Oblivion vs Diablo II (and Oblivion Installation Issues)

I used to play Diablo II quite a few years ago and I really enjoyed the game. However, it got old after a while. I am interested in playing Oblivion and I was wondering if there were some people that have played both Diablo II and Oblivion and could compare the two. Would someone who enjoyed Diablo II likely enjoy Oblivion as well?

edit: I got the game to work, there were some issues with drivers/other programs interfering with installation, etc.

Compare D2 and Oblivion? Surely you kid. They are like the exact opposite ends of the RPG genre. Completely incomparable, seriously.

They do share one similarity. Both give me problems to run. Diablo II LoD refuses to acknowledge my CD (hence, run with a hack) and Oblivion is perhaps the shoddiest PC game I've seen in quite some time, in terms of stability.

Heh ya, Oblivion does have some bugs. I had a really hard time getting the game to stop crashing . So far, I've played Oblivion for a day and there are not a huge amt. of similarities besides the dark theme seen in both.

While I can not compare Diable2 with Oblivion I can recommend you look into the diverse D2 mod community. You can play offline, or online TCP/IP or on an open server with others who play the mods. They really do fix a lot of what was wrong with the game and to add a lot to it.

I would check out Eastern Sun: Forum and the Database (with links to the wiki)

Maybe, maybe not. There's no real way to tell, like people mentioned they're completely different kinds of games. Oblivion is a lot more about doing things (quests and whatnot) and playing your character the way you want to and a lot less a bout, say, hunting for item X or Y, so if you like that, you'll like the game I suppose.

If you ever get back into D2 though, the above mod kicks some major ass. Makes single player a whole lot more fun than normal D2

I like Oblivion just because I think the NPC's were innovative. I don't branch out what games I play much but I haven't seen NPC's coded in to actually have somewhat "normal" lives and go about those throughout the day. And some of the NPC's in Oblivion that would try to steal food and shit were hilarious. I actually didn't go far in the game (it's really not my kind of game, but I enjoyed parts of it a lot lol) but I'm still glad I played it.

NWN will feel more like D2 than Oblivian will, if thats what you're looking for.

    QFT.

The leveling system was terrible, it punished the casual gamer and forced you to meticulously level particular skills and deliberately not level others; truly retarded.

Also the fact that loot changed depending on your level was equally retarded. The magic system also blew balls and there wasn't even levitation like there was in Morrowind. Overall Oblivion is the epitome of what the American RPG gamer has come to encourage:

No story, no gameplay, lack of creativity and all at the price of flashy graphics.

Actually, I hated Oblivion's graphics. Aside from some of the landscape views it really was ugly. Technically pretty good but the art was way below what I consider good.

The story was stupid for oblivion but shivering isles was great. The gameplay was IMO pretty good in a lot of aspects, but its level design and monster design were boring as hell.

    :sandy:

I have played and finished both games..

Diablo II is much more enjoyable but has alot less side storys.

In the other hand Oblivion has so many bugs that will kill your enjoyment, but has very nice graphic.

    anyway Diablo II > Oblivion
