    Re: Fav RPG Chars

Wasn't there some mumbo jumbo about how tendencies of the person the dress sphere was modeled from could carry over to the user? Think Shinra spoke about it some before the big concert, but it's been years. Overall, the ragging on the game kind of eludes me. No, it wasn't the best RPG ever, but it certainly wasn't the worst.
Yeah, it was kinda like stepping in someone elses shoes, the previous personality could rub off on you if i remember the story correctly.

    But yeah, horrible plot overall....

I think Materia and License Board are tied for my favorite unique systems, since most FFs use a learning system via JP/AP etc i wont consider those unique.

Without a doubt the 'Draw' system was my least favorite, i didnt hate FF8 but that was a major drawback in the sense i had to constantly keep on top of my magic supply...

How can license board be your favorite, but not sphere? They just reshaped the sphere into a big square.

I forgot all about the Sphere Grid for a sec, its the same thing so it'd go under my favorites as well. (Been playing FF12 lately, it jumps into my head fastest lol.)

Anything that isnt drawing magic and junctioning is A-OK @.@

Learning systems are fine, they are just staple now and nothing special.

I wouldnt have minded FF8 system if it was slightly different, but the way it is, it failled hard.
#1 Magic shouldnt be used. It should be a 0-100% thing that increase the spell level the more you draw, but never go down when you uses it
#2 Why is there a limit of 32 spells per person when there is ~50spells?
    #3 Bring armor back. >_>

    Re: Fav RPG Chars

Monsters scaling up with the player wasnt too bad, not worrying about armor wasnt bad either - it was just the stupid junction system that made me feel annoyed everytime i had to cast a spell because that meant you were lowering your stats if it was junctioned or meaning you had to refarm it...

Triple Triad was fun though, arguably better than Tetra Master.

I remember the breaking point of the junction system. Back when I first started playing it (9? years ago) I junctioned something stupid, like Curaga to my HP and for the life of me couldn't figure out why my max HP was going down everytime I cured myself.

I lol'd pretty hard when I figured it out though.

Hated triple triad because "combo, combo+, random, dont see card" rules were just gay. It was pure luck, and whoever was playing last could turn the whole board in one move.

Lack of armor/weapon was a big deal for me, because it means you will never find good loot on your way (chest, drop, vendor). It kinda kill any sense of reward you normally get in a rpg. Only progress left was level and weapon upgrade (but you wont do any probably unless you dont farm a lot)

Most you could do without farming is level 3. Until then materials just seem to come into your possession during the course of the game. Ultimate weapons needed to be farmed though.

And I agree that Triple Triad was gay.

Most weapon had ingredient like "steel pipe" that required some serious farming. If you didnt xp much on the world map on your way, you could only do 1-2 upgrade per character.

Well, I can't remember very much, but I do remember being able to upgrade my party's weapons to level 3 while not vering from the story at all...or farming for that matter. Everything just fell into my lap AFAIK.

Only time I remember farming is when I got ultimate weapons.

Wait, people used magic in FFVIII?
I remember just stocking up and using Draw=>Cast when I wanted to use a spell, almost everytime a spell was needed, the enemy you were fighting already had it.

One exception was meltdown, but I never did junction that.

Meltdown, Aura and "skip turn" is the only thing you ever need. Both metldown and aura were easy to get endgame with one of the craft, and meltdown was the best junction to get. Wasnt a big deal to use it once in a while on boss.

no lol, I used it to junction though..

But yeah meltdown and aura were the only decent ones for tough bosses, laziness, etc.

    Re: Fav RPG Chars

Well, the first playthrough had me using all sorts of magic, cause magic is supposed to be...useful. But when I learned how broken Aura was I basically didn't cast any other spell ever again.

Meltdown is cool until all your attacks hit for 9999 anyway, then I just junctioned it, like everything else.

I think in theory junctioning spells was a good idea, the things you could junction, like elemental resistance, status effects etc made things interesting. But the execution was terrible.

One thing I did like was the whole dungeon and build up to Ultima Weapon, that was really nicely done (let down a bit by an easy fight though).

Lol I thought the same. I'm always used to overleveling at the start of the game so I never really needed to heal unless it was hard boss fights.

As for Aura, through my second playthrough, I just kept Squall, Zell, and Quitis at low HP for easy fights. If any died, use a P. Down to revive. Rinse and repeat! Made the game too easy though.

Squall is my favorite RPG character. Chrono is up there too.

Say the guy who probably have a poster of Sephiroth in his room.

Squall was fine. Was funny with his constant cynical and sarcastic comment.

    Are you?

Squall was just an overthinker and analyzed everything but more predominantly the negatives.

    Rinoa Heartilly (VIII)
    Seifer (VIII)
    Yuna (X/X-2)
Jecht (X) - Simply because that was the only boss battle with decent music of any RPG ever made.
    Ashe B'nargin Dalmasca (XII)
    Basch fon Ronsenburg (XII)
    Balthier (XII)
    Vayne Solidor (XII)

    Xenogears -
    Elhaym Van Houten

    Id (Fei's destructiveness personality)

    Misc. -
    Silmeria (Valkyrie's Profile 2)

    Xenosaga -
    KOS-MOS
    Khaos

Off-topic: I didn't like FFIX, though Kuja was the only decent character in that game, it just didn't make up for an unimaginative storyline. FFVIII, FFX, and FFXII will always be my favorite Final Fantasy titles. But my favorite RPG are always going to be Xenogears, The Legend of Dragoon, Elder Scrolls III: Legend of Morrowind, Mass Effect, and Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time.
