I'd kill for gambits in a merit party :/
I'd kill for gambits in a merit party :/
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but casting protect 123290487 times manualy just doesn't seem to enhance gameplay for me. SO GAMBITS IT IS
For me, I used gambits to layout the ground work for all my characters, but I still did all the important stuff I couldn't fit into 10 slots myself (mainly I played Vaan as tank so that helps).
Using it for protect and shell and haste and that sorta stuff is okay.. it's a problem though when you have to set phoenix downs and curagas etc. in there, it practically takes you out of the game and just plays it on full auto.
Oh and bubble is broken. >.>
You don't ever have to set a gambit for anything, don't blame the game for a problem you created yourself.Originally Posted by Exoduso
Seriously, if you think the game is boring with too many gambits... just take some out.
Why can't people think of these things normally? Jeez.
For just about the second half of the game, my characters did basically play themselves, and I was really only responsible for actual movement across the maps, or when things went horribly wrong.
However, and I know a lot of people complain about it, I was actually pretty entertained by the story and the characters, and was motivated to keep progressing forward. The only difference I really found between the FF12 system and previous turn-based ones was the amount of time combat would take, because any action by the computer was just going to be something I'd have done on my own anyway.
I'll be honest and say that one of the things that makes a final fantasy game to me are the signature graphics, they always raise the bar.
Another thing is the memorable characters, and I didn't even like 12's "main" character Vaan personally.
I think perhaps core fantasy is set in medieval times, but it's not impossible to mix that core fantasy with some futuristic sci-fi elements. I've always found the idea intriguing because it allows you to do so much more with storylines.
Final Fantasy X was a lot better than XII for me. XII I barely cared enough about the characters to finish.
I agree that a few of the characters were entirely unremarkable, however, Balthier is a badass.
Anyway, I think its the music in the Versus trailer that really set the mood for me, as it gave the entire video a very epic feeling.
Seriously what's your problem lol... you seem to be hostile towards me in every single thread.Originally Posted by Charismatic
Yes, I created it myself. But it's only because the game is designed so I have to set it up or the upcoming boss would destroy me... that is unless I overleveled.
FF12 had a good idea with the gambits, it went a little overboard though.
That's MY opinion, and no one said you had to agree with it.
And yes, Balthier is the only memorable character from 12. Him and Cid... oh oh and Venat!(I didn't like Vayne... wasn't as convincing as Kefka/Kuja/Seymour as a bad dude)
I'm not hostile toward you, it's the things you say.
I don't usually look at a poster's name when I read their post (unless it's someone like rydiu...).
Those kind of things don't really matter much to me, but when people's main problem about a game is a problem they caused... I just don't feel they should be complaining about it.
Also, you don't have to be overleveled to beat any boss in FFXII, look up the 122333 challenge.

That's pretty cool, but that's still my opinion and I never said you had to agree with me.Originally Posted by Charismatic
I could try playing the game again by doing this challenge or that challenge, but the point remains that the gambit system was too broken and not THAT fun, and as a result it turned a lot of people off.
I was never inclined to play a 2nd playthrough of FFXII, and that's the first FF i've had that issue with since I still replay FF8 and 9 from time to time.
Agreed. It gave me the feeling that while XIII will be awesome in its own right, Versus XIII will be badass.Originally Posted by Xavier
Oh and that 122333 vid is pretty cool too.
I haven't paid much attention to XIII news since they announced it was going to be involved with multiple sequels on release, especially after that abortion of the perfectly good X that X-2 caused.
Who's leading the versus project anyway? The trailer seemed like it was dripping with typical Tetsuya "I masturbate furiously to Gackt while adding belts to fucking EVERYTHING" Normura style over substance flair. Much more interested in XIII proper apart from versus now, especially with the music from the trailer.
Nomura is incharge of both XIII and Versus projects.Originally Posted by Spoony Bob
And X-2 was a good game. Annoying story progression (and lame ending, but awesome final boss >.>) but still, I loved the battle system.
That's an argument as old as X-2 is itself but... Hopefully we don't get to the point where we start to consider every RPG with just a good battle system a good GAME. There are a few other factors that usually end up making an RPG worth playing, and I stand by my opinion that X-2 is about 75% garbage.
Anyway, as much as I enjoyed kingdom hearts, it's a little depressing to see a style like that spill over to nomura's other projects so easily.
Get over the fact it has zippers? Who cares, if Versus will play anything like KH2 or similar it will be an amazing game. Now if they would only show us some gd gameplay vids.. >.>Originally Posted by Spoony Bob
some people are too caught up in the whole Beltanzipper Co. thing that they forget that the whole game isn't about character design.
I don't really give a shit what a character wears or what hair products he chooses to use, but I'm in the minority there.
I wasn't talking about the choice of clothing in this case, merely the content of the trailer. All it is, is some brooding mysterious character teleporting around and killing people. That was pretty cool back when I watched Dragon Ball Z in grade school but I got my fill of acrobatics for acrobatics' sake in kingdom hearts 2 (push triangle to WIN!). I just don't see what's so special about the versus trailer, especially over the actual XIII proper clip.
Cause it was semi-impossible to do in active mode maybe? I personally couldn't spend the time switching between all those menus in boss battles to keep my party healed, the party to continue beating on the boss, and throwing out a few off buffs, debuffs and the while the boss is hitting me pretty hard (Hell even now I have minimum gambits to make my team functional and it's still pretty automated, and I still end up to putting on wait for the more difficult bosses and not like I'm incapable of doing it all myself either, as stated before I duo/trio quite easily on FFXI of course though I have macros up my ass lol).Originally Posted by Charismatic
I'm not one to say that the gambit system was bad though, infact it's pretty interesting (well in a massive if/else statement kind of way XD) but the fact is Gambits play such a major component in making your team work out well that it becomes more and more automated as the difficultly in battles get harder and harder.
And yes Balthier is badass. Main reason I keep treking on whenever I feel the urge to play 12
For the trailers though, I'm not impressed yet till I get my hands on it to see for myself. I'm not one to hype a game based on SE's trailer making skills.
Nope.Cause it was semi-impossible to do in active mode maybe?
