Rank Up Requirements

I was going to start a new thread for this, but this one already ahs a few documentations. I think it would be very helpful, especially for those of us who do not have the time to do multiple merits worth of campaign, to figure out exactly how much AN/XP each rank requires. The way Hanyoko did it is very organized and easy to read. Please include AN AND XP, because we don't yet know which is the real upgrader. It could even be both, added together, for all we know. I plan on starting this on my next medal, and documenting it for every following medal. If anyone has any secondary characters they feel like testing this on, finding the figures for the early rank could help us infer the figures for the higher medals.

Though from this I learned that for every rank <= 8k AN is required, with possibly the exception of the holyknight being <= 8.5k . I personally feel very strongly that the rank up requirement is based on AN.

The reason I think it might not be is because Ops seem to have a much smaller effect than battles on rank ups. Part of doing this experiment is to see if that is simply an arbitrary observation.

When you assist someone in a Campaign Op and dont have the OP activated you earn exp. If you do have the OP active you earn both exp and AN. Also with completion of the OP you are taking to the NPC who is doing a 'mock' evaluation.

Though all that aside, the system may be something completly hidden.

I'll know more here on the 25th or so as I've already got holyknight therefore i'm looking for a baseline to 'keep' the rank and all i've done so far is OPs on subjobs for exp.

I have some insight on whether Campaign Ops count. I was on travel for the month of December and while I had FFXI installed on a laptop, I didn't have macros and such. As such, I only did Crystal Fist I (W) (and maybe one Stock and Awe 1) when I was at a place that I had an internet connection. I did 12 (7 one day and 5 a week later) and was able to rank up from Bronze Ribbon $ to Brass Ribbon $$. I didn't perform a single Campaign battle til January. I know at least at that low rank you can rank up based on Campaign Ops alone.

Those 12 OPs should have earned me 1080 EXP and 5760 AN.

spam campaign battles

for my first 4 ranks (ribbons) i was earning 5-10k allied notes per rank from ops and battles. i did not once encounter an isssue of not being able to rank up after the 5 day waiting period. during my progression on tier2 i only did campaign battles and minimized my allied note earnings to 5k for the first two ranks and still had no issues.

I didn't try after 11 ops. I was just doing them because it was the only thing that I could in the time and setup I had. During my 12th op, someone in my LS celebrated their latest rank which prompted me to try ranking up. My hunch is this is solely based on AN, but I haven't exactly been all that immersed in Campaign yet.

I also remember after I got back to my home machine and macros I tried ranking up again before trying any Campaign battles and was rejected. I don't know how many ops I had done between my Brass Ribbon $$ and the rejected application.

Pretty sure it wasn't the "You need to do more" message, so I guess that, along with someone else posting 80k Exp didn't rank them up, shows that Wings are not implemented yet.

All that time making sure I ranked up quickly, for naught. Now to wait however long til they release more ranks. T.T

Just to add, in case wings factors your total performance, I've gotten a good 40 Merits in campaign alone, and would have about 200k An if I hadn't been cashing in on Cobra gear before the market got flooded, so.. yeah. Either it's a ridiculous requirement, or you just can't rank yet.

Does anyone have a mule already set up in WoTG that could test the exact number of ops needed to do the first rank up? If not, I can run my lvl 1 taru mule to town, but that may not be the easiest nor the safest thing. It would also take at least a week, if not more, to finish testing. Give me the cue and I'll do it if no one else can.

It took 5k (AN) worth of campaign battles to get to where I would retain my medal, after doing those OPs. It took another 4-5k (I got over 2k the last fight) to be able to rank up. I do not think OPS have any effect on your evaluation at all, since my friend just did the campaign battles with me, and ranked up when I did.

I made this thread to get some hard data on this.

I theorize(and by that I mean a friend suggested it to me) that the formula is x(roughly 1000) * # of days since last evaluation.

You forget that we have someone who ranked up completely on OPS. Ops may just play a smaller part in rank up calculations.

Ive got about 25k AN on campaign and Ops on holyknight and I still cant rank up so im thinkin this may be true. When you do check tho, you have to choose End The Evaluation: No - correct? So that you still keep all An earned towards new rank (when it is released)

Whoa - I got the same thing. Made 10k+ exp points and about 15k Allied Notes (mostly on Campaign Ops) - and I still got no rankup..;(
