    Silverhook WHM/NIN Solo Guide

This guide is intended for any WHM/NIN who get up the courage to solo Silverhook on WHM/NIN. Quite obviously you will need to have both Utsusemi: Ichi and Ni.

Silverhook is the NM that drops the Seawolf Cudgel. He pops in the Selbina->Mhaura Ferry during a pirate attack. I'm not going to into detail about pirates, that can be looked up in another place.

    Items needed for soloing:
    -2 yagudo drinks
    -1 icarus wing
-attack food (meat mithkabobs worked fine, I had no accuracy issues)
-a decent TP gain and WS setup (does not have to be top of the line)
-a stack of shihei (just to be on the safe side)

If you attempt this NM in "regular" WHM gear (like full MP or MND gear), chances are you will either run out of time, or he will kill you, so make sure you at least have a small (nothing spectacular) DD WHM setup!

This was my setup, it's nothing special, but it does the trick. By all means specifics do not matter for your gear, and it does not have to be the same, this is just small guideline as to what essential gear you need. In TP gain gear, try to find a smooth balance between haste and accuracy, which are both crucial to the fight. In the WS gear make sure you have enough to do decent damage weaponskills (Hexa Strikes should average 1000+ and Black Halo 800+). Don't forget to substitute gear for your race, I am a tarutaru so I need all the help I can get in the DD department!

    TP Gain:
    Brass Jadanga - Mainhand
    Sea Robber Cudgel - Offhand
    Hedgehog Bomb - Ammo
    Walahra Turban - Head
    Flame Gorget - Neck
    Loq. Earring - Earring
    Magnetic Earring - Earring
    Noble's Tunic - Body
    Blessed Mitts - Hands
    Woodsman Ring x2 - Rings
    Intensifying Cape - Back
    Swift Belt - Waist
    Blessed Trousers - Legs
    Rostrum Pumps - Feet

WS Gear (gear slots not listed stay the same):
    Optical Hat - Head
    Tabin Jupon - Body
    Healer's Mitts - Hands
    Ruby Ring x2 - Rings
    Life Belt - Waist
    Rainbow Cape - Back

    Prepartion:
A small amount of prep work is needed for this NM, and its just in the form of macros. Make sure you have the following macros, and ensure none of your macros have weapon or ammo changes, you don't want to lose your TP:

    -Dia II
    -Slow
-TP Gain Gear (may take two or more macros)
-WS Gear (may take two or more macros)
    -Hexa Strike
    -Black Halo
    -Paralyna
    -Blindna
    -Holy
    -Banish III
-Icarus Wing (/item "Icarus Wing" <me>)
    -Stoneskin
    -Utsusemi: Ichi
    -Utsusemi: Ni
    -Flash

Make sure you double check all of your macros before attempting the NM, a bad macro can kill you. Slow generally does not resist, therefore you don't need to complicate things by swapping in enfeebling gear.

    Strategy:
So your on your boat ride and /gasp! Pirates are due to pop. First thing you want to do is cast protectra/shellra and reraise III (just in case you kick the bucket) and rest to full, popping a yagudo drink before you rest is a good idea. Once your MP is full, pop a your attack food. Next you want to get utsusemi up and move into position. You want to be on the deck and on the right side of the boat (when facing the front, back to the captains room), this is the side the pirates will invade on.

At this point it will be approx 1-2 minutes until pirates attack so feel free to quickly build a little bit of TP on Too Weak mobs that are up on deck, although keep an eye out for the pirates ship. Once you first spot the pirates ship in the distance (it will first appear in the far background when facing towards the captains room), you have to work quick. Cast stoneskin, aquaveil, barblizzara and barparalyzra, and haste. Casting these spells last minute ensures their optimal use; the bar spells will save your life if you get paralyzed from ice spikes. At this point the pirate boat should be pulled up and you need to make sure the NM is due to pop, so check the middle "pirate" for his v.cloak, if he has one, Silverhook is due to spawn. If Silverhook does not spawn right away, kill the Ship Wight until Silverhook does pop, this is the PH. If all three of the "pirates" are wearing brown tunics, sorry, no NM this run.

Once Silverhook spawns, obviously claim it by whatever means, flash is a good spell to claim with if you have competition. Once you engage, immediately cast slow and dia II, chances are para will just waste your time and resist so don't bother with it. From this point on, you need to use your WHM/NIN skill to keep your shadows and stoneskin up, and it is relatively easy to do. He does double attack, so be conservative with shadows.

