Maybe I'm being naive, but when has a mob or an item had anything to do with its real-life inspiration?
Or perhaps you have to have a woman or a gay man in your party to make him pop? :rocl:Originally Posted by Acturus

Ah, once again someone commenting without reading through the threads, oh well.Maybe I'm being naive, but when has a mob or an item had anything to do with its real-life inspiration?
And to answer your question; Argus's mythological references have to do with him being a creature with a thousand eyes, and there is something to do with a peacock in his mythology for one. Not sure about any monster's historical background relating to spawn conditions though. But if you look back and read my original post you'll see where i said that these are fun facts and are not meant to be applied to theories.
Well clearly we have to figure out if he's gay or straight first. Or possibly bi? :rocl: Or maybe he differs from server to server, at least Fairy and Unicorn should be easy to figure out.Originally Posted by ThistleChaser

Being that no monster that I, nor you, can think of in this game has any relation to its real life mythos, I question why people waste their time spouting off in these small offshoots. Rather than spending their time laughing about the inspiration for mobs, their time would be better spent actually testing out the legitamete theories presented in the thread.
But yeah, you certainly can accuse me of not reading the thread. Have fun with that.

ladies, please
Nono, I'm not trying to troll or flame. Was I being naive in the first place, or is the discussion of inspirations completely separate from the pop conditions of a mob?
until it's known how exactly AA pops, any and all theories should be spoken of. read the AV theory thread and see how some RL stuff is incorporated. not that it is true, but until there's a right answer, there aren't any wrong suggestions.
That's fair. I can work with that.

Noble Mold requires rainy weather during a specific portion of the vana year in order for it to pop. Granted, it's not the only pop requirement but it's evident that SE used the background or mythos as inspiration.
You guys are being silly; it's not that mobs don't have anything to do with their myths(that's just ridiculous, almost all related to myths are tied to their real-world inspiration in some way), it's that the pop's and spawns, as the previous poster said, usually have nothing to do with the myths.
Example of spawn not being connected:
Sigurd didn't wait 21-24 hours to kill Fafnir.
Example of mythos tie-in:
Fafnir drops Ridill, one of the treasures in his horde according to the myth. (source: FFWiki)
Just sayin'

knowing SE and how crazy some NMs are in this game, I agree with Svenghali that no theory should be completed discounted until this whole thing is nailed down.
if SE put half the thought they put into these NMs into some of their policies and game mechanics, we'd all be in a much happier place.

Yes and that has gotten us so far with AV also. Don't worry I already know you next post. I already know I'm a ass.Originally Posted by Svenghali

Where fun is: how can we make an NM as cute as an apkallu so evil and rare that the masses will make not one but two threads on how to spawn him!
Problem with this is we've already encountered Aht Urghan NMs that pop through conditions that SE has never used before in the Past. Lamia No. 19 and the NMs from Tootoroon's Treasure Hut fit this bill, so its completely possible that AA also has a unique condition unlike any other NM. It's making all of our heads hurtEdit: Make sure plausible ideas ie. other NM's have poped this way etc. Some of this shit makes my head hurt.![]()
