I've been doing my normal amount of campaign battles and ops and I'm still stuck at Holyknight $$$$. However, I'm not getting the demotion message, only the neutral one. I'll hit up some battles tonight and try again I guess...
For the time being; Holyknight is the highest rank.
Ive got about 25k AN on campaign and Ops on holyknight and I still cant rank up so im thinkin this may be true. When you do check tho, you have to choose End The Evaluation: No - correct? So that you still keep all An earned towards new rank (when it is released)
I hope SE releases the update before our Holyknight ranks expire

I did 14 Campaign ops, roughly 400AN/op for 5600 AN
    >NPC Evaluates Me & Says I'll be demoted

Did 2,000 exp on LV50 SMN in Campaign, appx 500/campaign battle for around 800 AN
    >NPC Evaluates Me & Says I'll be demoted

    waited 3 days, did 3 different Ops, 400-500 AN/op, for 1200 AN
    >NPC Evalutes Me & Says I'll be demoted

Did 3,000 limit points on 75DRG in Campaign, angon'd a bunch a stuff, ws'd etc (dont know if that effects anything aside from my exp gained) over about 3 total campaign battles.
    >NPC Evaluates Me & Says Congratulations on Promotion.

These NPCs are so bipolar @.@

Already renewed my medal twice, it's still pretty safe to do so I think, because SE hasn't started with the teasers for the next update yet. Which means there's probably at least two weeks until an update. I just don't want to get el shafto by being forced to renew my medal right before an update and having to wait a few days after the update to rank up.

My comment was more to prove that perhaps rankup/keep current rank were not purely based AN as several others and myself were thinking. I've got another batch here soon to spam so I'll get more info about this

Easy solution: Hold off on renewing as long as possible until the first teaser is revealed. If you hit day 29 and still no teaser, renew and repeat. It's safe to assume that from the date of the first teaser the update will be less than 30 days away, and the date will most-likely be announced at least 5 days prior to the update. Use some time management skills and it's no problem.

Pretty sure you need around 1000exp per day to keep a medal(probably higher than that, but shouldn't be too far off).

I am going to test this theory. I am holding off on doing anything for ten days having golden star. Then I will do a merits worth of CB. My friend is doing 1k a day (we obtained golden star at the same time), and once evaluation is ready, we will see if she is still up for a demotion.

I have a thread testing this very same theory, feel free to post results there(daily even, for your friend). What I plan to do is hit the Rank up option, then wait for it to decrease, then slowly get back to it with 150/75(buffing self) Campaigns to try and find the exact amount. Maybe I'll even throw in a few ops if things get consistent.

    Re: Rank Up Requirements

I tried the buffing out self earlier.. maybe I'm doing it wrong but I got 0 limit/notes from doing it.
Towards the last 3 minutes of a campaign, I ended my tag early and here's what it did:

    [00:48]Obtains 1245/624
[00:49]You are now participating in campaign
    [00:49 -> 00:50] Protect,Shell,Regen,Barfira,Aquaveil,Stoneskin,Bli nk
    [00:50] End tag - 0 points

    What gives?

I've noticed this as well. Seems like you need a certain level of campaign participation (XP or AN?) just to maintain your rank. This fits in with the fact that you can be demoted as well as promoted. But it seems likely that the amount of maintenance XP/AN required depends on current rank or rank category (ribbons, stars, emblems...) instead of being a fixed amount.

The rank up formula might be something like:

    XP/AN Required = X + Y/day * Days since evaluation.

Where both X and Y can depend on your current rank.

In trying to go from Copper Emblem to whatever is next, I campaigned enough to no longer get the demotion message, but then have been sitting in that middle ground, treading water for the last 5 or 6 days. I don't get on every day, but estimate I've averaged about 1k XP, 0.5K AN per day over that period without getting promoted. I didn't record any data, so it's just based on my memory. I never had any trouble on previous ranks, doing similar amounts of Campaign. So either the "gap" between demotion and promotion (where you're no longer getting the demotion message but are not yet promoted) is significantly larger for Emblems or else the theorized maintenance requirement is significantly larger than for previous ranks.

Looks like BRP's research will nail down the size of this "gap" and whether or not it is fixed or has a /day component.

    Re: Rank Up Requirements

Here at the results of the first portion of the test:
    viewtopic.php?f=53&t=29178&p=916778#p916778

7010 EXP / 3855 AN was able to rank me up from Golden Star to Copper Emblem on the first day.

A complete random theory based on nothing would be that Campaign is decided by exp earned(which explains the weak effect of Campaign Ops) and the amount needed after 5 days on this medal requires 7000 exp. I would love to see a test where someone ranks up into Golden Star. I have a feeling the "keep medal" status comes from after successfully completing the previous total. I admit I could be wrong because of that amount needed to rank up being a such a big jump.

