Hancock (Another Will Smith movie)

Ya I just thought it was okay. It was short (an hour and a half) and as said before they didn't really go into the back story at all. It was just enough for you to go "oh, okay" for a second and is meant to get you through the rest of the movie.

WALL-E was better.

I feel like if they had added just 30 minutes or even maybe 50 minutes to the movie they could have developed the characters farther and made it a much better movie. I definitely feel like Rottentomatoes score it has right now is deceivingly low.

That said it was still very entertaining.

Awesome movie; my only complaint was that the "twist" seemed rushed and poorly executed to me. I absolutely loved the first half though, didn't feel quite so contrived. It's all worth the money though. <3 Will Smith <3

Hell no the twist in this movie might have felt a little contrived and forced but it was 100x better than an M. Knight Shamalamadingdong movie.

Me too it was great how he threw shit around and used anything available to him.

I also really liked the AA/Group thing, he played that really well on how hard it is to talk about problems even though he really didn't say anything. if anyone is really in that situation then you might know what I'm talking about. When the final act started to play out i was like "WTF! you cant kill a super hero in a super hero movie!"

I would go see a second one if they chose to make him a bit more Dick-ish.

Sorry, but I wouldn't even give Hancock the time of day let alone go see it. It's a Will Smith movie, that's reason enough for me not to spend $9 on it, especially when there's far better out there right now.

I probably won't watch it in theatres, but I watched it earlier today on ninjavideo. Wasn't bad, but glad I didn't pay for a ticket.

I just saw this movie and I knew the RT rating going in. The user rating is like 68% so I decided to go with that instead of the critic rating. After seeing the movie, there is no way it deserves a 35%. This movie was great and hit all the right notes for me. My only complaint would be the same as you guys in that they could have taken more time to develop the back story or really delved into his personal demons. Would have made it a much richer movie. But it was definitely entertaining.

Sorry, but I wouldn't even give Hancock the time of day let alone go see it. It's a Will Smith movie, that's reason enough for me not to spend $9 on it, especially when there's far better out there right now.

For me, Will Smith is one of those actors whose movies I will almost always see. Tom Cruise, Kevin Spacey, Christian Bale, Bruce Willis and Johnny Depp are some of those actors in that category too. Whether it's in the theater or rental, I will usually check their movies out. And even if there's far better out there right now, I can afford more than one movie per summer.

Heh funny I think I walked out more entertained out of this than from Wall-E, though I like more Wall-E as a whole.

With that being said I'm still buying Wall-E in DVD (or BluRay if I ever get a PS3 again -,-).

Just got back from seeing it, it was a very entertaining movie and set out to do what it intended flawlessly. It was fresh and original in all regards and I really loved how they developed his character throughout the movie. The action scenes were especially original due to the creative ways in which he decided to solve problems.


Now, onto the intricacies within the movie itself...
It had a lot of interesting things going on that me and my friend discussed after leaving the theater. For one, the guy with the hook hand, during his first bank robbery he was wearing a mask and was awfully equipped and ready for a bank robbery. The mask serves no purpose, and seemed especially purposeful only for him when nobody else was even wearing a mask.

That being said, his identity is obviously that of the "they"s that the female super hero lady kept mentioning as she traced over Hancock's body pointing out various wounds. This leaves room for a sequel in which they can elaborate on the identity of those that wish to remove the gods by pairing them up and killing them.

Yet another testament to this theory that the hook guy was really planning to take out Hancock from the start is the fact that he knew he would be able to harm Hancock. Long before Hancock was shot (there is a scene where Hancock sees the prison break on TV just before being shot) the hook arm guy had left and begun preparing to attack Hancock.

Sorry, but I wouldn't even give Hancock the time of day let alone go see it. It's a Will Smith movie, that's reason enough for me not to spend $9 on it, especially when there's far better out there right now.

dont be dawgin, most of the times the roles he's in are in a cheesy movie, but most of the cheesy movies wouldn't sell if he wasn't in them. out of curiosity though, what exact will smith movies made you stop wanting to watch him altogether?

Story could have been developed a litttttttttttttle more, but it was still good, and the last 10 mins of the movie are awesome. Most of the humor is in the beginning of the movie, and about 2/3 of the way through that all ends and it goes srsmode. seriously though, last 10 mins, fucktastically awesome

Wow nice theory about the hook guy. I didn't even think of that. Then again I just finished watching it at 7:30 in the morning. I think I'll definitely go see it in theatres with a buddy of mine who's been wanting to see it for a while, I kept losing attention because I'm so tired lolz.

I hope there is a sequel or prequel though. I'm honestly not so sure which one I would enjoy more, but I was pleasantly surprised with how well Will Smith pulled off this character. He's another one of those "must see" actors for me, though, like someone else said.

i thought the twist was well done, i was wondering what was up with her attitude towards him from the first time they met and it was obvious they had history. i was waiting to see what their connection was and it wasnt rushed. the way they did it made me go "ohhh shit didnt see that coming"

but overall it could have been a lot better

I just saw this movie last night. I was good, but not amazing or anything.

It wasn't as funny as I expected. The trailers showed some quite amusing bits, but those were amoung the few funny bits in the movie. It seemed to become a lot more serious in the second half..

I saw Hancock on Wednesday. Overall, it was good. The twist, like some people have said, did seem somewhat contrived, but only because there wasn't much of an explanation, backstory, or origin story as to help filling in the details on the twist. I'm trying to be as spoiler-free as possible, but for a twist like that, I think the filmmakers owe it to the audience to do a little more 'splainin and not rely on us to accept it at face value.

Also, I have heard the movie had a lot cut out in order to get a PG-13 rating instead of an R. The editing might have factored in - I'm hoping the director Peter Berg goes nuts on the DVD with an extended Director's Cut.

The bottom line for me is that I was entertained.
