Almighty Apkallu: Found, and then lost again.

I haven't heard anyone claim that AA drops that sword since the rumors first started going around a year ago. I was the first non-JP on Valefor with the Sanguine Sword, and it dropped from Assault for me, just like it did for the JP who had it before me, and everyone I know who's gotten it since got it from that Assault. Obviously, AA hasn't exactly been a frequent sight, so I won't say for 100% sure, but personally I doubt it drops the sword. Throwing someone off-track on a drop for some exclusive e-peen isn't a new thing in FFXI. POIDH, yadda, yadda, is my opinion anyway.

I changed my search settings later and got exactly what the OP listed. I put exact value and put in the value in backwards. This would mean it has popped right? I'll post SSs here in a min when I get on the boat.

Yes, that means it popped. Whether it depopped with 100% HP, I can't say, because although the HP certainly does show 100%, I've seen odd behavior with boat mobs. Sometimes, I'll kill a mob on the boat, and the HP goes back to 100% before it pops again. Other times, it'll show 0%. Once, I brought an Apkallu down to about 5% health and let the boat ride end. After docking, I warped back to take the boat again, it was shown in memory as 100%, but perhaps it regenned to full after the end of the ride. Then again, boat mobs can pop back to back to back, too, so they're a little different anyway.

Killed Proteus and immediately started camping AA. We've been camping AA for 5 hours now and no spawn. We're going to bed. We'll try this theory again when we have more time to test it.

lurked awhile *yes read entire thread*, i know rose garden was mentioned but has anyone thought of the even more elusive noble mold as a similar pop condition *seasonal + 21hr*, considering all the recent sighting happened in a very close time frame and now AA dropped off the grid again sounds plausible, maybe a mating season or something

I wouldn't discount this idea.... I've camped Noble Mold a bunch and found him very annoying. But the pop conditions are pretty much nailed down.

I'd try to compile the moon/day/month/weather when we see him as well (if the bugger LETS us see him >.<). Maybe this whole "mating season" thing could pan out...

The Noble Mold is another interesting theory. I'm keeping tabs on the Month, Day and Year in our log. Hopefully keeping track of this information will help uncover his spawn conditions.

i too think this is interesting enough to test, noble mold was a goddamn mystery just like AA... but thanks to his name and the relationship between noble rot, it gave clues

On the Nashmau> Whitegate zone, when people check the memory to see what monsters have popped and depopped, the 2nd Apkallu (#8) has not popped. (i believe on any server at all).

When ToAU first came out wasn't there a period of time where there were no NM's implemented yet? Most of them came after in updates correct? If #7 has never popped is it possible that it was removed when AA was added? or would they have taken it out of the dats entirely?

The program you guys are using to tell if popped or not (artmon?). That just shows if it has been poppped since the server was last restarted correct? Not windows, not since you logged in, or anything like that.

In the instances where proteus was killed, did no apkallu show for the next several boat rides everytime? It is looking more and more likely that its pop is linked to another mob as countless hours of camping the 21-24 hour spawn condition has netted nothing, I was thinking in relation to the answers given about not being left by itself that Proteus might be a natural enemy to Apkallu.

Are they jumping on the ship to escape the kraken in the water? This is what I was eluding to in my first question.

Could it be on a Wyrm spawn timeframe of 3-8 days with or without a kill needed to spawn it? Could explain why most never see it and when it despawns it window is reset.

Also someone mentioned Xototl. Possibly the reference to needing alot of luck is the fact that it will only spawn in a 4 hour game window on the boat? Do the boats always run on the same time frame?

Remember that any way AA''s spawn condition is actually found we were never intended to have these 3rd party programs to help aid us. So with programs aside would we be able to decipher its spawn condition?

Just some ideas that I did not see mentioned.

Only problem is that Proteus isnt 21-24 hrs. I've seen him spawn 12 hrs after maintenance ended, and I've camped the 21-24 mark after despawn and he never showed. Not sure what his window is but it's definately not 21-24.

We have no actual proof on that, but all evidence points to that it doesn't.

By that logic, QQTH's can drop every 15,25,and 35 upgrade piece for all sets. No evidence or anything, I'm just sayin.

hmmmm... this might also lead me to ask if there's a kraken type mob on the whitegate>nash ferry that has never spawned. yes, it's a different zone, but it might give us some kind of inkling about the mysterious #7.

every pop so far that theres a screenshot of are on lightsday and darksday, if theres a SS of him popping on another day please correct me before i start a bad rumor. But I'm leaning towards lottery on weekends in game. This would explain why he only pops on some servers and nobody sees him. low % chance of spawning on weekend days, and if its lottery that would also explain why he pops without anyone doing anything to pop him. Anyway i'm gonna start camping boat on lightsday/darksday and see if I can confirm this idea.