It's also very possible that the total needed doesn't change between medals of the same type, making my test only meaningful when switching to a new medal type(at least in that regard).

It might have been just me, but in took me a lot more experience to get the Holyknight promotion than it did for the previous rank. Took me well over a merit point.

*From today's total(7010/3855), reached the "Promotion" status.
Compared with my 7555/5127 5 days later. Either only the AN ammount increase each day, or it does not increase daily (not likely since BRP lost promotion the next day), or it actually loses a portion of the points you have acumulated daily(likely since BRP tested being able to rank up the next day). This would mean OPs would be nearly inefective, unless they rewarded you substantially more then the daily rate of decay.

Example: If you decay at say 10% accumulated total (fits with BRPs test ammount), and you were doing stock and awe III for 290 a day. You would have 2777.066 points worth of xp from 30 days worth of OPs. If it is a set ammount of like 500/day, you would have 290 lol. Either way, based on the ammount BRP needed going from day 5 being able to promote to day 6 unable, it seems OPs are almost useless for rank ups unless you do like 7 in a day.
Now to add to my other topics post.

The one thing I noticed that messes this up is that BRP did some of his campaigning before day 5. This means he was losing some of that daily and he would have actually needed less on day 5 if he did it all at once, or you do not decay until day 5, or you do not decay at all, but the ammount you need increases, or you actually have a required XP and AN ammount that both decay or increase. So lets try to rule some of these out.

Now, if he was decaying prior to day 5, I should have needed more then the 7555 I had to rank up on day 10 (if there is only an xp requirement). So I am going to rule that out for now. This also applies to a general increase each day, I would have needed much more then 500 xp above BRPs total to rank up.

Next we go to not decaying until day 5, until someone does this rank with all campaigning prior day 5 and is able to rank up with the same xp/an numbers that BRP had, we will be unable to confirm or deny this. So lets move on for now.

That leaves us with an actual XP and AN ammount you need in order to rank up, and your points decay daily. If this is true, it would mean that the 7k xp BRP had obtained on day 5 was well above what he needed, and it was only the ANs that were just barely at the rank up mark. I say this because if you look at his ammounts and compare them with mine, we both ranked up with around 7kxp. But after seeing that there is some form of decay/increase, I should have needed a lot more then he did. If we go back and look, he proves there is a 500~decay/increase in xp/an for each day. So we go back to my numbers of 7555/5127. Take off 2500/2500 and we get 5000/2500. By these numbers, this general 500/day increase is wrong because he had more then this ammount and was unable to rank up.

So now lets try a 10% decay rate starting on day 1.
Data from BRPs test with 10% decay rate added in.
    viewtopic.php?f=53&t=29178

    day1) 1775/887
    day2) 4292/2482
    day3) 4863/2735
    day4) 4376/2461
    day5) 5344/3098 Promotion obtained.
    day6) 4809/2788 Lost promotion
    day6) 5078/2884 Regained promotion

Now, lets go back to examine my data from the same topic.
5860/3849 on day 10 only allowed me to retain my current rank. It took 7555/5127 in order to get promoted. So lets go back and add in a 500/day increase as well as the 10% decay to BRP. We get 5078+2500/2884+2500=7578/5384. This matches up nicely with my totals, and leads me to believe there is an increase/day and a rate of decay of about 10%/day starting on day 1.

This also may explain why OPs have virtually no effect, and some people have reported getting 7500/3500 done on day 1, and then unable to rank up on day 5 until doing an OP.7500/3500 would only be 4920/2296.Just doing one OP after for 200~/500~ would put them above the 5000/2500 mark.

    Re: Rank Up Requirements

There's definitely some penalty for delaying. I got up to Mythril Star with about ~5k exp of Campaign every 5 days, then I stopped playing for 20 days (Mythril Star has 10 days remaining on it). Yesterday I did about ~8k exp of Campaign and they want to demote me.

I'll continue to check with NPC to see how precisely I can measure my requirement.

I don't know if I can believe that doing it before day 5 and at day 5 makes much of a difference. I finished my testing(doing another), but too lazy to post, will do soon.

    Re: Rank Up Requirements

I plan to get about 20k xp/10-20k AN worth of campaign all on day 1 for copper emblem. I will then see what he says on day 5 (should be rank up). From there I will check daily until there is a change. Should lose option to rank up somewhere between day 7-10, depending on the base ammount needed for emblems.

