I'd like to somehow con my LS into helping me camp this soon, out of curiosity, how many people would we need to take down Proteus on the ride to Nashmau(I wanted to test out the whole killing opening AA's window dealy).

Thanks for the great info thread for those who've contributed, and their JP friends!

Proteus is no harder than Charybdis. I took him out with as little as 3 people... so long as you have a 75 pt consisting of a NIN, WHM, and a BRD that was all we had to take him down. Unless you are ODing on party members I'd think the same rule should be shared with Charybdis in that maybe you should only have the NIN melee to give it tp slower.

Which means I have basically ruled out AA being 21-24 hour pop and I paid attention throughut the whole 24 hours and it took a lot of coffee and I am very very tired.

Another thing is AA is probably not popped like the RoseGarden unless you need to not kill any Apkallu for MORE than 24 hours.

We're going to go to bed now and probably try the Proteus idea next =\
Not necessarily, thinking more over the first cryptic hint of SE's. What if AA couldn't pop certain days because it's window was when the ship was docked or something? It's not exactly likely I guess but something I figured I'd toss out there.

One more thing to add that I've noticed in all the screenshots is that it's always between 2-10a.m. game day. In one of the pictures it seems to be foggy in the background but in the others there is no decent angle of the horizon to see. Anyway who has camped Odqan knows that sometimes fog hits and you can't really see it. So another spawn condition or factor could be mornings and/or foggy weather. Once again if anyone can put an end to this idea with a screenshot please do so.

edit: looking back at the screenshots it definitely looks foggy in all of them except Andora's. But in that one it's still real early in the game day morning and fog is extremely difficult to see at that time anyway.

    2nd edit:

Ok this seems extremely likely to me and I think these might be the answers to SE's cryptic hints.

First off, nobody asked how do you pop Almighty Apkallu. What was asked is why has nobody seen this monster. SE answered by giving us the cryptic hints that have been spread all over forums. Also note they first stated that not many people ride the boat back from Nashmau.

#1 Luck plays a role in getting him to pop.
Possible answer: 21-24 hr pop in foggy weather. Possibly similar to Kreutzet/King Vinnegaroon where if the fog doesn't hit in the window then he will pop the very next window and/or foggy weather. (Both listed monsters always spawn next weather even if after the window. Fog also makes a degree of sense based on the Apkallu and Enki's background)

#2 He doesn't like being lonely and will wander off if noone is around to keep him company.
Possible answer: If someone is on the boat when he pops he will stay up for the entire trip and despawn at the end of the ride or sooner. This can explain why on some servers he is registered as despawning at 100%. Someone was AFK on the boat and didn't notice him up.

And to answer why he doesn't register as popped on others:

If nobody is on the boat and it's time to pop he probably just registers in the server as spawned for the purpose of resetting his window and doesn't actually pop. Both of these ideas can explain the second hint as well as SE stating that nobody sees him cause everyone warps back from Nashmau. And quite possibly if nobody is on the boat nothing spawns at all. There would really be no point in SE wasting space in the memory because if nobody is on the boat when it takes off there is no possible way of someone getting on that boat ride. SE reads forums and were well aware that people were using programs to check the memory before writing their statements.

Of course none of this is proven and there is no concrete evidence yet to prove or disprove any of this. Call it a hunch but I bet this is it. If you can disprove this in anyway please do so and we will start from scratch. But untill it's disproven this shouldn't be too hard to test. A good way to test the monsters not spawning if nobody is on board is to check the memory directly after maintenance on the 2nd boat ride after said maintenance. Monsters always spawn on the boat, I have never seen a ride where they didn't.

Nice idea but foggy weather isn't rare on the Nashmau > Whitegate ship... as a matter of fact it seems like it is foggy 90% of the time... it's rare to see some sun or a nice clear day. The day we camped we were there for almost 2 straight IRL days with the exception of only missing 6 hours though we covered the possibility that it may have spawned in the 6 hours we missed by waiting for the 21 hour mark of the earliest hour we missed and the 24 hour mark of the latest time we missed... even covered a few hours after that and still nothing and by looking back in the log we made of every boat ride there was deffinately fog on 90% of those rides and especially toward the end.

I don't believe this NM is a timed spawn unless it is 72 hours... otherwise I believe there is a certain condition that must be met in order to open his window to make him pop

That's probably for the continued reporting of the insta-boat between nashmau and whitegate. You know SE, they want to waste our time.

Sorry, but I don't see what's so interesting about the maintenance on this zone. It's not like they didn't do maintenance on the other boat zones, too. If it were just Silver Sea route to Al Zahbi, and no other boat zone, and it was just sitting there alone and out of place like Windurst Woods, I'd agree it would have been interesting.

Doesn't fog normally only last from 0:00-07:00, from my run-ins with weather based NMs most depop after its gone. The video shows it up unclaimed around 8:55. Obviously I know that it could be based on the same concept but follow different rules. Just figured I'd point that out.

most weather/time based mobs that i know of won't depop unless they're unclaimed w/o hate, so if he's standing around claimed, fighting, the time, day, fog, etc. doesn't prove anything beyond the approximate vana time and day that he popped.

Fog weather, at least in Missereaux Coast, is 2:00-10:00.

edit: and Odqan does depop as soon as the fog leaves or other weather hits.

Kinda out there but has anyone looked at the Hunts(Marks) from FFXII. I know not the same dev teams but they have alot of similarities and one of those Marks might have a similar spawn condition as AA.

The comment made about a female character being in pt was is a condition there.

Did anyone ever think that it's a 24+ hour - 3 day random spawn? Since it doesn't stay up long it could explain why no one sees. This is SE we're talking about. They won't make some stupid retardedly hard spawn conditions for a NM.
