Sure if I was lvl 65 I could do it. Which I wasn't. And I still beat him.

The main thing I dislike is going though tedious menu systems such as this, sure I could make it efficient but the time delay between going though menus is something that quirks me, I know what I want I just need to find it sort of deal, and I'm not one to memorize every configuration of my menu just to get there for my brain already has enough shit crammed into it.

In addition to that, he's soloing with Ashe, which makes things much more easier to deal with than a party of three.

You don't need to be Lv65 to beat him with few or no gambits.
Look at how easy that fight went for him he could have easily done it at a lower level... not to mention he was also SOLO.

Then keep in mind that you can still actually feel like you're playing a game if you setup full (or near-full, depending on preference) gambits for 2 characters and control your main fully or with minimal gambits.

Honestly, the whole gambit issue is just people not really knowing how to properly setup the gambits.
Or not even trying to in the case of some.

Point being, if you play in active mode (and I would like to think that everyone does play it in active mode eventually... wait mode is just stupid) you need the gambits.

Yes, if you practice enough and level high enough you can do whatever you want with 1 person... but at that point you already went through hours of standing next to a save point casting all the different spells over and over until you knew how many clicks it took to get to each of them by heart (it doesn't seem like the guy playing is having much trouble finding his spells, which means he knows where they all are.)

The good thing about gambits is that you can set them however you want to... BUT, the problem is that you have to make room for certain gambits or else you're just going to fail miserably (unless, again, you practiced long enough to get those spells out FAST in active mode..)

Anyways why is an FFXIII topic filled with FF12 bullshit? bring on the Lightningishawt talk.

Actually I have no gambits on my main char, and minimal gambits on my other 2 chars (I has 4 on one and 5 on the other), AND it still is very automated, of course I do things more important of throwing out specific spells and heals but the fact is it still is very automated with a party of three.

As I stated before it still feels automated even at bare minimums of team functionality.

Its relevant so far as discussing how the last installment played vs. how you'd want the new one to play, but since there aren't really any details on 13 gameplay, its hard to really compare the two.

Yeah heh... anyways i'm sure people liked FF12, but the people who have been playing the series since the SNES days don't all necessarily think it's one of the better installments..

I do actually, and while it doesn't seem to be a popular opinion on this board, most FF fans and critics do seem to find it one of the better ones in the series. But then again most of the people I've talked to liked the story which is again an unpopular opinion here.

Anyway I like the way XIII is turning out. The whole setting seems pretty cool to me and I would love it if the combat system went the action hybrid direction. Versus looks cool too but I'm a little less optimistic considering how most of the VII spinoffs turned out (not counting crisis core, which I haven't played).

Question to Exo and Zarath, did you two also find KH to be too automated? As you had almost no control over Donald or Goofy. I don't understand how you can say it's too automated if you only had two characters on gambit, and total control over one. Doing the latter is basicaly what you did in KH, except with more explosions.

    Re: New FFXIII Trailers

Well, The whole point in KH is that you don't need to use them though... you can't really play without the rest of your party members in FFXII (well you can like that challenge on youtube, but it's far more difficult to do it for someone who just wants to enjoy their game normally.)

And the problem is that you have to set gambits to your main char too... you don't HAVE to, but you should. In KH you control everything Sora does.. >.>
And why are we comparing the battle systems again? they have nothing to do with each other.

I don't get it, do you have to try and force your love for FF12 onto me? I couldn't get into the game, I thought the gambits made the game play on auto, the story was terrible (excluding the last 2-3 dungeons), and that's it. It's my opinion, let me deal with it. Don't try to preach me as to why my thinking is wrong because it's not. I just disliked it.

Or if it bothers you so much to have people question your opinions, then how about not having any? I'll just go ahead and chuck this up to preferences, something you could have said, instead of calling the whambulance. Is the face on the avatar the exact same one you made when i questioned your opinion?

FYI: I'd hate to see someone question your religious beliefs lol.

I've been playing since the SNES days and I enjoyed 12, so thats a rather broad statement.

KH didn't have auto attack

I don't mind FF12 as much as say Exo, but it does get boring after an hour or so of playing, and I'm sure a lot of people can agree to some extent to that.

In addition to the whole KH thing, I didn't like KH2 as much as I would have thought, though I did end up passing it.

Okay just to reiterate... I didn't HATE FF12... it was okay playing it once. I just can't see myself popping it back in and playing it over like I did with some other games.
I did enjoy 12, to an extent... it was fun buying different gear and different weapons and trying all the different combinations out... I enjoyed getting licenses and spells and gambits etc. and like I mentioned before, hunts were the best thing this game could've brought to the table that was new and fresh and it was done with immense success.

HOWEVER, I just wish the battle system wasn't so robotic and the player would have more control over the characters, that's all.

Play Final Mix's extra dungeon with all 13 rematches with the organization and you might feel differently. >.>

Yes but you imply that its specifically people who have played from the SNES period that have a tendency to dislike the game, which I'm calling a broad statement.

You'd just as well say some people disliked FF12.

Okay forget it... you're stressing over a misworded line.

FF will sell regardless of the contents of its game because it's FF.. however if they keep going down the same road the series will crash eventually (and they're starting to ruin the name already with bullshit games like Vincent may cry...)

Honestly I hope Lost Odyssey is as good as its hype (Blue Dragon had the same hype, mind you... so I really dunno anymore..) because it might actually make Square push more. Competition is always healthy.

FF12 received a 40/40 from Famitsu and sold around 1.8 million copies in its first week out in Japan.

Whatever creative path its on, it isn't about to crash and burn.

And there's no reason for it to because it's FF... they just need to do a better job is all.

Hell, I probably would've enjoyed FF12 a lot more if it wasn't for the boring story... I don't think I actually felt like I was playing a Final Fantasy until I got to the top floor in Pharos (outside of the same magic spells and airship names of course..) But by the time that part finally arrived (which deserves a lot of credit honestly, I thought the battles/cutscenes over there were tramendously well done) a little bit too late for me and I had already lost interest in the 30~ some hours it took to get there.