I agree 100% with this. Last week, I was sitting on day 18 Steelknight emblem because I don't want to get my last rank until I know that the patch is coming. >.> However, I got to the point that the NPC would promote me if I accepted the honors. This was Tuesday.

Then yesterday, I decided that we are close enough to the patch that I'd go ahead and grab Holyknight. To my surprise, I talk to the NPC and he tells me that they are pleased with my work but I didn't do enough to merit a promotion. This was Sunday.

Anyway, this is in line with a lot of what other people are saying... but I'm pretty sure # of days since last evaluation/promotion plays into the rank up formula.

Different subject - So what is the consensus as to what will happen if the 30 days your Holyknight emblem expire before the next rank is available?

    Re: Rank Up Requirements

Ok, dunno if this is helpful to anyone but here's my Golden Star experience:

    - Obtained Mythril Star
    - Waited 20 days; on day 20 I earned 8k exp from Campaign. Assessment = demotion
    - On day 22, I earned ~2k. Assessment increased to neutral.
    - On day 22 later, I earned ~6k. Assessment increased to promotion (checked NPC after each battle).

So on day 22 of my Mythril Star, it took a total of ~16k exp to rank up.
I did no Ops in that time.

    Re: Rank Up Requirements

    Hypothesis:

    - The point quotia to rank up increases every real life day. (Possibly at the same time your Campaign Ops tag refreshes.)
    - Higher ranks see an increase in the amount the quotia increases daily. This could be compared to how Campaign Ops increase their EXP/AN rewards depending on the Tier you complete.
    - Campaign Ops (of the highest tier available) if completed daily, counteract the daily quotia increase.
    - Severs differentiate between the initial quotia and the daily increase. (Initial Quotia + Increases)
    - Evaluations are based on your Initial Rank Up Quotia progress only. If all you're doing is earning points in attempt to break even on your daily losses, you will always be demoted until you have enough points earned to counter the daily increases and still earn enough points to start going to your Rank Up Quotia.

Lets say the initial quotia to rank up is 1000. It increases by 50 every day. Your daily ops of the highest tier available grants 50 points. If you do Ops and no Campaign Battles for 29 days, you'll have earned 1450 points. However, your quotia will still be 1000 to rank up, as you've only counteracted your daily increases.

Getting an evaluation right now would demote you as the servers check your two point totals (Rank up Quotia + Daily Increases). It shows you done 1450 points, which meets the Daily Increase. However, this 1450 was not enough to dent the initial 1000 rank up quotia. Demotion. 0/1000 & 1450/1450

Now, lets say you did those same 29 Ops (1450 points) and 5 Campaign Battles (500 points). Giving you 1950 points total. You would reach your 1450 points from the daily increases and then put 500 points against your rank up quotia. An evaluation would allow you to keep your rank. 500/1000 & 1450/1450

Now, lets do those 29 Ops (1450) and 10 Campaign Battles (1000), giving you 2450 points. You will reach your daily increases and also meet your initial rank up requirement. Rank up. 1000/1000 & 1450/1450

This hypothesis would explain why people who don't log into the game for 20 days take so long to rank up. They "lost" 13 days worth of Ops Tags which would have been used to off set the daily increases.

Basically, the game gives you a 7 day grace period to not log in before rank ups become harder and harder. Losing an Ops would mean you have to make that up loss in Battle. Completing a lower tier Ops when you have access to higher tier Ops would also mean you arent fully counteracting the daily increase.

Additionally, this system would make EXP and AN earned through Battles and Ops equal in value. Failing a Tier III Ops would mean you now have to make up that EXP/AN in battle. Perhaps, failing an Ops would additionally penalize you by increasing the amount of points needed in the daily increase, or even create a third point total for the Servers to check (Initial + Daily + Failure Penalty)

This system does not clarify what is used for "points" for Rank up. Although, it suggests it to be AN.

    Example Evaluation:

Game: Hmmm, I see here you've failed 2 Ops. However, you've been active enough on the battlefield to prove yourself. In addition, you've been active enough to meet your daily requirements as a soldier. Finally, it appears you've gone above and beyond the expected duties of a soldier. Congratulations, you have earned yourself a new rank!

Server: Penalty Check (Pass) - Daily Check (Pass) - Rank Quotia Check (Pass) - Rank up!

    Example 2:

Server: Penalty Check (Pass) - Daily Check (Fail) - Rank Quotia Check (Fail) - Demotion

    Example 3:

Server: Penalty Check (Pass) - Daily Check (Pass) - Rank Quotia (Fail - <50%) - Demotion

    Example 4:

Server: Penalty Check (Pass) - Daily Check (Pass) - Rank Quotia (Fail - >50% <100%) - Maintain
