Worst Albums of 2007?

Honestly I think Year Zero was a bit stronger than With Teeth.. but both of those albums were one that I put on for a single listen through, then focused on two or three 'wow' tracks.

I was actually somewhat sad with Tori Amos' American Doll Posse -- for the same reason. I listen to maybe one or two songs off of it. Though she was balls-out amazing in concert, of course.

I'm still not sure how I feel about Puscifer. Its like Maynard decided to make a Nick Cave album.

honestly zeitgeist was not perfect by far, definitely no siamese dream but I wouldnt call it a worst album, you still listened to it, it still has good music on it. This is supposed to be worst albums not albums that didnt not meet your expectations, and I wouldnt call the new SP a worst, just a little disappointing. I have the korn album but didnt listen to it yet, foo fighters was kinda meh but not too terrible, I didnt even know limp bizkit was still together lol. The jay z album was ok but it I hear it was a little underwhelming in comparison

but my biggest disappointments would be NIN's YEAR ZERO & Radiohead's In Rainbows... both albums that had critics tripping over their boners over when they were completely steaming piles of crap.
must be once an artist gets their life completely sober , your health becomes great, but your music comes shit....

Year Zero was good IMO, could've been better....but then again I like the lyrical protests Trent has been doing on the past two albums.

Segue (watch for it..): With Teeth and Year Zero reminded me a bit of the dueling album thing that Radiohead had with Kid A and Amnesiac.

I can't agree at all with you about In Rainbows tho.. I think it's Radiohead's best album since OK Computer. Yeah I know that's saying a lot.

I get ragged on constantly by friends because I actually liked Limp's first CD, where they still incorporated metal into their songs. The rest of the cds where they just did this shitty rap/lame rock completely sucked.

My girlfriend & I watched VH1's Top 100 Songs of the 90's, and we reflected back that there pretty much hasn't been crap for music since that time period. I'd say, music died about 1998, with VERY few exceptions.

Outside of some good electronic music, like Infected Mushroom, and some smaller Indy stuff,ie Regina Spektor, Imogen Heap, I can't really think I've heard anything I enjoyed as much as I did back when I first heard music in my teenage years. I try to keep abreast of whatever is out there, but I'm really disappointed.

Not like the 90's tho really, it and the 60's are probably the best decades for "rock" music we'll ever see.


Looking at the 90's there's way too many to list but it all starts with the temple of the dog guys in the 80's, which brought about Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Pumpkins, Soul Asylum, Blind Melon, hell even Marylin Manson had some good music in the 90's.

Not to mention Outkast, Tupac, Biggie, Dre, old Jay-Z, old Bone thugs, Snoop, etc etc.


Plus there was that whole movement of "women's" music that was actually pretty damn good with Tori Amos, Liz Phair, Fiona, a couple Alanis songs, PJ Harvey, etc.


Basically if you go through and compare the best of the 90's to the best of the 00's.... there's just absolutely no comparison whatsoever. I mean just look at Amy Winhouse, she's basically a drunk white trash Macy Gray, and being treated like some kind of goddess of 1930's beats she didn't even make.

If you keep looking at the past and obsessing over your dusty albums.. then yeah, you wont be able to notice the good stuff that continues to come out. Like the above poster said before me, theres a lot of great stuff being made these days. I think it comes along with your mind and standards evolving with the times (dont read that as lowering standards).

I think youre assuming that I only listen to mainstream stuff or stuff being put on music channels and am basing my opinion on that which is so far from the truth. I thought the discussion was ALL music being made these days and not POP music being made these days. But I might be the confused one..

Well we had a thread on favorite albums of this year, and now there's a really sorry thread about Rolling Stone's "Top 100".. this seemed like the next logical step.

What albums do you think were completely worthless this year.. I'm talkin' like as worthless as Limp Bizkit's "The Unquestionable Truth Part 1" was a couple years ago. Albums that there was serious buzz about that turned out to be junk.

Here's one : Smashing Pumpkins "Zeitgeist". So disappointing... and I'm a huge fan of theirs from back in the 90s (first two CDs I bought with my own money were "Siamese Dream" and Pearl Jam's "Ten", just to give you an idea) so to hear a CD as crappy as this one was pissed me off.

Zeitgeist/ New Zwan Pumpkins were doomed from the start when Billy went without D'arcy & James Iha

I have to agree with Year Zero. I haven't really been in love with anything Trent Reznor has put out since the Fragile, to be honest. The live album was decent, but nothing impressive. The original material on Still was pretty good, but since the album was largely comprised of dressed-down versions of other songs, I wasn't exactly enraptured. I downloaded With Teeth to listen before I bought it, and after listening to the material, I decided not to even buy it. This is coming from someone who owns all the remix albums. A few people told me Year Zero was reminiscent of old school Nine Inch Nails, circa Broken. Imagine my surprise the first time I tried to listen to Year Zero all the way through. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever succeeded.

The recent crappiness of NIN's music dirctly correlates to TR's sobering up and kicking the drug habit. I'm sorry to say but the drugs seemed to be influencing his music back then.

I wont lie, the one song they overplay on the radio by hannah montana is really catchy and I like it
Im a slave to a good beat sometimes, which makes me gullible at times, but a friend has really turned me on to a lot of music I wouldnt normally listen to, so my horizons have been broadened considerably and I feel better about it

Soul Asylum has been around since 1983

Correct, but they didn't really break through until like 1992.
Soundgarden was around before Temple of the Dog also.
