    Merit: Banish Effect

    Unlike BLM potency merits "increases the potency of blahblah by 2", it says "increases damage of Banish by 2".
    Is it 2 points of base damage, or 2% like potency? Someone on another message board who wanted to upgrade this got me pondering on this.

    Curious if anyone serious even ever meritted this, lol.

    Not to take this off-topic, but why does he want to upgrade it? All of the other merits benefit WHM better, and everyone should take Bar spells to 5. So I don't see why this question is even asked >.O

    While this will often be true, you have to be careful with words like "everyone". I think the one everyone should take to 5 is Cure Cast. That leaves 5 merits between barspells & regens (or banishes...). Barspells are more useful in endgame, and regens are more useful in merit parties as well as a few other kinds of events. Majority of WHM will fall into the former category (myself included), but for those who don't, I think it's perfectly acceptable to never merit barspells at all.

    And to the OP... I don't think anyone in the history of FFXI has ever upgraded banish potency so... good luck finding an answer.

    and lol, meriting banish is pretty worthless outside of like KRT MNK burns 2 years ago D:
    If you merit on WHM and you don't have ToAU I say go for it!
    Barspells are pretty worthwhile, if you are in an HNM shell and frequently do Tiamat/Ouryu or Bahamut 2(non-melee burn), then they are definitely your best bet.
    Personally I had cure cast lvl 5 and barspell lvl 5 but its kinda discretionary depending on what you actually do with WHM.
    I really don't see Banish worth meriting though, if I didn't have barspells merited most definitely I'd have lvl 5 regen lvl 5 cure cast.

    nostalgic fun :D sadly, one of the monks and both the whm and rdm had no fucking clue what to do mnk used sushi... and I had to yell at the whm and rdm a lot ;;

    Jesus Christ even with no merits, modest ACC+ gear, and Blinded you should be hitting at least 90% there without Sushi. Seriously wtf man. He probably went /NIN too I bet.

    I find now cure cast merits a waste of merits. I did barspell and regen, while leaving cure casting out, the increase in casting is not much notable since the spells dont need that long to go off at all.
    So, you don't have them? How can you say it isn't noticeable? ( It is EXTREMELY noticeable especially with Cure Clogs)

    Bottom line : If you merit banish you should die in a fire

    the best is a good mix between your whms so you can have all the effects haaaaaaaaa

    not in my experience, some mob moves are predictable, just by focuseing on the chatlog dureing fight. and the moves that end deadly are things that are not in the hand of a whm like a double attack mighty strike from tiamat dealing 1500+ dmg, there is nothing you can do about it, and when you think about does moves, its mostly the stunners that fucked up.

    I found the point where cure cast started chugging started at merit 3, but was more pronounced with merit 4.
    If you ever have to back to back cure IV + III (dynamis, BC, duo boxing) you have to re-learn the timing a bit. I used to go off when the sound for cure IV landed and I knew I was god to throw out a III, but then after the 4'th merit there would be an extra second+.5 where I would be "Unable to cast spells at this time" because the bar for Cure IV was still "Charging". I can imagine that the next merit up + cure clogs would make this true for spamming 3's as well, which would really fuck with me.

    But thats for people not looking completely at the screen they're healing with. :D
