Does "Merry Christmas" offend you?

I am agnostic and it doesn't offend me. Why? Short answer: I'm not a whiney pussy asshole dumbshit.

Long answer: I don't care about your religion or your religious holidays no matter what religion you are. Also, christmas is about as christian as hookers and blow. It's a commercial holiday FAR FAR FAR more than a christian one, so who the fuck cares? Might as well get offended at someone saying "have a nice day." Has the same goddamn empty meaning.

I am atheist (I view Religion as a crutch to comfort humanity's inability to face death and the unknown) and it doesn't offend me at all. Even if it was still a religious holiday it wouldn't offend me. Face it, Xmas isn't about religion for 99% of the population anymore. It's about commercialism. That and the free day off from work!

I am a Christian but saying or not saying it doesn't offend me for multiple reasons. Like was said above, Christmas is hardly "Christmas" anymore in regards to being a Christian holiday. Also, there are other holidays around this season, so a generic "Happy Holidays" is a safer choice because there is a chance people celebrate something other than Christmas.

Christmas seems to be going in a good direction for Christians, though, imo. Even if people are leaving out Jesus from the holiday, if they're keeping with the "spirit of giving" like everyone associates with Christmas anyway, as a Christian you can say that Jesus is still within the holiday. As long as the end result is better people I don't think it really matters if everyone cheers for one God or not.

I'm an Atheist and i say Merry Christmas all the time. It's the "Atheists" you have to look out for. Those are the ppl that say they are Atheist but in reality they believe in some kind of higher power but are pissed off at him/her for whatever reason.

I also don't believe in unicorns, and i don't go around saying "ZOMG there's no such thing as unicorns!!! Seeing one in a store offends me!!"

What i'm trying to say is that only the ppl who hate God get offended.

The bible has a lot of good stories in it, stories i'll one day teach my children (if i ever have any that is). And if ppl wanna get emo over a book, then they need to wake the fuck up.

I say whatever the hell I want within reason. People wishing others a Merry Christmas are obviously doing it with good intentions so anyone getting upset about it was probably looking for a reason to be upset.

I guess I fall into that 1% then. Been using Advent as a time of sacrifice and preparation for the 2nd most religious holiday of the year. I say Merry Christmas because well; it's the reason behind the season. I won't get all uppity though if someone says happy holidays though. I'm excited for midnight Mass tonight though. Caroling from the Choir at 11:30 and then Mass with all the smells and bells of a good Catholic High Mass.

That's probably one of the nicest way's I've ever heard it said. My old roomates are agnostic and well took quite offense to my decorating this time of the year. The way you said it however; is very kind.

I am happy (though a bit surprised) about the responses. Usually whenever something Christian related (even if this one has been commericialized) you get tons of people saying "stfu with your brain-washed beliefs". So kinda glad to see people don't too upset with this holiday at least.


I remember a couple years ago when there was some movement that was pressuring stores like walmart, kmart, etc. to label their christmas trees "holiday trees" to keep christianity out of their stores.

I'm not an atheist but this is how I take it as well.

I mean damn, people seem to ignore you for the whole of the year and then suddenly, people start to warm up because of the holiday season and become nice. It's shocking to get a "merry christmas" from random strangers who at any other time of the year would rather string you up by your balls and whack you like a piñata.

anyone who gets offending by a "merry christmas" is either overly sensitive, aggressive or just plain stupid.
