Question:
I try not to read too much info on games that are 1,2,3+ years away due to just making myself angry that I can't play them, but are FF13 and FF versus (?) the same thing?
And if yes / no, do any trailers exist besides that one FF13 trailer that was out about 8+ months ago?
VIII is the best!
Versus and XIII are two different games. Versus is supposedly a KH style game set in the same world as XIII, while XIII is just the regular game.

Well, Square had treated us all well, I guess SE isnt doing such a bad job continuing that. Make sure everyone checked out the Gametrailer.com retrospectives over the FF franchise, it's really neat.
It is funny to think about how alot of us grew up with the FF series, as well as the Mario and Zelda series. I still remember playing and beating the original FF when I was 6.
I cant wait for the rest of the remakes to come out. Alot of people always bitch about the only thing SE does any more are remakes and ports.. but so what? Theyre great games and they deserve to see a new light ever 20 years or so. I really hope they remake the rest of the games as well. And hinthint, remake Chrono Trigger and Xenogears while youre at it..
Attention everyone who loved FF4: http://gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=8503
A Japan only cell phone sequel. Also spelled as: Fail
I also wouldn't get my hopes up to much for a DS FF6 remake juuust yet. They've 'announced' it, but they also 'announced' plans to remake FF7, 8, and 9 for the PS2 in 2002 and then renigged that when they realized, quite thankfully, that maybe that would be diluting the IP just a little to much. Which, considering how many times the first few games have been around says something I think. Edit: When I say this, I mean that they have to rebuild the game from scratch using the FF3 engine, and add new stuff. 6 was many times more expansive than 5 in terms of unique environments and effects, and if the current trend continues we're looking at 3+ years before that would ship. Meaning that there may be a new DS on the way/out by then. I'd bet on the formor, but thats not part of this. I'm just saying that an FF6 remake, while awesome, doesn't seem likely anytime soon given the resources involved and the recent availability of the GBA version.
On my SaGa note earlier: I would love you SE if you remade Final Fantasy Legend II & III. Those where seriously more kick ass than half the RPG's released (period) in the last 4 years. Remaking FFAdventure counts, yes, But only partially since you completely remade it by changing / adding half a new story. You know what you could do though? Remake Mystic quest (it had good music!) and give it a battle system that isn't "put the ball in the round hole, put the cube in the square hole".
Also, am I the only one who thinks that Square is holding out for Sony to give them some kind of hotel full of virgins to remake FF7 for the PS3? I know personally 3 people who'd buy the system for that game alone, myself not included; but have no intention of otherwise doing so until 400$ magically falls out of our asses. Hell, I bought a PSP just for FF:Tactics.

VI is the best hands down.
And as much as everyone else hates it, Crystal Chronicles gets my vote for one of the most fun too \:D/

For some reason when I saw this thread name, I just pictured Sage Sundi dressed up as Marylin Monroe singing "Happy Birthday Final Fantasy".
A couple friends and I used to order pizza, hook up our SPs, and play FF:CC on weekends because we all had it off. I always had to be the chalice holder because everyone else sucked at keeping upOriginally Posted by Mizango
Anyone know when the DS version is coming out?
Stay with the Japanese names or stay with the English.
JP -> NA
Frionel -> Firion
Leonhart -> Leon
NA -> JP
Bartz -> Butz
Butz has had like 4 different English names, but I stick with Butz cause seriously, its awesome.
My theory has always been that SE will remake FF7 when they get close to being bankrupt/etc. I do wonder if Sony has tried to bribe them in the past year when they saw how bad the PS3 sales were to make a 7 remake to get systems to sell.Originally Posted by Apelila

I would assume this means that some game mechanics will be similar since they are in the same universe, but no similarities story wise as they take place on different worlds (unless of course they have interplanetary travel in these games).According to developers of the game, the game is not a sequel nor a prequel to other Final Fantasy XIII entries, but a wholly independent story unfolding with different characters and visual designs. According to Square-Enix, each title takes place in the same universe, but are not directly related.
FFVII is the best and fuck the haters.![]()
Also I think I liked FFIX more than most. It seems like FF9 gets a lot of crap from people and I really can't understand whyIt's probably my second favorite.
Good, but EXTREMELY overrated. That or it's a combination of beating it 9 times, and playing Xenogears right afterwards (which kills FFVII anyway) that makes me have so much disdain.Originally Posted by Daimen-G
Man, Xenogears was epic. Now that you mention it, I need to break that out again some time soon.
Chrono Trigger, FFVI, Xenogears.
Those were better times for console RPGs
And yes Xenogears was epic, Xenosaga was such a letdown; but I might add I never finished the 2nd on, because the voice acting was so lame, and the game was just bleh to me. Is it worth it to finish?

Xenogears depends on the disc. Xenogears disc 1 is an awesome game. Xenogears disc 2 is a decent movie. Personally I think the story was far better, but there just wasn't that much gameplay towards the end, and it tended to drag on.
Back on topic, I agree that 7 was overrated to a degree. People treat it like it's the end-all to the series, but I also believe a lot of people's first major RPG was FF7, and we all tend to remember our first RPG as being better than it probably was.
FF6 was the best of the set. Although I've only played 1-9 + 11
