Sound Issue

Ok so I feel really stupid for making a thread about this. However, I can't figure out for the life of me what could be causing this and I am pretty much computer stupid when it concerns anything even slightly technical, but here goes anyways. So after my Dad was on the comp yesterday I have been having some issues with the sound. Whenever I watch a video on youtube the voices seem to echo quite a bit the same can be said for any song I play in iTunes. The same is true of the voice in the opening video of FFXI and I am sure it is the same for other things as well. Also, whenever I click to open a file instead of the normal noise experienced when opening a file I seem to have some kinda funky echoing bzzzbzzz sound going on. Like I said sorry for such a silly/strange question I really wish I could describe it a bit better. Any ideas or help would be much appreciated cause this problem is driving me crazy!

Do you have a microphone anywhere near your speakers

Nope microphone is in the same place it has been for longer then I can remember and never had an issue like this. I even tried unplugging it, but nothing has changed

Have you checked to see if you simply have a DSP on in your card? For instance, if you have a Soundblaster series card, you should have an Audio Console control panel or something to check if EAX effects are on or not.
