Hell my first PS2 from launch lasted a good 4-5 years until FFXI finally broke it.

You all are probably smarter than the rednecks I run across on a daily basis, but keep in mind there's actually three different kinds of red ring of death, and one of them means you have no problem at all :D

If you have four quadrants red, you're fine, something with your AV is messed up though.. most likely its just not plugged in right (an easy fix, if you arent colorblind or busy screwing a duck) The other two are both 'fatal' in that you have to repair, but... we've had a bunch of people try to return 360's from the four-quadrant 'fake' RRoD

What do you need for you to send it in? Warranty page, numbers on the back of the xbox? I just moved and am looking for all my stuff. >.> Got the ring of death the other day.

The ridiculously high failure rate of 360's can't be compared to any console in the past, it's in a league of it's own in regards to this.

It's more shocking that you people are purchasing 360's and NOT expecting them to fail.

It's almost status-quo that a 360 owner is going to go through 2-3 of them

Re: XBox360 Red Ring of Death :<

Hmmm I don't know if it's my game disc or disc reader or something else, but this morning I started up my 360 connected to xbox live (no problems) then tried to start POL Viewer. Before I got to the login screen the Xbox live popped out and attempted to sign on for less than a second, then kicked me to dashboard saying I have no Xbox live connection. I checked Network Settings and have played Halo 3 matchmaking so I know my Xbox live is working... does anyone have any ideas? The only thing I can think of is to check another POL disc but my WOTG disc is with my brother (2 hours away) and I don't feel like shelling out $30 to buy a new one without knowing it will work...

Re: XBox360 Red Ring of Death :<

Yea, I connected before but whenever it tired to download an update for eternal sonata, it would say I couldn't connect. Pissed me off because I just got my 360 back like a week ago and now had time to play it today and this shit happens.

In response to the disc read error thing. Mine had that problem, my disc drive was scratching games and then the game could never load past a certain point or when you went to a different menu. I sent it back and they sent me a brand new 360 and everything is working fine, even the scratched games. It only took 2 weeks once I shipped it out to the day I got it back. Took a little less than a week to get the prepaid shipping box. So a total of 3 weeks for me. Worked out good for me since it was finals time when it broke.

Also, 3 red rings means insufficient power, so that can be fixed by looking at the plug. Mine wasn't plugged in all the way and I was getting that problem before. So, 3 or 4 red rings are just stupid connection issues.

3 is also the fatal one I think, according to wiki and the poster a few posts up. I got 3 the other week and replugged in my power stuff and it worked, haven't had any problems since.

Re: XBox360 Red Ring of Death :<

My 360 RRoD'd 5 times in a row, until it started working again. A week later it started to freeze more gradual until the point where it'd freeze on start up. This is a month after purchase, got it taken back by Gamestop for free (error on their part, they only accept it w/o one of their plans up to 7 days). I bought the plan there for $50, and they stopped offering said plan a couple weeks later.

The 360 today, 2 Ringed. It just shut off and started flashing. After freezing a few more times and cursing my ass off, I found out it was over heating. Got it on a plastic Patio table I stole from the neighbor's yard instead of under my TV on the carpet. You can really hear the fan now, I can hear it downstairs in the kitchen if I leave my bedroom door open.

I'm currently waiting for it to die, almost wanting it to so I can go exchange it.

My launch PS2 broke twice in two years, while my launch Xbox360 is still going strong Perhaps I'm just lucky in this regard

Re: XBox360 Red Ring of Death :<

Cousin had his die out on him a few days ago; returned it to Costco, and they swapped it straight up, he got Call Of Duty 4 for free because it was bundled.

Anyway, he got a 360 with the Falcon chip or whatever it is. Those supposedly don't have overheating issues, but he said his new 360 was even louder than the previous one. He also noted that it was made cheaper, he said that the "On" button on the front feels cheaper made, as it doesn't click or push in. Also that the disc tray is also noticeably cheaper made. He thought about getting a PS3 instead, but already had a 360 library of games. Has anyone had a RRoD or bad experiences with Falcon model? I don't own my own 360 as I decided to just go the PS3 route since both consoles offer the same titles pretty much, except for the obvious exclusives.

I've had a falcon model since about a week before Christmas, got a rrod a week after I got it BUT I think it wast just related to power cus I unplugged/reset and it works fine, hasn't had any real problems to speak of aside from that. I play gh3 and all the dlc takes a sec to load to play the song preview, but I think that's just because it's on the hard drive. The drive itself is noisy as noise but what can you do, works for me.

    Got my Xbox back today!

Judging by my post in this thread, it took exactly 3 weeks from when it broke to when I got it. Better than I thought. Only problem I had is the paper in the box saying "Please accept this 1 month of xbox live card free..." and there's no card in the box.

I got three rings about last week or so. I was playing CoD and it locked up, I tried restarting it but it wouldn't. I can't find the recipt either, and I've only had it for two years or so. =\

Also, I had bought CoD about a week before. The 360 managed to scratch two thick lines into it (Iunno, maybe 1-2cm across?) So now I can't play on every online map...

This happened to me too, when I was setting up my new xbox(with it inside) and it fell over.

Re: XBox360 Red Ring of Death :<

i got my first 360 xmas of 2006, didn't really play it that much. had lost planet ghost recon and lego star wars 2 (sick sick game)

so i had a couple college buddies over one night and decided to fire it up for some 2 player lost planet and found that the ol 360 wouldnt read any dics not even dvds which i had primarily been using it for

after some time messing around with it the cd tray wouldnt even accept a disc at all and wouldnt even stay inside the unit

the next day i called up MS and they forwarded me to the nearest replace/repair center which happened to be in toronto only 2 hours away. they shipped me a box by puralator(sp?) 2 days later which i shipped back out the next day. 2 days after shipping the box out i got my brand new xbox360 with 2 months of live and a fresh extended warranty.

My new one hasn't had to many problems lately and i have been playing the shit out it on my new 42"1080p but it has froze once due to over heating (left 2 quadrants are red) and frozen randomly at least once with no lights at all.

overall great experience with MS on the RMA prolly one of the easiest hardware RMAs ever
