It wrecks. I always go on SAM to Nyzul, and the boss floors is where I really get to shine. Two paticular moments are the most memorable for myself:Originally Posted by Priphea
1. Khim, level 80 : I had just died on the previous floor from a Soulflayer (Hey, I didn't see him casting >_>), we had four minutes left, and the other melee we have with us (DRG/WHM, NIN and PLD) was having trouble getting it down fast enough. So, just to see if I can do anything, I get up, use my fanatics drink, hit hasso, zerk, warcry, then 2hr. After I burn three gekkos, I hit my dusty wing, do three more gekkos (2hr still up obviously). Finally, I hit my revitaliazer and do it all again (minus the dusty wing). This all took him down from about 90% to 6%... Right about the time my Fanatics wore off, and I was one shotted. We got an askar body.
2. Hydra level 100: 2hr, wing, revitalizer, dead. No phsyical shield. Dead. We won in about 30-35 seconds (Anyone doing WS on this can attest to how squishy he is). No drop, but we met our goal of beating him within the two minutes left.
Any samurai with a decent WS build can do this, it isn't that special. Samurai > * in Nyzul (well, at least for boss floors).
As with anything else, only if they know how to tank as /WAR.Originally Posted by ACEJester

I posted about it before, it had only happened once, and the consensus is that there was no correlation, but...
Last night was the 2nd time we've ever done Nyzul with the Astral Candy gone. It is also, coincidentally or not the 2nd time we've ever seen an all enemies floor that consisted of a Dahak + 11 mobs. Needless to say this floor killed the run, Dahak, 6 Black Puddings, 3 Mousse, and Energetic Eruca, took friggin' forever to clear. I still have no clue if the AC has anything to do with it, but we've never seen it any other time.
Any of you guys gotten this sort of floor, and can recall the AC status at the time?
Dahak+shitton more mobs than that, with candy there...2 weeks ago. No correlation, just bad luck :]
Thanks, we've never seen it outside of AC being down, so it seemed like a relatively logical conclusion.
Next question: Why is Hydra kicking our asses lol? We just started 60 and have gotten 3 straight Hydras, none of the other bosses, and I was under the assumption that he was one of the easier ones. He used physical shield right when we would use weaponskills, seems absolutely resistant to every single thing I threw at him other than Poison, no element of nuke did more than 30-40 damage(I think I did an Ele-Seal one for 250~), no enfeebling worked, and he was just an all-around pain in the ass. We won all 3(no drops of course), but it really was much harder than I thought it should be, I'm afraid of what he's like on 80 and 100.
Any tips?
if your entire group is wearing Goliard Trews, it gives Hydra 2x regen![]()
other than that, idk what exactly happened but hydra's phys shield is a time-based effect, unlike cere's magma hoplon. in other words, if hydra throws phys shield, gtfo, stop wasting TP and wait for it to drop. if cere uses magma, have a strong DD WS immediately and knock it off of him.
i'm pretty sure nuking bosses is gonna be a waste of mp as well, especially as rdm.
Haha, we got up to 1 Askar, 2 Denali, and 6 Goliard before we gave up on getting a 2nd Askar from 40.Originally Posted by wintersquall
I might change up my subs or something then, I was used to /BLM because it worked well on 20/40, I rarely have any problems w/ nuke resists, we always do a 3-step Light or Darkness and I would MB both skillchains for pretty good damage. I'll probably change to /WHM or /DRK for the higher bosses then...is Khim stunnable?
afaik, all moves CAN be stunned from the ToAU bosses - now whether or not you'd be able to get it off in time is a different story.
and tbh, khim falls so fast to us that i dont have the slightest idea. we've got a video wild took of our Khim 80 fight sunday on the new guildportal fraggle forums, link below. :D it's even funnier after the fight when red wastes all his drinks becuase he died too fast.

Hydra is immune to Stun entirely, RDM is almost entirely useless outside of a healing role there, but I'm more wondering if it's worth subbing /DRK for the other two.
And I'd laugh at Red, if it wasn't for me drinking a Mana Boost on 39 then zoning into White Magic Pathos on a boss a few weeks ago.![]()
Pray that you knock a head off? I swear when we take the left or right head off he doesn't do it and dies in less than a minute. We also have a drg that uses Skewer at 100% that usually takes one off.Originally Posted by Callisto
80 levels don't do their big tp moves so you can still /blm, I prefer /whm so you can help on paralyna on Cerb. Your nukes are going to do jack shit anyway.Originally Posted by wintersquall
And everything but Hydra can be stunned, but honestly if you got Nerve gas be happy it wasn't physical shield.
