarter aren't they talking fiscal years?

Indeed. 2nd fiscal quarter is Feb-Apr.

However, RELEASE dates' quarters are normal yearly quarters... Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, etc.

Re: Looking for a new good MMO

I took a break from FFXI and got into Lineage II for a good while. The castle sieges were beyond amazing, and not only looting corpses but being able to trail Adena hunting RMTs and steal their shit was fun too. The music was unbelievably good, and the fact that the world was one big zone was also pretty sweet.

NCSoft was interviewed about Aion a while ago, and some producers said that Aion wouldn't be a grindfest like most other Korean MMOs, that exp could be gotten as easily solo versus in party, or by quest. The quests in Lineage II were all extremely rewarding, so the quests in Aion I would assume will be worthwhile completing, unlike the majority of quests in FFXI.

Youtube it and check out some of the classes in Aion. The way Lineage II worked, which is how Aion most likely will, is off of a class tree. Whereas FFXI has a rigid job system, Lineage II allowed players to advance a specific job into specific branches. All in all your choices in the end for job combinations was quite vast.

Personally I plan on giving Age of Conan and Huxley both a shot while waiting for Aion to be released. I'd hold my breath for Cabal Online but things are looking doubtful for an NA release of that game.

P.S. Stay away from Maple Story. It's cuteness sucks you in but when you finally wake up and ask yourself wtf you've been doing playing that game for the past few months, your immediate reaction may be to vomit up all the anime you'd swallowed.

I don't know what quests you found to be rewarding in L2. Most of them are so worthless that they aren't worth doing. I think the only one I even bothered with on any of my alts was the lvl25 42k SP quest.

EDIT: Also lol @ calling FFXI's job system rigid, yet saying L2's offers lots of possibilities.

Re: Looking for a new good MMO

Only quest i realy wantet to do in L2 is the one for the kitty ears >.>; oh and the baby pets, but also just for looks... and i have yet to find a game whith a job system as good as FFXI's, saying you have a lot choice in L2 isnt realy true imo.
I did play Cabal EU for some time but after a while it just gets boring, the combo system and skill animations are realy nice but overall its just grinding grinding and grinding with the normal "get x items or kill y mobs" quests. The crafting is fun for a while but nothing compared to the systems other games offer.

I'm just waiting for Aion or privat FFXI servers and killing my time with some iddling in FF and playing free mmos (free to play or privat server) and reading a lot <.>

this is one that actually looks interesting but haven't played it at all so hard to tell
Korean beta only started oct 30th, and is still running. They leaked that the US beta may be in the "first few months of 08" with a "release date later in the year". I am anxiously awaiting this game, though I suspect it'll be a lot like ffxi, with prettier graphics, minus tarus (), with fewer jobs.
The game looks awesome & it has waaay cuter gurl characters with sexier looking gear. haha --my main reason for wanting to play.

Couple months back, they made it easier to go from 20-60.. less exp per level, as well as increasing quest exp. Not bad, since I was 50 at the time, and was fast tracked to outlands.

    Just tossing it out there.

For alternatives, well, just throw some dice.

Re: Looking for a new good MMO

LotRO is fun the first time through. Like someone else said though, end-game is virtually non-existent. There's very few dungeons for raid-level encounters. Monster play was pretty damn fun, and was the only saving grace that kept me playing as long as I did. (Monster play is a special zone set aside specifically for players fighting against players who are controlling monsters.) I played a Champion to level 50, got some of my epic gear and moves, and then rolled a Hunter which I took to level 47. By that time I got burned out, logged in to FFXI to say Hi to the linkshell, messed around a bit and remembered how much fun FFXI was. Been back in FFXI since then and cancelled my LotRO sub around 4 months ago, and that was after 3 months of not even touching the account. Made me glad I didn't get a lifetime membership.

Just for laughs I'll throw in that I played Vanguard. Horrible, horrible game. Had potential while in development, and then the team just fell flat on its face and shipped a steamer.
