A scholarly proposal on proofreading the Arts books.

    Dear Square-Enix:

Please, make Scholars a touch less gimped when using Dark Arts and Light Arts.

Give them the appropriate skill bonuses as before, but do it by magic type. If it's White magic, let Light Arts enhance the appropriate spells and give a skill bonus regardless of the class of spell (Enfeebling, Enhancing, whatever.). If it's Black magic, Dark Arts.

That way, WHM/SCH and BLM/SCH don't feel like they're getting a bum rap from using their grimories.

Edit: While you're at it, put the elemental DoTs in from BLM for Scholar as 37- spells. Give them something to get in the mood for Helixes later.

Seconded. Why should you have to gimp Slow or Paralyze if you want to cast them with less MP/casting time, or conversely, if you want to cast them with the higher skill to ensure they land, why should you have to put up with the MP/casting time increases? 's dumb.

Nah, I fear eating children would fail to fix SCH. Even if it is wartime.

Make a white book and a black book so I dont have to select the icon each time I want to know which I have. Switching back and forth isn't fun when you don't know which you have so I just usually stay on one. >.>

I don't like using stuff like that.

The weather icons are there w/o that stuff, just missing the books.

This is wonderful, however it does jack for PS/XBox players. Fixes like that should be suggested to and implemented by S-E. The job is still being molded, anything useful we can get in now is that much less time till it's implemented (if ever).

I know when i saw Sch for the first time i thought they would implement a Calculator style play, based on variables and whatnot, but could very easily led to being overpowered :D

While the op is good idea, it wouldn't work unless they converted the skill to magic accuracy. It is a straight bonus to the skill itself.

Or you could just let Light Arts give a bonus to Enfeebling magic (a lesser one if you will) and Dark Arts a bonus to Enhancing magic (again, lesser like rank C+ if you want). Since White and Black magic cross territory on Enhancing/Enfeebling magic, I don't see why they couldn't.

Or they could just boost Enhancing and Enfeebling to the same levels as the other skills. I see no need to give different levels to them just because WHMs have less Enfeebling than BLMs, and BLMs have less Enhancing than WHMs.

WHM/SCH is fine atm imo. In any real situations you're going to have a RDM there as well who should be enfeebling. You get -10% MP cost for spells, cast time, and access to two fairly useful JAs. You also get access to aspir, and drain with a 250 base dark magic skill which is enough to land.

BLM/SCH definitely needs some fixing. The main problem is that SCH doesn't gain access to stoneskin or blink without the use of a subjob. Maybe they should add some type of potency to dark and light arts. Like +5% cure potency to light arts, and MAB+5 to dark arts.

I don't know what real situations you're talking about, but I usually only have a RDM in my party if I'm at a HNM camp. Unless HNMs are the only things that count as real nowadays.

I think that giving Dark Arts a MAB wouldn't make SCH that much better for BLMs. It really needs a defensive spell.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this but also paralyze, slow, and silence are considered light arts which prevents using manifestation to -ga these. This is disappointing since I was looking forward to getting revenge on some certain birds in Dynamis-Windurst. I agree though the light/dark arts should work with any magic for the skills they enhance.
