Chairman is tearing through Roger's defense of not being at the party. His actions alone make him seem guilty and he has no good answer for the questioning. He hadn't seen his nanny in forever and now he wants to meet up with her? His lawyers seem like scrambling. The whole "I tried to invite her and talk to her... I was doing you guys a favor" is laughable.

And the way his lawyers scrambled like that, and then the way they were shot down was priceless. I figured they'd call Mac and Clemens in and then bury Clemens, but they are in fact burying them both. That's what makes this awesome TV.

Both of his attournies flipped out over them saying that they were putting words in Clemens mouth basically. Clemens claimed he was doing them a favor by inviting his former nanny to his house first and "tampering" with the witness and what not. It's getting heated.

The jayson stark blog on espn is also a good read for those who can't get the audio.

Since I'm listening on the radio, I didn't see Clemens' attourneys during the nanny stuff, but it sure sounded like Roger was being set up for tampering. This has been about 100x more fascinating than I thought it would be.

For the people making some Yankees vs. Red Sox statements... what relevance does that have? Eric Gagne and Brandon Donally were on the Sox last season when the won the Series. I'm sure there were players using stuff in '04. I'm sure there were Yankees using stuff (hi2u Giambino) before. Every team has been hit by it, so it's dumb to break it down to two teams.
I didn't break the steroids era down to two teams. I am simply using this as a case study of the consequences, and it will be unavoidable. I can only see the new wave of anti-Roger jerseys in Boston, even though he won't be a Yankee aver again, set on navy blue or pin stripes, like the "Jeter sucks A-Rod" shirts. There is more history with Clemens than both those guys in Boston.

He was the star of the Red Sox during the mid/late 80s and early 90s. He then leaves them because they couldn't pay him enough and the anti-Clemens sentiment began. Then, he joins the Yankees, despised by Red Sox fans, and wins Championships with them, beating the Sox in the process of doing so. Clemens cannot play in Fenway without getting booed, which will of course be worse if ever plays there again after all this drama.
He went to the Blue Jays after Boston.

Fraudger's last three years in Boston were mediocre (although he had an out of the blue 20 strike out performance on the second to last start as a Red Sox.) The GM infamously said that Fraudger was in the "twilight of his career." Most GMs in the league agreed. Fraudger was offended by this statement and decided not to resign with Boston at the end of the season. He couldn't get on with the top teams in the league so he went for the money with a mediocre team, the Blue Jays. This is when Fraudger "allegedly" started using steroids to stick it to Boston for dissing him.

It worked. He won Cy Young awards for the two years in Toronto. The Blue Jays were still mediocre despite Fraudger's resurgence so they traded him to the Yankees for David Wells. The rest you guys know.

    Reading a running diary on espn.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/...ional_hearings

I like this quote from McNamee

I told the investigators I injected three people -- two of whom I know confirmed my account. The third is sitting at this table.

Yeah I knew he went to Toronto first, should have explicitly stated it, but it wasn't relevant to my arguing why boston hates him, or i should say AS relevant as the fact he signed with the yanks later on and won some rings with them.

Well, this was a fun day. When Waxman owned that one old woman and told her "Everyone has their own time and yours is up" and then the black guy who's name escapes me.. talks for the second or third time, I lol'd.

Most real Sox fans (ie. watched pre-2003) dislike Clemens for giving up on the team for the last 3 years of his contract, but that's really neither here nor there.

I think Roger did a poor job of presenting himself today. He seemed to fall back on his resume when he didn't want to answer a question, he danced around a lot, and painted himself as the model of perfection. MacNamee (sp?), while not the most likable guy, gave straight-forward answers, and wasn't afraid to admit his faults. Combine that with the most damning thing: Pettite's deposition. It just all looks bad for Clemens, imo.

Yes there is that but they originally started hating him because he was washed up at Boston, didn't renew, and went to Toronto without ever saying "goodbye" or "thank you" to the fans. Then he goes on and has two of his best years ever. That's the original reason why Boston hates him. Going to the Evil Empire was icing on the cake and an expected move of baseball's devil incarnate.

I love how Clemens has no problem throwing his wife, his mom and his doctor under the bus. Stay classy, San Diego.

Clemens definately didnt look very good today, as you stated, but i find McNamee looking even worse. Yes, he was giving semi-straightforward answers, and i say semi because half the time he was stalling by asking them to repeat the question sometimes 3 times before answering. When he did answer, he was either acknowledging he has lied many, many times at different stages of this investigation or claiming that his memory was too hazy to remember finite details.

Both Clemens and McNamee are looking bad, but the burden is more so on McNamee and the prosecution to prove Clemens is guilty than it is Clemens to prove he isnt. Even if McNamee is showing potential concrete evidence he is really discrediting himself by admitting to lying over and over, which will of course impact the legitimacy of any evidence, including bloody steroid needles. He was a cop beforehand, afterall, which means he has had training in evidence processing and knows the ropes on how to fabricate it if he wanted to, though im not saying he did.

Either way, Clemens' actions during this whole process as made it so if he is found guilty he will at the very least be in the echelon of steroid douchebaggery that Bonds is in, perhaps even pass it.

I think he passes Bonds in terms of douchebaggery, because we haven't had to deal with Bonds coming out, meeting/greeting congressmen to plead his case and to the people as well that he's innocent. He stated he didn't do steroids and it's not tainted a few times, but that was it. We've heard from Clemens and his side hundreds of times it feels and it's just getting annoying.

Yes, makes me wonder what he was saying to those congressmen behind closes doors. He didn't know any of them personally im guessing and just walks in and says "Hi, im Roger Clemens, and I'm innocent. Nice to meet you" possibly followed by "So, will $500,000 do?"

Rofl. Well they said that they normally meet with witnesses just to discuss what would go on as it's not a witness/jury member sort of thing, so I don't think it's that bad. I do agree that I think Clemens was trying to use his star power to his advatange, and honestly, if i was in his position, I'd do it too.

Its one of the few things thats making me even remotely believe in his innocense. Roger Clemens is very aware and invested in his legacy. He is also not stupid, nor are his attornies. I can't see them allowing him to do what he did unless they really, really think they will win this case.

I don't know if it was picked up on the TV broadcast, but on the radio you could hear Clemens after the thing ended. I assume he was talking to Rusty Hardin, but you could hear him say "I need to go talk to him. I need to make sure *kind of muffled unintelligible* with him." Then, from what I've heard, he walked out side-by-side with the Republican head of the commitee. That's a little fishy considering that he was one of the people that Clemens met with prior to the hearing.

All of this is total bullshit anyway. There should be an investigation as to purgery with Clemens and I'm sure there will be. As far as them walking out together chummy and such, you could tell who was Pro-Clemens and who wasn't. The people targetting McNamee for the most part clearly supported Clemens as they didn't really even touch him. It's just the way of politics I guess.
