Not every ISP carries binary groups on their news server. Verizon is pretty much a rare case in that regard, I believe. A lot of independent servers that carry binaries often charge for the privilege of using them.

You modded it and it actually still works? good job.
I've had mine modded since July..hasn't stopped working yet. I get all my Wii ISOs from Black Cats.
Have had mine modded for a while too. Even fucked up the initial installation and had to redirect some solder points. Never had a problem, never even had a DRE.
I have 2 wii's now, one USA which I got for my little brother. Since he is moving to PA this week, I won't have one so I just got done purchasing one from someone for $160 (YUP LOL)
Why so cheap? Because it's from Pal (Australia), Gonna install a wii key.
Yesterday after having my 360 sitting there for a while, i decided to mod it and it was very easy. It just sucks i have to buy dual layer DVDs. Does the wii use single layer dvds? I hope so.
All the games so far are single layer, but the wiikey added dual layer support if the Wii ever goes that route.
Good way to get great games: go buy them
Yeah, I don't mean to derail, and I totally understand why people do it from a monetary perspective with how expensive stuff has become. But I don't understand why people mod, download games, and then complain when new games are hard to come by. With so many people getting into this, you realize you only compromise the company's profit margin and their ability to produce new material, right?
I download music all the time, but when I like it I head out and buy it, not many people do that with games.
It's really not that expensive if you buy games that present good value.
Example: Metroid Prime 1, $8. Zelda:Wind Waker, $10. Halo 1, $5. Final Fantasy X, $15. Each of these can easily sink as much time as "the latest and greatest", and you can play them on consoles that can be had for under $100. Even last year's good games are typically $20-30 now.
If you're not into paying top dollar for the newest shit, don't try to be an early-adopter.
Eh yeah, true. I'm usually a buy on release person myself, thats more what i was referring to. A used game for Ps3 ran me 50 dollars, 20 off brand new price. Only reason I bought it was because I traded some old games to cut that price in half again.
I can't remember the last time I ever rented a game. I always buy em if I think I'll like em.
If people want to go through the effort to mod, download games, and all of that, then let them. There's nothing morally wrong about it, and the whole "the company/singers/rappers/artists" are suffering is bullshit.
Oh no, microsoft will only make 9 instead of 8billion this year, 50 cent will only make 50million. Yes I realize this could pose a huge problem if everyone did it, but for alot of people, PAYING the $50 is that much easier, and many would prefer that over the hassle. There's so many ways in this world that the poor man gets by "easier" than others. This is no different, and is definitely not the majority, and never will be. People with money readily able to spend will always largely outnumber those who are devious and smart enough to stay on the edge of modding/pirating.
I remember the whole MP3 scare a couple years ago. Last I checked, I didnt see any mainstream singers suffering because of this, living on the streets and ending up poor. Last I checked it was the people who were downloading these MP3s that were the poor/not as well-off ones. I know this seems to condone stealing and if you think about it, is just downright wrong. But take a tunnel-visioned step back, and realize just how fucked up it is for someone to have a 6million dollar home.
Did you have the newer version of Wii? I bought one recently and the newer versions are harder to mod. I can't find anyone that will do it and I have the chip an everythingOriginally Posted by Milks

Nah, I had a launch Wii so it was considered "easy". Just a tip: DON'T TRY YOURSELF IF YOU'RE A SOLDERING NOOB. I honestly wish I would've gotten mine done by someone else, because this was the first thing I ever soldered. The install was sloppy and I was really shaky. I couldn't even get the wires onto the right pads, I was all over the place. It was easier for me to quicksolder.Originally Posted by Falisa
If you have the D2C key I know a couple of reputable modders that can install it for about $100. You'll have to send it off for a few days however.Originally Posted by Falisa
Hmm, this newsgroup thing is confusing...I connected, and I see a huge list of games and all that, so I click them and mark em for download. I see a huge list in my queue now, and it shows that my connection is going at a fast speed(maxed out even). Where the hell is it downloading the files to? Can't find em anywhere.
Nevermind, turns out I wasn't downloading at all. Was stuck on a message-ID or something. Reloaded the program and tried again, and now its actually downloading. Found it!
My favorite modder is out of Austin and has a website at http://www.xmodder.com
He can mod any version of the Wii and it's 40 dollars if you have a chip and 80 if you don't. Not bad and it's a one day turn around too. I drove up to Austin since it's close by and he had it done within an hour.
At least there's a legit reason to hack your Wii now. Homebrew now possible.
