    Seems to be a pattern...
QFT. I understand why people would hold off on WotG atm, but it wouldn't hurt to start accumulating AN and ranking up. Even today I often encounter two types of people. The people still working to get enough Assault Points to have what they want, and the people who have had their entire Assault sets, and comfortably afford Salvage Permits and trips to Nyzul in the same week. The latter type of person most likely didn't sit around the initial months of AU yawning at assault.

    Re: WotG Laziness.

    Hah, I started doing Assault when it came out, and was ranking up really freakin' fast with my static, earned a lot of points and such - and like a big fool, I spent them all on sellable items and cashed in. Nowadays, I'd much rather have the points to do Salvage/get my gear sets. ; ;

...maybe I should really rethink this whole "not doing Campaign" thing...

    Re: WotG Laziness.

Some of the quest rewards are quite nice for a change. If anything, I would suggesting doing the few that come in handy, like the 5/5 reraise II earring.

Not having enough time for Campaign confuses me, unless you mean not having enough time because you are doing other stuff in FFXI. Campaign is basically the fastest way to get exp and get out in less than 30 mins unless you are a BRD who likes disbanding a lot.

And yeah, there are a lot of great non-merit exp camps, if you intend on leveling a new job or something. It would be a good idea to reach every area once and get all maws for that sake. The process of getting people to try new camps is slow enough as it is.

I figure I'll end up doing them sooner or later so why not just get them out of the way now.

Why would anyone flame you, especially since it's against the rules on the newbie board?

Either way, the game is big enough that you can do what you want and not do what you don't want to.

Personally, I've been in the past nearly non-stop since Wings came out. I've made dozens of merit points through campaign, 250K AN, gold star rank, and soloed PLD to 21 (soloing is sooooo easy in the past zones).

If you're happy with whatever you were doing pre-Wings, by all means keep at it. If you want to try something new, go to the past.

Out of context that is very very funny to me.

This stuff has more silver on it than the Hydra set does.

Don't have a handy SS atm.

See! Campaign is great because it is something that you can go do for 20-30 minutes while you are waiting for other stuff and it actually benefits your character. (Static members to log on, linkshell events, before mob windows.)

    Re: WotG Laziness.

Yes, and that's the biggest thing WotG has so far. It finally broke with FFXI's prudish unwillingness to award exp outside of parties, and scroll quests (all 5 of them or so). It basically created a 24/7 method for anyone who wants to go participate, get some exp/merit points, and leave when they choose (unlike Besieged), and be done to do what they please. There's a lot of times it'd be nice to do this, especially if the alternative at the moment is a pickup party. Fuck status curing in some nubtastic mire pickup party with a lazy WHM, I'd rather eat a few dozen ore toss' to the face. Combined with Ops which can be done 10+, someone can finally make some progress on their character in a small amount of time, without having to dedicate a few hours to a party. Campaign can get old, sure, but I say the same of partying. Pick whichever grind suits you better. I'd pick the one that doesn't depend on jackasses who stealth replace themselves every 10 minutes.

Other than that, the new jobs are pretty good, hopefully scholar will be adjusted a little. The new areas, and mobs are cool for a while, some new great lower lvl camps. A good few new quests have pretty good awards. After that though... there's not very much to see or do. And if none of that interests you, you'd not be too bad off to wait till next update or so.

    Re: WotG Laziness.

    Let's put it this way.

I had 9 sickles on me and decided to go harvesting West Saruta [S] cause I wanted some red moko grass. Figured I'd defend if the beastmen attacked.

2500 limit points and a new merit point later, I broke sickle #9. That is win. (so was the 9 red moko grass, mind you.)

It made my PLD not be deleveled anymore. :D And it made me happy in my pants.

And now it's making my tarutaru BLM slave 75 too :D

Haven't bothered with it much since 1st few days post release. Got each maw, map, and mission out of the way. Did a few campaigns.

People actually invite others to xp in the past? that was essentially the sticking point for this expansion for me (and Dancer, but that doesn't count) Of course, I guess it slipped SE's minds to introduce an easier way to get to the past for people on their first jobs. As of now, I've essentially asked everyone on and off for the last two weeks if they'd wanna xp (level 30-45) in the past and got a "wut?" in return.

I've done campaign on and off and it's a lot better than Besieged, asides from that it hasn't offered much.

    Re: WotG Laziness.

    Variety.

Campaigns all have their own quirks, from the different zones causing the mobs to behave differently, to the actual routes the mobs taking being a surprise at times.

"What the hell? How did they get behind us, shit, EAST GO EAST OR DIE!"

Given the amount of people I've been in merit parties with who said "What? Nyzul Isle? What's that?" I wouldn't expect people to be consistently 9/9 for a while.
