Thanks Belkin, i hadnt really thought of my merits like that. I suppose I will go 5 ice acc 3 bioIII and then decide where to go from there.

I agree with not needing dusk on Utsusemi, I use them mostly because RDM body doesn't like to drop for me and I have them already from THF. I'm at 26 or 27 recast without it. I also find it mainly useful for duoing things that are shared straight tanking or short distance bounced if you ever prefer to go that method. For instance, straight tanking Suzaku.
The main benefit in my opinion of the Loq. Earring, Tabard and Chapeau is the shortened cast timer, especially for spells like Stoneskin and Ichi.
Question on track with this thread~
+5 Magic Acc or +5 INT for Bind? Morrigan's Cuffs or Yigit Gages?
Belkin stated perfect Bind set-up and had Yigit listed, just wondering if maybe he overlooked Morrigan's gear.
btw, amazing LJ, it will help to fine tune my gear. Leveled RDM just for soloing and been doing pretty well so far even without the luxaries of af2 or full merits. Trying to get Faust down but I need just a bit more stuff and work, everything else has been pretty easy~
I'd probably use Morrigan's if I had them, but I use Duelist +1 gloves for bind at the moment.
I use Yigit, but if I had Morrigan's, I would use that instead.
I would use Morrigan's if I had them, I totally overlooked Salvage gear because I didn't start doing it until recently. There are a bunch of little nitpicks here and there, mostly just stuff I forgot or overlooked.![]()
Thanks! It's still a good read, lol.
How do you solo Faust? Pull with bow and kite in porter room? Im mostly wondering about the pulling part ._.Originally Posted by Judai
He aggroes sight, so when you use powder boots (gives you flee) he will aggro you, and you start booking it back to the room.
Read Belkin's LJ for full details, lol. I use Powder Boots personally~ only got him to 40% before getting beat down though.
Holy shit, nice LJ
Bind + Hand piece: I use Nashira Gages, cuz I has no Morrigan CuffsOr Master Caster's Bracelets if they work in that region.
This thread makes me want to have job specific forums in here!
The only thing I do differently than most is not liking Bio III capped, but then again I have less MP to spend for an extra 400 damage over 10 minutes for an extra 170 MP, and needing to cast it more often than Bio II. If you really want the fights to go a few minutes faster go for it, otherwise I'd spend the 12 merit points on other stuff.
I personally like having higher Slow II/Para II, on the 'ohshit' moments I've had soloing(getting caught w/ Ice Break vs. Zip, etc.) they've saved my ass. Then again you only intend to solo as RDM so maybe it'd be worth it for you. I'm an Elv w/o Dalmatica, Chapeau, W. Legs, or any Morrigan's and I've been able to take down Zip/SC so far(thanks for the strats, Belkin), trying Faust next.
A little tip for those bad situations where Zip lands an Ice Break on you:
Cast bind on him and then spam switch gear and inch away until you are out of his melee range. Hopefully the bind won't last too long on you (though sometimes it will), but you can just do it again. I usually keep slow II + paralyze on Zip in case this happens, so he doesn't tear down shadows and stoneskin before you can do anything.
Haha, unfortunately as Elv w/ a normal 3/tick I don't really have the luxury of keeping both on full time, but Para II definitely saved the day when it happened, it proc'd like all hell, I got hit 2-3 times and took enough to break Bind, then it proc'd plenty enough for me to get shadows back up and rebind. Probably the only time I've been really glad to be an Elvaan RDM, I survived that with 15 hp, Taru would've bitten it. :rocl:

Most of the targets in this thread are the kiting-type... If you want to learn how to melee solo the best, ignore all evasion gear (RDM's don't need to evade lower stuff, and don't evade higher stuff) and learn to play RDM/NIN without Utsusemi.
The latter is very important, too many look to a max-hasted RDM/NIN as a shadow-spamming machine. It helps against *certain* targets, but they are very few in number. When I played I preferred /NIN only for Blau/Joy(Justice) fun.
Melee solo the best without Utsusemi, for solo? >_> Maybe I don't see what you're getting at. For any serious solo, you are probably not going to be meleeing, since it's not very effective in most cases of the tougher things a RDM will solo, not withstanding stuff like Ceremonial Dagger + Enspells or w/e, which you still want Utsusemi for.Originally Posted by Raineer
Regardless, things that you can do that to, you still want Utsusemi for, and would probably get beat to death with anything but /NIN if you're in melee range. Not trying to pick a fight, but I don't get what you're sayingI'm slow sometimes.
I'm saying get some skill before you start spamming utsu as /NIN. Timing as a RDM is everything.but I don't get what you're saying
idk, while they get the job done I never saw the long DOT kills as "skill", it was more of a battle with your bladder than anything. That being said, I also understand your point.
Keep in mind, my post is directed at the OP who is a RDM70, not to someone who is already soloing triggers.
You can actually solo Voluptuous Vivian with Ceremonial Dagger and some luck...
