For PLD/NIN tanking, which do you think is the better option?

Valor Surcoat = Gjallarhorn/Cover
Ares Cuirass = Any other time
shit is situational.
Hydra Haubert.
edit: valor surcoat <3
Well you can really never have too much MP, I don't see what difference a gjallarhorn makes. You could make a Cure IV HP macro and spam endless Cure IVs on yourself that Gjallarhorn couldn't even keep up with. I'm just wondering if there's a way to figure out which would produce more hate over time, 1/tick refresh or 4 enmity?
I like to disappear.
Well if you got the whole HP macro going on, I don't see why you are asking this question. More refresh will benefit you far greater than 4 enmity will if you are into the whole HP macro thing.
But again, you don't really need the macro after you hit CE cap at which time I would wear Valor Surcoat just so you could hit the cap faster after you take damage.
Another thing you can think about doing is macroing Valor Surcoat into Flash and Cures and have the macro revert to Ares Cuirass after the cast. But then again you'd probably never see your character if you did that, piss some mages off.
Obviously the correct answer is to keep switching between the two blinking in and out in an effort to prevent your mages from landing Cures on you, making the Refresh from Ares' body more worthwhile.
Ares' Cuirass.
I love it.
When a mob is initially claimed I wear my haute/turban and I plan on wearing my ares body too, the second we start in on it, around 90% or so I switch to macua and bahamut's mask, I imagine I'll be going from ares to valor body too.
That's what Panazawa what's his face do. During last KB, he was just blink in and out between valor and ares.Originally Posted by Jeryhn
I'll just make another note here. If your mages can't handle making macros for you because you're playing the game better than shitty people, get new mages.Originally Posted by Churchill

Just swap intelligently, and don't do it if you're dying.

Making macros to swap gear doesn't make you better, it just means that you can make macros to swap gear. Some places demand more macro swaps than others. The corollary of your statement is also true: If you die because you switch gear and your mages can't cure you, then you are playing the game worse.Originally Posted by Churchill
Shit is situational, adapt to the situation.
If you're in a LS long enough, and your mages don't switch around their cure V panic button, paralyna / etc macros with tank names (in our cases its all of what, 4? regular tanks) and you die to blinking chances are you're trying hard and they're lazy.
We have a few good whm who always keep names in macro, just edit them right before the pull of every fight, takes 30 seconds and it's made of win.
Don't you want to be made of win? Don't you?
