ever since the trailer for the next batman came out ive been on a quest to read as much as possible. so far ive knocked out no mands land, killing joke, long halloween, hush, officer down, arkham asylum living hell, death in the family and entire knightfall story line. any other recommendations?
after reading all of these over the last two weeks i just dont think the joker can be done any sort of justice in a movie. i mean as cool as heath ledger looks in the preview i cant picture him escaping from arkham, grabbing a phone book, and saying hes gonna kill everyone in it who's name is a palindrome, as if the idea just popped into his head.
have you read cataclysm? it's after knightfall and before no man's land. another good joker 2 parter I had(might still have it) but can't remember the name.
Batman: Shadow of the Bat #37 (April 1995): "The Joker, Part 1: The King of Comedy"
Batman: Shadow of the Bat #38 (May 1995): "The Joker, Part 2: Tears of a Clown"
Batman: Man who laughs, Batman: The Ultimate evil
Batman : Hush
Iron Man : The Armor Wars
Ultimates 1/2
Batman : The Dark Knight Returns (my all time favorite)
DC 52
Batman vs. Predator
Ultimate X-men : Return of the King
Superman : Up, Up and Away
The entire Preacher series
Astonishing X-men : All of Whedon's Run
Daredevil : Frank Miller's run
Watchmen (If you truly want to see what can be accomplished in the comic medium, dig this up.)
Remove the final issue of Civil War and House of M, and they're both incredible (especially House of M, the build up in that series was awesome), but the final issue in both of those failed incredibly hard and ruined each storylineOriginally Posted by Vandole
Spider-Man: Maximum Carnage story arc
And I liked the Clone Saga, mostly for the return of NormanAlso, the short 3 part arc with the original Hobgoblin coming back.
Aaaaaaaaaaand.....yeah, I like Spider-Man, I just haven't actively read comics in about 10 years![]()
Gunslinger Born is 7 books, and you can buy it all as one 7 chapter hardcover now.Originally Posted by Ketna
However, it sucks fat donkey balls. It talks about how it's "the first place to put stuff in chronological order" and how it's going to offer "views of the dark tower series we've never seen before" and new information and all this shit.
And then all it is is a condensed version of Roland's story from Wizard and Glass, with basically all the good shit taken out and stripped down to only the most important moments. I think it mentions Fran Lengyl once, in passing.
The shit pissed me right off, I was extremely disappointed. Not one single new bit of information whatsoever, and everything that actually made the story so amazing just left out.
Also, I'm not a Steven King fan, and I really don't think The Dark Tower appeals to his typical readers (maybe it does I'm not one so what would I know I guess.) But if you like reading in general it's a pretty freaking amazing story. (the books not the trash comic moneygrubbing bulshit)
Spiderman One More Day...
hahahaha, no.
Uh... hmmm... for some comedy: Marvel's Deadpool comics(including Cable & Deadpool), Great Lakes Avengers, and Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E.
Anyway, Annihilation crossover and the whole Illuminati series are rather nice.
The art alone in Gunslinger Born is worth it, it's the best drawn book I've seen in years.Originally Posted by Plow

As much as I love Peter and how much May means to him...some people need to stay dead like Steve Rogers![]()
My favorite arcs back when I actually still read comics were definitely the Days of Future Past and X-Cutioner's Song arcs from X-Men. I thought that the Phalanx Covenant and Age of Apocalypse arcs, while I did buy them all, were pretty much a let-down.
I only really read marvel so:
Infinity Gauntlet ( Including the whole Jim starlin run on Silver Surfer before hand, Infact almost anything written by starlin is fantastic )
Peter Davids 1st run on Hulk is a great run and has so many storylines :- Countdown was a grear mini in this run and futire imperfect.
Dark Phoniix
Venom's 1st apperence (that little run around then was good)
Spider Man: Kraven's last hunt
Captian Britan (the alan davis/jamie daleno stuff also Excaliber written by davis)
Watchmen
Days of future past
1st Captain Marvel (starlin again) Peter david's run was also great
Secret wars
John Bryne's 1st Fantastic four run,1st She-hulk run,Namour Run(<<< I loved this comic so much),Hulk run, Alpha Flight,West coast avengers run(Someone take's over and ruins the story John was working on this made me sad in the day)
Tomb of Dracula (torrent it^^)
Overall: Fatal Attractions (X-Factor #92, X-Force #25, Uncanny X-Men #304, X-Men #25, Wolverine #75, Excalibur #71)
DC: Knightfall
Marvel: Fatal Attractions
Honorable mentions: Dark Knight Returns, original Age of Apocalypse, House of M
DC
Batman: The Long Halloween
Sandman
Marvel
Meh. Ultimates is okay for Nick Fury L. Jackson shouting at people.
True enough, like Susan with the stone was absolutely amazing, on the other hand even the pretty good illustrations in the collector's edition paperback books kinda pissed me off cuz it's just like "that's not what he looks like ugh" heh.Originally Posted by Krandor
I dunno, there's no denying it's got some great art but I personally prefer it left to the imagination. Only reason I was interested was more story heh.
It's Joe Quesada wanting to make Spiderman a teengage hero even if he hasn't been for a long, long time. But, he's much better than DC's DiDio, oh god.Originally Posted by -Zer0-
As interesting as it sounds, I think Peter will always have that trait at heart. Just look at him throughout the years. He hasn't changed much at all, only improved upon. I'm hoping it turns out well, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. I can't help but feel that he needs Mary Jane at his side, not sacrificed and possibly lost forever. I can see this turning out both good and bad.Oh the possibilities... :\
No, just bad I'm afraid. Very bad. Why is the word "good" written in this paragraph?Originally Posted by -Zer0-

Bad, bad bad, and bad bad bad.
Bad.
NOT GOOD
I figured someone would beat me to it. Yeah, both were great until the last issue. But holy hell were their last issues horrible beyond belief.Originally Posted by Krandor
I disliked Fatal Attractions because I hate Magneto as a one-dimensional villain. Chris Claremont put too much good work into the character to try to go back to the "Magneto has tied Storm to the railroad tracks" shtick of clichéd villainy.Originally Posted by Turambar

Well, again, like I said, despite having a bad vibe about it and knowing it'll turn out bad, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt seeing as how Quesada's done some decent work in the past (well ._. sort of).
The good is that I can see this tying in with finishing up the arc with Miss Arrow and concluding his evolution that Civil War and New Avengers interrupted at the end of The Other. Also, seeing he and MJ get back together might be interesting, although it just goes to show they're running short on ideas here and there.
The bad is that it's just a horrible way to open things up and it's just giving an unnecessary slate to he and MJ and...Harry, also leading to what'll probably be a lot of confusion in the Marvel universe to those who inquire to their relationship or why Peter's all "more-teenager-like."
Just my two cents, here's to hoping![]()