Quick question to everyone else on Fanatic's Drink: I know the label says physical dmg but I've just started to realize that I'm getting no effect from all mobs tp moves. Like Dreadstorm, Fullmination, Gates of Hades, and all that other crap I'm getting the message "No effect". Taking no dmg and I get no status things on me. Anyone have any ideas, cause I thought atleast some of these moves were magic based since the Aegis pld takes a lot less.
I think it's just an unintended perk, it does work for all TP moves even if they are technically magical damage'. Just be glad it does and milk it until it gets patched, lol.Originally Posted by Lukias
Oh I love it, I just thought the "No effect" thing was really weird instead of 0 dmg.Originally Posted by Lukias
My group has been using 2 Ridill WAR's and 1 SAM, me being one of the WAR's also have SAM75, been considering using SAM for boss floors since ppl keep talking so good about it. prolly gonna give that try.
Also we had such a terrible luck at FL20 drops. we have gone 2/25 or so now, but other floors have been way better, we have the other war and me both pld 75 hoping for some askar feet still :s, do all of you guys have TH4 on your runs?. Because we used to have one before but he quit the game now we have been rolling with w/e we can find as a 6th and still having same "ok" luck. been wondering how badly it would be to keep farming w/o TH4.
It will probably be pretty bad without TH, but even then you still get sucky drops, 0/3 on floor 60 last week, but we did get a 50% drop rate on all the floor 80s we did with TH4, was probably just an unlucky week for us. 2/25 sounds crazy though
we have a solid thief now, but back when we had to rotate in people i wouldn't even run a boss floor without a thief.
you MIGHT get lucky and still get a drop, but you're going to lose some that you would've gotten with a thief. there's no point in gimping yourself before you even start a run.
edit: re: TH4, no we only have TH3 (this particular thief h4x, i swear - in a good way) but he'll have his armlets soon, fairly new to our dynamis shell.
I think we might end up doing the same thing fairly soon - doing Nyzul seems like it might be good preparation for Salvage. Glad someone else has had a similar thought.Originally Posted by sleekmotorwurkz
Regarding drops, we always have TH, but not usually a THF. The droprate in the absence of any TH is utterly terrible, but I honestly haven't noticed a huge difference between TH1 from a sub, and TH3 - we get acceptable drops with either in the party.
Typically we'll use a SAM/THF, partly for the TH but also partly to staple hate to a MNK/NIN early in the fight since we've been going tankless a lot recently. Alternatively, we'll use a BLU/THF, and the SAM will go SAM/DNC.
If you're having issues with the ToAU bosses, make sure everyone takes a body boost and cleric's drink. Cleric's is AOE erase and very helpful, especially if you need to pop it on a specific enemies: soulflayer floor. You'll find with body boost and mana boost on the mages, your fights will go a LOT smoother. Khimaira in general's weak as hell. As long as melees have shadows, and people don't pull hate from behind for Plague Swipe, his TP moves are laughable. Hydra's not that bad either with a NIN tank and body boosts. As long as your melees don't go fucking ballistic and pull hate right at the start, you'll do fine. Physical Shield sucks, but again, /NIN helps on him as well.
Cerberus MIGHT give you problems, especially if he's spamming TP. His worst move is the AOE Paralyze, that's where Cleric's comes in handy. Unlike Hydra's Physical Shield, his is just a simple Stoneskin, so plow through it. Best advice I can give is, if your set up isn't working, try a NIN, 2 heavy melee, a THF, WHM and a refresher. I've stated before my group goes NIN, DRG x2, THF, WHM, COR and save a few bad runs we've never wiped on a boss or had issues. Melee burn seems like the way to go here. BLM works, but I can't really offer solid strategy or advice on that set up.
As for TH4, it helps. I said in another thread, sometimes stuff drops, and sometimes it doesn't. My group went 1/20 on Floor 80 from Christmas till 2 weeks ago after an amazing few Floor 80 runs. TH4 each time, just the bosses weren't dropping. Last sunday we went 3/4 on Floor 80, 2 Askar, 1 Goliard. Just keep at it, some days are better than others. Don't get discouraged is all I can say.
