You can't even spam on Hard, which doesn't require you to beat the game to unlock.

Were you able to swap between hard and normal mode? I seriously don't remember much about hard mode. I beat the game on normal setting, and played 10h on w/e mode is unlocked when you beat the game.
Anyway, no one is going to play on higher difficulty on their first play through.
There are plenty rpg's with real time combat systems... and charismatic you'd argue with a fuckin wall, its why I love you in a non sexual way.
You're right that there are other RPGs with real-time combat systems... but they are not the same.
Okay I love the Tales games as much as the next guy but the simple fact of the matter, and this is true with S.O. games as well, is that all battles ultimately end up into spamming your best attack. To say no one is playing the games for the story is a severe understatement.
Many people including myself don't play the games spamming our best attack, they weren't even designed to be played that way (you can even tell by the way they usually make you get your ougis, but OK)

and the return of the Dhaos RAYZAR
Spoiler: show
Pressing L1, R1, L1, R1, L1, R1 (or up circle, down circle, up circle, down circle) is spamming the same attack no matter how I look at it. You use the same sequence every fight indifferently of the mobs you're fighting to pull your "infinite combo".
Tales game and StarOcean are all about preparation. The execution of those combo is a joke and require mindless button mashing, not skill or reflex.
Well, let's see your combo videos then.
The execution of these combos is not really as simple as you're making it out to be.
The do require a degree of skill (precision and great timing)
That's why not everyone can do them.
I would rather see a video of your first playthrough, and how you pull those awesome combos every fight, when monster die after your 2nd move (unless you equip some low damage weapons and go specifically for long combo.)
Some combo probably require more timing than other, but I unlocked every "combo title" in every tales game using some cheap move that allow you to get long chain easily. None of the battle I went through required this sort of infinite combo, and your typical chain of 2 skills will get you through every normal encounters.
Stop playing on normal if you find the games to be that easy.
This is why I don't ever play the games on normal battle rank at all anymore.
Monsters do not die after your 2nd move unless you grind.
And if you're grinding then wonder why the monsters are weak... I just don't know what to say.
I'm playing Tales games for the story, not for the gameplay... Why would I waste my time on a gameplay that doesn't interest me when I could be playing Metal Gears or Devil May Cry? I don't mind the gameplay (in rpg), but I wouldnt play one for it.
And playing this kind of game on on Hard is retarded when it's your first time (assuming it's unlocked from the start). You're just going to get owned in boss fight, or with TP management in dungeon.
I will never grind in a RPG unless I get to a point where it's the only solution to beat a boss fight (and preparation for a fight is more than enough 99% of the time). I will never escape from an encounter, but that's not what I would consider "grinding".
I generally agree with you in other topic, but you're being retarded here. Stop assuming you're better than anyone at those games...they aren't particularly hard, especially when you're playing rpg for the last 18 years of your life. I'm pretty sure everyone here can do just as good as you by the time they beat the game.
#1: I never said boss fight were "easy" on any difficulty level. Most of them have nasty move that need to be dodged/blocked. Why are you always bringing them back?
#2: Most bosses can't be chained anyway, since they won't get knockbacked by your attack like normal monsters do. The strategy usually consist of doing some hit and run between attack....very differents than what you were saying.
#3: Way to take my post out of context. If it's the first time you're playing the game, you will get lost in dungeon trying to find your way, you will die to certains monsters because you weren't prepared, you will die because you don't know how to build your character properly, since there is no way to tell which move are good before getting them.
Do you even play the game on "hard" difficulty before beating it on normal?
#1) I'm not talking about just bosses.
#2) Just not true, period. Some bosses can be chained better because of the fact that they aren't knocked back.
#3) You don't know which moves are good before getting them, but once you do you can try them out and see which ones link well together just by using them in the game.
and to your last question, I've already said in this very thread that that's exactly what I do.