Now here comes the part that is fun! Once you have 100% TP (double check you're not paralyzed or blinded!), Banish III Silverhook, then tap your WS gear macro and then tap your Black Halo macro, immediately hit your icarus wing macro and then immediately after hit your Hexa Strike macro, the result should be an extremely damaging light skillchain. About 1-2 seconds after the SC fires, hit your holy macro to MB with and be shocked at how quick this guy is dying! Once SC+MB are done, hit your TP gain gear macro and keep firing away at this guy. I find that in the rush of things it is very hard, nearly impossible to get Banish III as a MB off in time with server lag, player lag, etc. This whole combo will take off about 50% of his HP and leave him easy to kill!

The rest of the fight you just keep up slow/dia II up, shadows/stoneskin/haste up, keep hexa striking him (black halo damage is {Too Weak}), and obviously keep yourself alive until he finally dies. Don't worry about the other pirates on board, they will do you no harm, even if you drop into low HP. As a side note, if you get in a rut (shadows/stoneskin down), try your best to get shadows/stoneskin back up, do know though that flash often times does not last long on this NM (1-2 seconds, a few more if you're lucky), and repose resists (I'm not sure if 100% resist, but it did not land for me when I was getting clobbered). Don't forget you have Benediction if you are about to die. If for whatever reason you notice MP getting low, pop another yagudo drink. If he does manage to get ice spikes off and it paralyzes you, paralyna yourself as fast as you can, or you'll be soon to die, make sure that you do not use any items or job abilities while you are paralyzed, or they most likely will get wasted!

If you successfully defeat Silverhook, congratulations! Good luck with getting the club!! If you die, don't get demotivated, just "dust yourself off and try again!" Also if you do die, I don't recommend reraising just because Silverhook probably will reaggro and one-shot you (low HP aggro!).

This strategy can also be used for the Blackbeard NM who drops the Sea Robber Cudgel, he is a lot easier though and he wont put up as big of a fight.

P.S. When I fought the NM I did Hexa > Wing > Halo > MB, only after realizing that to maximize damage, it should be the other way around.

Edit: Since seeing what other people have posted I went out and got Blessed Pumps and Taru Male RSE feet, thanks for all the great advice for this beginner winja!

    1.- Good guide

    2.- Is this a joke? O.o

3.- I would switch to some other cape after the MP / HP has been spent, -dmg reduction or prism for lolMND for lolhexa / banish.

Kind of weird you use on of the clubs that drop, would be better if you tried / mentioned other alternatives.

    P.S. meleeWHMs here we go --;

    P.S.S. Well written.

sorry if i am being an ass, but i have to ask the same question, as mentioned the back slot could be more productive, better earrings and body

you obviously put a good deal of though into this and have the right idea but theres quite a few improvements that could be made

I have both clubs (solo'd them on SMN) and quite frankly, I'm prolly gonna drop them both soon. Morg/prudence or perdu or KC is just light years better.

Good guide, but really no reason to get them anymore.

Kraken club for WHM? do explain.

P.S. I have always thought Hexa is out best WS, making KC useless/silly. (Obviously I havent done a lot of "serious" DD whm, which is the reason for the question)

    Re: Silverhook WHM/NIN Solo Guide

    Hedgehog Bomb - Ammo
    Walahra Turban - Head
    Flame Gorget - Neck
    Loq. Earring - Earring
    Magnetic Earring - Earring
    Noble's Tunic - Body
    Blessed Mitts - Hands
    Woodsman Ring x2 - Rings
    Intensifying Cape - Back
    Swift Belt - Waist
    Blessed Trousers - Legs
    Rostrum Pumps - Feet
My suggestions for meleeing WHMs, and my personal combos are mixed in here.

    TP:
    Morgenstern/Perdu Wand - Clubs
    Tiphia Sting - Ammo
    Walahra Turban/Optical Hat - Head
    Prudence Torque/Peacock Charm/Spectacles - Neck
    Suppanomimi/Brutal Earring - Earrings
    Hydra Doublet/Reverend Mail/Nashira Manteel/Tabin Jupon - Body
    Blessed Mitts - Hands
    Sniper's+1/Toreador/Sniper's/Woodsman/Jaeger - Rings
    Swift Belt - Waist
    Blessed Trousers - Legs
Bellicose Mantle/Umbra or Cheviot Cape - Back
    Blessed Pumps - Feet

    WS:
    Tiphia Sting - Ammo
    Voyager Sallet/Optical Hat - Head
Flame or Light Gorget/Prudence Torque - Neck
    Brutal Earring/Triumph Earring - Earrings
Tabin Jupon/+1 (stupid -MND on Rev grr) - Body
    Healer's Mitts +1 - Hands
Snipers +1/Ruby or Triumph Ring - Rings (dependent on how you opt to do other slots if you want the acc here or no)
    Swift Belt - Waist
    Blessed Trousers - Legs
Royal Army Mantle/Bellicose Mantle - Back
Random RSE1 or 2 Feet - whichever provide STR (Mithra RSE1 in my case; Taru is RSE2)

Throw on the Noble's if MP gets low, and switch to Staff for Spirit Taker maybe /shrug. This of course is talking about more than one fight.. one NM fight like this, you probably won't need the MP ticks (bring juice if you'd rather).

