Password isn't being saved

I know that rsbo.exe is a keylogger that forces you to re-enter the password for FFXI's log in. Is there any other viruses out there that's doing this recently? I have my password saved, but every time I log in, it keeps asking me to re-enter my password. I've been using the copy/paste trick to log in "safely." Has anyone else been experiencing this sort of log in issues?

i don't know, but a good system scan can't hurt. as for your wrong password, have you checked to see if the right one is saved?

It's not that the wrong password is being saved, but rather that the password is not saved. So it is empty. It is being set/saved properly, but every few times I re-log in, it occasionally dissappears...

Not that I have any insight as to the cause, but I also had this same issue about a month ago. For a good 2 weeks, I had to retype my password each time, and it wasn't limited to any specific characters, happened with any I tried to log in to. Problem just corrected itself after 2 weeks for some reason.

one thing that might be the culprit is the way you sign out of POL/FFXI. do you crash the game or sign out the legitimate but lengthy way?

I have the same problem but it seems isolated to when I crash POL or dc from FFXI !

Kinda late, but copy/paste isn't any safer, and I don't know if it was confirmed that the recent keylogger actually MAKES FFXI forget your passwords. It was just something I suggested on the other thread as a possibility. If you're worried that you have a key logger, DO NOT LOG IN until you can confirm that you don't have any of the known variations of it, and be careful to not type your passwords anywhere else while you're doing that.

Anyways, POL itself forgets passwords pretty easily, it's happened to me a few times recently, particularly when I dual-box and have to forcibly shut down one of the copies. Can also happen due to changing hardware or certain OS settings, or a problem with the file that POL uses to store the info (Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\PlayOnlineViewer\usr\a ll\login_w.bin, I think?).

I'm home for winter break, so I'm using my laptop rather than the usual desktop for FFXI. I have been disconnecting more often (comcast rather than college internet). I guess the disconnects + game freezing now and then is the cause. Thanks! (System scans didn't turn up anything) I haven't gone to any FFXI sites other than BG; I only use this laptop for winter and summer breaks.

This has been happening to me and another guy i know in my ls, sometimes POL saves it and sometimes it doesnt. and i don't have the rsbo exe or any of that stuff either. i've used /logout and /shutdown and it's still pretty random if it saves it or not.

usually when shit on my comp isnt working as it should, i do the most obvious thing.

uninstall and reinstall it, surprisingly it works half of the time.

That actually could be related to your original problem. If you had your ethernet card disabled in the control panel and then reenabled to go home for break, it would have cleared your password. What I've noticed is when that happens to me you get that prompt to enter your password when you log in as you've described, as well as an option to save it, but it never stays saved. However, if you cancel out from that menu and go choose your name off the member list, then choose settings, and then Save password from the bottom options and enter it in, it will remain saved. If you haven't tried that, it could work.

From what I remember, when you goto put in your password there should be a settings option or something. This will take you back to where you can redo your login profile and you can click to save your password. A while back I transferred FFXI over drives and had to mass find/replace through the registry. This screwed up the saved password feature, and I only found out recently that you could reset it in the settings there.
