I'm usually the one that makes both since I have the most culinary talent in the family.
Christmas Eve Dinner: Homemade Tomato and Basil sauce, Homemade Penne Rigate with fresh mozzarella stirred through.
Christmas Dinner: Standing Rib Roast with Mustard Horseradish Sauce, Sour Cream and Chive Mashed Potatoes, Broccoli Casserole, Homemade Macaroni and Cheese, Deviled Eggs and a bunch of little things.
Marry me.
Tonight is
Roast Beast
Asparagus
Roasted Potatoes
Various Rolls
A 7-layer Dip for hors d'oeuvres, cheesecake for dessert.
Tomorrow
Beef Wellington
Carrot Souffle
Mashed Potatoes
Various Rolls again
Crab cocktails for hors d'oeuvres (probablyu dungeness), and Pumpkin Pie for dessert.
I'm at home so I'm kind of playing the sous chef, can't wait to start cooking and then of course eat!

For the last 7 or 8 years we haven't had turkey for either Thanksgiving or Christmas, but instead free-range chickens that are acquired through a golfing buddy of my mother. Since there's only three of us in my family a 7 or 8 lbs. chicken is just fine for one big supper, leftovers, and bones for soup stock.
The Christmas Eve supper menu derives a bit from French Canadian traditions my parents, who grew up in the Maritimes, which usually includes Tourtiere savory meat pies and buche de Noel (Yule log). But there's also more British staples like a Christmas ham, brusslesprouts, mincemeat pies and Christmas pudding. I think the idea of the fancy and luxurious Christmas Eve supper, compared to the more subdued and relaxed Christmas day, comes from Quebecois and French traidtions of Reveillon; but we never went to Midnight Mass or anything as we weren't a religious family.
Likewise for us. Most of my mother's side of the family lives near us, so they all come over for dinner on Christmas eve with the rest of us, while on Christmas day it's just the immediate family.Originally Posted by Elesirdur
Dinner tonight? Beef Bourguignon. Tomorrow night? My father plans to attempt to cook Beef Wellington :D
We're doing a mini buffet with my dad. Really nice Pork Chops with a Santa Fe spice rub, buttered chicken and my special blue cheese mashed potatoes.
My family always has a big dinner on Christmas Eve and we usually just eat leftovers on Christmas. We also usually have another couple/family over. My cousin and her boyfriend will be over tonight.
Our list for tonight:
Honey baked ham
Turkey
Stuffing
Sweet potato caserole
Green bean caserole
Corn bread
Potato latkas (some jewish dish that my mother ate growing up a guess, sort of like potato pancakes)
Cranberry sauce
Mashed potatoes
Gravy
Cherry pie
My mother makes an awesome hot buttered rum mix every year. We've also been drinking store-bought Eggnog and I'm sure my parents have some type of wine reserved for dinner. We've also been snacking on crackers/cheese/salami/chocolates throughout the day.![]()
this year was a pretty lazy year
we generally do the ham on christmas eve, and the prime rib christmas day. seeing as how i stopped eating red meat 4? years ago, i have roast chicken :D
this year:
ham
broccoli (sp?) casserole
scalloped potatos (idk why we have this, my mom wanted it)
buttered bread rolls
rice
roasted asparagus (<3)
roasted chicken (with a yummy herb mushroom gravy that i made)
apple pie
pecan tarts
chocolate mousse 3 ways (i made this for my mom :D, one way with raspberry sauce, one with andes chocolate mint chips, one flavored with espresso [<3])
its been a lazy year, we dont even have a tree this year![]()
being jewish my christmas meal will consist of marijuana and chinese food.
by the way that wine sounds good, Phelps makes some good stuff. Merlots are always kinda iffy for me. but I work in a wine shop and after spending 11 hours selling tons and tons and tons of wine if I never see a bottle it will be too soon.
Niro's sounds teh yummies.
As for my family:

Lots of them.
And they are fucking DELICIOUS.
<3 Tamales and enchiladas.
Christmas eve supper:
Big roast turkey
Green Bean casserole
"Dressing" (stuffing? different people call it different stuff)
Mashed potatoes & turkey gravy
Dinner rolls
A spinach and red lettuce sallad
A pecan pie, and a banana cream pie.
All made from scratch except the rolls, which are the kind you buy already "raised" and stuff and just bake em.
Christmas breakfast is always a big bundt pan cinnamon roll thing, basically brown sugar on the bottom, frozen dinner roll balls rolled in butter and cinnamon+sugar with pecans layered in between, let sit overnight and baked when we wake up.
Christmas "dinner" (lunch)
Prime rib
My mom's "famous" cheesy potatoes, basically small potato squares cooked like a casserole in a thick sauce of cream of mushroom soup, turkey broth made from the turkey from the night before, onions, sour cream, and lots and lots and lots of cheeeeeese. mmmmmmmmm sooo good
Probably a turkey hash
More green been casserole and rolls
Same salad probably
Seven layer cookies
My sister's weird cookies that are basically like an almond pie crust cooked as cookies then drizzled with chocolate
More pie, fudge, all the christmas candies
Again all from scratch
All the meals have a big serving platter of veggies like broccoli, carrots, fresh uncooked green beans, yada yada.
And the best part is it's all cooked at my house by other people so I get none of the work and all of the leftovers \:D/
Christmas Eve Supper:
Bread, crackers, sopressata, fresh mozzarella and tomato, spinach rolls, olives, seafood salad.
