    War Setup Help

I just recently finished getting my war to 75 and finally got a chance to parse a good colibri burn. My current gearset got me 90% acc using mithkabobs only. Im happy with 90% but I have 2 questions, but first my gearset that I used for the parse.

    5 Axe merits
    0 Sword merits

    TP Set:
    Maneater/Ridill
    Fire Bomblet
    Walahra Turban
    Peacock Charm
    Suppa/Brutal
    Hauberk
    Dusk Gloves
    Rajas/Ulathalam's(sp)
    Amemet+1
    Potent Belt
    Byakko's Haidate
    Amir Boots

    WS Set: (bolded gearswaps)
    Maneater/Ridill
    Fire Bomblet
    Hecatomb Head
    Peacock Charm
    Assault Earring/Brutal Earring
    Hecatomb Harness
    Hecatomb Mittens
    Rajas/Ulathalam's(sp)
    Amemet+1
    Potent Belt
    Byakko's Haidate
    Hecatomb Feet

    So here are the questions:
    1. Im somewhat of a haste whore so im thinking of using Swift Belt + Unicorn Feet instead of Potent + Amir. Do you think the added haste is worth the loss of acc? I tried askar korazin before I started parsing and it didnt seem to work out as well as hauberk so im worried about the acc loss.

    2. I went straight from the mire to colibri and havent gotten a chance to do mamool/puks yet. Granted there I can use sushi, but im working towards a meat build because in my opinion acc gear + atk food > atk gear + acc food. How much extra acc would I need to stack on to keep up with mamools eva?

    thanks everyone :ashira:

Swift would be fine but with the lesser acc of Ridill might want to keep amir feet. I do axe/axe and use Unis. I only have one more axe merit then you and I use meat on everything with virtually the same build, other then a few pieces and HQs; Swift Belt, Unicorn Boots, Hauby+1, Sniper+1 in place of Rajas and I use Warwold on WS over Potent(cept on Mamool).

You'll probably want to WS in Hauberk vs the Hecatomb Harness too.

You might need to get some Sword merits before you try ditching that ACC for Haste.

You're at 90% now, which is good, but dropping that gear without any Sword merits will probably put you lower ACC-wise that you'd be happy with.

And use Hauberk over Heca Harness, Attack Bonus

Yeah, if you got the room for it you should go for lvl 8 sword merit.

Ridill/Joyeuse is widely regarded as superior to Maneater/Ridill at that camp. I've only merited there once (R/J) so I can't attest to this personally, but if you're picking up some sword merits you should probably try switching.

And yeah, I suspect your accuracy would be sufficient already to dump the ACC gear for haste. It'll probably parse a little bit better now, and once you've maxed out your merits the haste setup should blow it away.

Ditch the dual wield and get a gaxe.

Ditch the bandwagoner'ish Gaxe-worshipping attitude (the fuck is this, allakhazam?) and put that Ridill to good use. Both of you (which means, first and foremost, Sword merits for the OP).

Bad ridills, maybe. There are plenty of those. Fortitude (and GAX in general) are much better than they used to be, but DW is still where it is at.

    Re: War Setup Help

To each his own of course.

However, I honestly haven't seen any fully decked Ridill WAR/NIN surpass the potential of a fully decked GA WAR/SAM as of the most recent 2h patch. It's been quite a while since that patch but I haven't exp'd or been in other parsable situations enough since then to make an accurate statement concerning it at this time.

All things considered though, the loss of around 15-20 att/acc would level the playing field a lot more. But, it wouldn't make one choice obviously superior. If I had to say, they're at best about on the same level as far as pure damage output goes.

Factoring in other aspects would make this argument more complicated so I'm just leaving it at that. The whole survivability/mob TP gain/situationalblahblah comparisons all basically come out about equal anyway when you weigh all the positives and negatives.

    Re: War Setup Help

I didn't see anything at all about or even related to tanking or damage efficiency mentioned; just damage output. I'm personally just discussing damage output, and I believe the others are just concerned about damage output as well, so obvious facts like WAR/NIN can use Utsesumi aren't really pertent.

Like I said in the end of my last post, if you want to go into a detailed cost-benefit analysis of every positive and negative of both weapons and SJs then by all means have a blast, but I'm sticking to the simple 'higher damage potential?' topic until then. Lazy ftw.

Since we're just talking about damage output, then maybe we should tell the OP to stop levelling war, put all his effort into getting kraken and/or apoc. He can worry about carrying around an outside party of white mages and corsairs for his souleater rotation later, right?

And where's the discussion about chain-throwing god winds. Just bring along a gilseller-like army of tarus bazaaring new winds for 1g each so he can keep his damage output up?

Fact of the matter, /sam is fail for 90% of what a warrior is good for, so regardless of the merits of war/sam+gax, work on that DW build.

    Re: War Setup Help

Yes because the obvious solution to any and every focused discussion is to over generalize and post something that is in concept completely unrelated, unhelpful, and just plain something a jackass would say? Because well, that's exactly what anyone would be doing if their response to this post was:

"If you want to do good damage forget all this shit you're asking about, sell all your WAR gear, level DRK, buy a Kraken/Apoc, and forget about your WAR."

And frankly shit like that isn't what people should be posting. Or do you disagree?

I'm simply not going further into this subject than talking strictly about damage output because anyone with common sense and some history on these boards knows that it's one big flame war waiting to happen, and frankly I don't give a shit enough to even attempt to start one. Nor do I even care enough to participate in one on this topic. Too many people would love to bash Ridill and too many would support it to death for all they went through to get it, and then when you bring in /SAM vs /NIN it amplifies tenfold. It's just not worth getting into all that crap when it's obviously not even the topic of discussion at this time.

I do agree that one major part of the WAR job is versatility, and having both options available is obviously the best answer rather than only having one. But, that's not even related at all what I was saying (and hell I have both sets of gear fully equipped and available). My point was that if you're going for higher damage output then you're likely going to find they're both about on about the same playing field. Simple.

Hey, your posts in this topic only serve to back up Blackice, who started this whole tangent by doing exactly what you just described. So either you're ok with this kind of behaviour, or you shouldn't have posted in the first place.

But regardless, you miss my point, which is to say that as soon as you introduce something that boils down to "ignoring the fact that you're a warrior" as a caveat, you've wasted your time posting on a topic called "War Setup Help"

    Re: War Setup Help

The purpose of me posting in this topic was not to defend Blackice, you're assuming incorrectly. Our different approaches to this topic shoud've made that apparent, but I'm fully aware that it appears that way.

Regardless, I posted in this topic because I didn't fully agree with any of the preceding posts on the topic of GA's damage output vs dual wielding (including Ice's). Whether or not Ice's post was included in that group of posts I didn't fully agree with wouldn't have changed my decision to post. Thus, the resulting post of me adding my two cents.

Hell, despite all that me and Ice had completely different conclusions. I don't really see how you could say differently as to my motives for my posts.

And, I don't see how recommending the use of GA and WAR/SAM is at all ignoring the fact you're a WAR. I suppose you would feel the same over recommending the use of MNK/WAR for a situation?
