I know it's fashionable for people in Boston to hate on Gagne, and rightfully so... the guy was horrible here. However, if you look at his numbers from Texas and then project what he could do being a) a real closer again, and b) in a god awful division like the NL Central, then he has a chance to be a good closer again. He was still striking out people in Boston, but he also pitched against some of the hardest to strikeout lineups in the game. When he's lobbing change ups at the Pirates, Astros, and Reds for 60 games a season, he'll look like the Gagne from LA, not the Gagne from BOS.Originally Posted by Heian

So not true. Everyone just believes that and uses it as justification for their own cheating. I happen to have watched 3/4ths of my team's games for years. Oh and we have only won the World Series once in the last 90 years so that kinda gives me the impression we either have horrible closet steroid users, or we actually don't use steroids. Unlike other teams, we don't tell people to keep it out of the dugouts or chat and talk about it at games. I honestly feel we have other teams in the majors in the same boat. If your manager is against it, and cares, you can fight it. Its the teams that don't care and encourage it that screw everyone else.Every Team Uses Steroids
....being sarcastic by the way so don't take it seriously....just comparing it to linkshell leaders that deny anyone bots

Funny how this mirrors the FFXIApps hack list Taj posted a while back.
Step A: List announced
Step B: Shock, amusement, bitterness
Step C: Flaming, moaning, whining
Step D: Cynical acceptance of the violation as a unavoidable progression in the state of said game
Step E: Said violation becomes standard of practice
Step F: Moot previous list, as it's violations are no longer violations by popular opinion
Step G: Moral corruptness prevails
Anyone watching the roger clemens press conference? This shit is riveting.
I was listening to it on the radio on the way home. That phone call was totally bizarre. I'm honestly a little burnt out on Clemens and would rather listen to Belichick's weekly radio interview, so I didn't stick around to hear what Clemens had to say after they played that phone call.Originally Posted by Tyche

I actually thought Clemens sounded pretty convincing... but then so did Rafael Palmeiro before...
lol did you here what he said about the lie detector test?Originally Posted by octopus
If you honestly didn't take steroids would you say "maybe" to the thought of proving your innocence with one?
He's guilty as hell and that phone call didn't really prove or disprove anything.
The only reason he's even bothering to do all this is because he knows its his only chance to sway public opinion in his favor. The plan is to use his millions of dollars and super elite legal team to crush some poor guy, who probably can't even afford a lawyer, by making him look bad. Honestly I think the whole thing is gonna blow up in his face when the facts come out, and by looking at various online polls seems most people think he's full of shit anyway.
I didn't hear about that question, and I admit I'm only half-listening to the press conference while I browse BG ;oOriginally Posted by Deejay

The "Never Happened" defense FTW.
I saw nothing in the interview that showed me a reason to believe in him. His answers were riddled with faulty logic and how-dare-anyone-question-me attitude.
LOL, i just finished listening to the phone conversation. It's obvious to me that Clemens is the one recording the conversation. McNamee sounds like a guy feeling guilty about being forced to rat out his friend to avoid jail. Never once in the conversation did he suggest that he ever lied about what he said.
Clemens on the other hand seems very calm, and seems to choose his words carefully (ya know, for the tape recorder.) Never once did he suggest that McNamee lied. You would think that if someone falsely accused you in such a big way that you would be a little less composed than Roger was. I know I would be a little heated to say the least.
McNamee repeatedly asked Clemens, "What do you want me to do?" and even offered to show up for his interview with 60 minutes if he wanted. I think it's safe to say that an innocent person would respond by saying, "You wanna know what you can do for me? Then fucking tell the media the truth that you lied about me and clear my name. And damn right I want you there at the interview." Instead Clemens just says, "I just want people** to tell the truth."
**Note that he never says he wants McNamee to tell the truth. Just says "people."
This phone conversation was just as frustrating as watching an episode of "Lost" where the most obvious things are left unsaid.
