Ok so I'm going to California soon and I have FFXI on my laptop and was wondering since my desktop version is updated is it safe to transfer the updated version over to my laptop since it will take less time than SEs update sequence.

yes you can do this as long as you install the game from the discs onto your laptop first, then just copy everything over, ive done it before when i was having such bad connection trouble it was taking 3+ hours to download 10 files
It is possible, but I never recommend it with any software. A full clean install is always the best option.
I have the initial install done its just the update that pains me.
Well I got the transfer finished got to the FFXI play screen then clicked play and then it said "Unable to verify version information" I hit retry and it goes to the normal update x.x!
To cut down most of the files safely, just install normally, and then before logging into POL transfer ROM1, ROM2, ROM3, ROM4, ROM5, and User from the Final Fantasy XI folder onto the new computer. It won't catch everything, but it will catch most stuff.
I'm pretty sure it'll have to file check all 10'000 files. But you'll only have to download a few files. It's a good time saver.
Right, it's the patch.ver or something that tells you which files to check. Which you don't really want to mess with :X
You don't even need to install the game first. Just copy the Playonline and PlayonlineUS/EU/AU/JP entries from the registry and transfer them.
I do the described method after my yearly reinstall of my OS. I keep a backup of my FFXI folder on an external HDD after every patch, so if I have to reinstall or a friend wants to start, the latest version I played is there, but you have to check every last file the first time you log into the game. This also transfers your macros and map markers. All I do is run the core PlayOnline viewer and FFXI installers and then copy the updated folder over them. This has never resulted in an error for me.
The .dlls need to be registered to the computer and can be done so through a .bat file, there's a tutorial on how to do a 30 minute install on windower.net somewhere.Originally Posted by Kerberoz
Ah fudge, I looked for it and I can't seem to find it but I have the .bat file saved in my install folder along with the registries if you want it.
Basically all you do is copy the files to the appropriate location, double click registry file, double click .bat to register dll, then file check and you're done!
