Rolling Stones top 20 songs of 2007

Yeah, I don't understand how people can listen to that trash and actually feel musically satisfied from it.
The mainstream even as short as 10 years ago was pretty good compared to what its changed into nowadays. :(

Am I the only person in this thread who was alive 10 years ago? Mainstream music about 10 years ago was dominated by bands like N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Hanson, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears. Does anyone remember the thong song? Yeah, that shit happened almost 10 years ago now. Music was exactly the same then as it is now: some songs and performers are completely ridiculous, and some are really groundbreaking. Rolling Stone has always included little bits and pieces from the mainstream in addition to their other picks that have more substance. This is nothing new. Don't glorify the past just because you don't remember it well enough to remember the shitty stuff about it.

Some of the picks on the list I think are absolute garbage, but them some of them I really respect. I'm glad Feist got some recognition by RS, even if it was for the one song everyone's heard in that iPod commercial. Hopefully it'll pique some curiosity.

Maybe it's the fact that I haven't heard a rap album that I HAD to go out and buy in 5 or so years, but that list is shit. I can't stand any of the new rap artists (although I do like Jay-z), but t-pain, lil wayne, Akon, joc, soula (crank that in the top 25, LOL), horrible...at least Common is on the list. Other than that, I thought the Foo Fighters got robbed on The Pretender. Im sure this list wasn't fan voted.

2 of the rap songs on this top 10 are respectable. You don't know good rap if you haven't heard them.

What's the point of editorials such as magazines when all people want is fan voted things? I like reviews, not because of my own interests, but to get me into checking out things that are good that I wouldn't have bothered with.

Editorials are fine in certain contexts, lists not being one of my favorite. I prefer a lists to be voted on (not necessarily by fans) but by a group of individuals. It eliminates bias that plagues a lot of editorials.

90% of the end of year lists are basically just "Buy what we tell you," I wouldn't be surprised if they were paid by the record companies to put a song higher up on the list.

While Nas is quite possibly the greatest ever, to say he is the only one making good music right now is ridiculous and makes me wonder what your source for rap is.

I mean, a lot of rap these days is complete garbage, no question. Thats where I delineate the difference between rap and hop hop. Rap songs generally suck now outside of the occasional good song to dance to, where as hip hop has the substance of well written and original lyrics behind it. Nas is the greatest hip hop lyricist ever. The man is a poet.

Well, that was a waste of my time. Seeing a Spoon song at like 17 made me very happy, as did the inclusion of bands like The New Pornographers and Wilco. I haven't picked up a Rolling Stone since I was 14, guess I don't have much reason to now either.

Guys, if you read magazines to always agree with them, then what's the point?
