    Re: RDM and HQ staves

Apollo's doesn't do shit for a RDM, sell it asap.
(unless you have BRD or something)

With that said, I'd say Aquilo's Staff (You'll get the most benefit out of this staff since you are mainly leveling for solo)->Pluto's Staff->Terra's Staff->Auster's Staff
edit: Aquilo's Staff will help you with Blizzard nukes (most effective nuke for RDM), Bind, Paralyze.
Pluto's Staff is nice for sleeps because landing those really counts.
Terra's Staff is very good for a HNM RDM (Although nowadays I kinda got out of using Staff for enfeebles; prefer a potency setup now if I can get away with it), Auster's Staff is nice for Gravity and Silence. Gravity is pretty good to be able to land when you need it, but at least for soloing on RDM you don't really want to use Gravity that much, its kinda a backup in case you get a resist on bind or a bind that lasts like 2 seconds.

    Re: RDM and HQ staves

    @51 I'd definitely say Pluto's Staff.
Not many things you'll be exping on that you will need to silence at that level anyways.
Pretty sure Lesser Colibri are kinda hard to land gravity on as well, if not completely immune (been a while excuse me if I'm incorrect), Puk are immune to gravity so you won't need to be grav'ing those.
Definitely go with the Pluto's Staff first imo.

    Um... Light Staff??
No need to have HQ if you are RDM, hence why I asked if he had BRD.

    Re: RDM and HQ staves

I did Aquilo's -> Pluto's -> Auster's and I'm working on Terra's now, because I can recast Slow but landing Silence and Gravity can mean the difference between life and death in certain solo situations. Buying Terra's first would help out XP more, though.

    Re: RDM and HQ staves

I'm going to make this simple: You're going to want them all.

Especially if you're leveling to solo or tank. For XP, the most important HQ staff is Pluto's since not sleeping stuff effectively can land you dead quite easily. You'll also want it for solo later so that's one of the most important ones. Auster's is not so important until you reach 75 then it becomes critical. Same with Aquillo's. Nukes in general are not so important while leveling RDM but for solo/small man they are a VERY important source of damage so think about what you'll be doing @ 75 when prioritizing staves.

Since they are more of a luxury at 51 and essential at 75 I'll list how I use every HQ staff on 75 RDM.
    Apollo's: Dia, Cures
Pluto's: Sleep, Bio, Drain, Aspir and other dark magic spells.
Aquilo's: Paralyze, Bind, Blizzard nukes - I'd probably get this second after Pluto's
    Auster's: Gravity, Silence - I don't actually think I've ever cast an Aero III nuke @ 75
Neptune's: Stoneskin, Poison II: This is excellent for the RDM who likes to solo/low man - both of which make use of DoT damage. It's also what you would want to land poison II on a HNM.
Terra's: SLOW II - it's the best thing ever.
Vulcan's: Nuking. Many people will tell you that this is the most useless HQ staff for RDM and well it probably is but frankly I use it a lot for killing bombs so I would never get rid of it.
Jupiter's: Stun, Nuking - Will give you higher Stun accuracy as RDM/DRK. Thunder III is also likely your most potent nuke at 75 so you don't want to gimp it.

After you hit 75 RDM, there will be (sorry couldn't resist)

High resist rate for sure, but definitely not immune(same with other wind based enfeebles like def down). I was in an exp pt recently where the rdm wasn't really doing anything between haste/refresh/dia with a dnc healing, and they were spamming gravity(with an hq staff) for some god forsaken reason. Landed maybe like 15-25% of the time just eyeballing it. Definitely not really worth it to cast on colibri, but you could ES gravity once in a while if you have nothing better to do with it.

    /useless information :elmer:

    Sylph's list is pretty good.
I just disagree with RDM wanting an Apollo's Staff for reasons I said earlier.
Dia II with Light Staff is the same as Dia II with Apollo's Staff; same thing with Cure potency.

    Re: RDM and HQ staves

    1) Pluto's for Sleep, definitely.
    2) Auster's. As you said before, missing a crucial Silence or Gravity can mean the difference between life and death. If you have yet to fight Maat on this character, Aero 3 will also be your strongest nuke during the Shattering Stars fight, and you'll want minimal resists.
    3) Aquilo's. Please be smart, and have a Bind macro handy. Blizzard 3 tends to be an RDM's best nuke due to the elemental skill and INT you'll be getting from this staff as well.
    4) Terra's.

That leaves you with Vulcan's, Neptune's, Jupiter's and Apollo's. You can pretty much get these in any order you please, if at all.

    Re: RDM and HQ staves

    i have gone

Aquilo's (because BInd > Sleep for soloing) -> Pluto's for sleep, which helps on wyrms and in Meripo -> Terra's

after that it doesnt really matter, i dont use gravity or silence enough to warrent an auster's

    Re: RDM and HQ staves

Honestly, since I got all of mine within the same 2-3 weeks, I just saved up money each time til I had about 700k, and bought whichever was unusually cheap (i.e. if somebody was unloading a ton of them or whatnot and the price was low). That excludes jupiter, neptune, apollo, and vulcan's if you don't have BLM/BRD leveled; I would consider getting a jupiter if you're going to do solo stuff on RDM though, eventually.