Haste in the TP setup, besides for faster swinging, is also high priority for Utsusemi recasts, since WHMs don't exactly evade/parry a ton.

Also, avoid things like Rostrums; esp as Taru, -HP in melee not always a good idea. Plus, again, the Haste on Blessed > Rostrums in melee situations.

    Re: Silverhook WHM/NIN Solo Guide

I appreciate all the comments you guys have left and I've taken all of them into consideration, it was a major goof on my behalf...I meant to put macro in rainbow cape for WS^^ and I'll defnantly be digging my Blessed Pumps out of storage to get some loltaruHP

I still think these clubs are really cool, yeah Perdu want is uber but for those who really dont see themselves getting one (me lol) I thought this guide would help some others

Yah my WHM TP gain gear and WS gear is still a major work in progress, the main reason I posted it was to show you dont need mega fabulous kclubs and prud torques to solo this guy^^ still thanks for the suggestions tho, I'll add stuff to my lolDDWHM wishlist

    Re: Silverhook WHM/NIN Solo Guide

Believe me, when I first started WHM melee (back when people thought I was insane to even attempt to solo EP Robber Crabs), my gear was nowhere near what it is now. Took time to hone and whatnot, and to gather the equip, obviously. Obviously things can be done with less, one can always make do... just more of a perspective as to what will maximize your output and lessen risk.

Don't see myself getting these clubs anytime soon, but when I'm done with RDM merits, will have enough IS for perdu wand (for like 3 Perdu wands >.> )

Getting a seveneyes (I like the placebo that is ConserveMP) would be sexy too, but yeah...

@Ashira: How long did it take (took?) to solo a Crab? No dispel must really suck along with lack of slashing (or was it piercing?) bonus.

LOL.. then... oh man. This was pre-Blessed, pre-Wala Turban... pre these sea pirate clubs... actually, I started a lot of WHM melee attempts before Rev. Mail and whatnot were released; it was pretty insane. I moved up slowly too, as I got more comfortable with soloing, and found varying nuances in gear that worked better. I randomly used to go out to solo all sorts of things, for no reason other than to solo... from Kuftal Crabs to Coeurls in Onzozo, to Crabs in Boyahda... now with all the gear upgrades available, I've tanked WS parties in Kuftal and can solo Steelshells np... but yeah, fights then used to be somewhere around 5 mins plus, each... and if I had to choose a weird spot because of EXP PTs... well, I more than once died to ghost aggro....

As a non-rare/ex club I also like purgatory mace, the occasional stun proc is always good for a few extra seconds on the Utsu: ni recasts!
I usually use this as my solo eq build:

Weapons: Sea Robber/Purgatory Mace or Prudence
    Ammo: Smart Grenade/Hedgehog bomb
Head: Turban, O-hat for WS, Nashira for enfeebling
Neck: Peacock charm (working on light gorget)
    Ears: Suppa/Brutal
    Rings: Rajas/Ulthalam
Hands: Blessed for TP, Healers +1 for WS
Body: Noble's for TP, Rev. Mail for WS or when I have refresh, Nashira for enfeebling & utsu casts
Back: blah my back sucks, I just use my lazy bum altruistic one for MP (ninjitsu skill too! yeah! er! heh ^^; )
Waist: Potent belt (0/16 swift ><)
    Legs: Blessed
Feet: Blessed for TP, Taru F clomps for WS

I really like my haste gear, I just wish the stupid fomor were more generous with their drops lol ><

Also, I thought Blackbeard was supposed to be the hard one, not Silverhook? Nice guide otherwise ^^ Just an aside, I feel like a lolgimp asking, but anyone got any suggestions for living through Sea Horror 100 fists as WHM/NIN? I want some revenge on that mofo and I do fine except 100 fists just owns my little taru ass >_<

Yeah, I still have my Purgatory Mace as well; and in cases where I find I don't have many Accuracy issues, I'll usually pull it out.
