FFXI Stuttering

recently I had a problem with the game where it was choppy every other second .. it was stuttering. Very annoying my fps would be like 29.9 then drop to 26.9 in mog house and then back up. doing nothing but standing there.

In the end I reinstalled the entire game and it fixed the problem. Not exactly the quickest solution but the game is running smoother then ever. I assume there was some corruption somewhere in the game engine.

i'm having the exact same issue as above. every few seconds the game stutters, fps dropping from 29.whatever to 26, and "pausing" the game for a split second (just video, audio continues as normal).

i have a 7900GT, and this seems to have happened after installing newer drivers (i don't remember this happening when i played a few weeks ago, and the only thing i can think of that i've changed is a. 1gb more ram, and b. drivers). i've tried installing older drivers, but nothing has helped so far.

anyone have any ideas/questions? i don't want to reinstall

Just to narrow down your issue, try disabling your anti-virus software then run the game and see if it still stutters. If it does, remove your anti-virus, reboot and try again. If the problem goes away, get an upgrade or switch to a different anti-virus. I wouldn't recommend running your computer without one. I had this same problem under Windows Vista with Trend-Micro Internet Security 2007. Strangely, under Windows XP, it did not stutter at all with this anti-virus product. Just Vista + PC-Cillin 2007. And it would still stutter if I disabled it, but the problem would go away if I uninstalled it.

thanks for tryin', but that didn't do anything :\ i'm on vista as well, and have been for many months, and anti-virus has never been a problem with ffxi

however, by some stroke of luck, i had to unplug my keyboard for different reasons this morning, and there was 0 stuttering when it was removed. plugged it back in, and back to the same problem. it's a g15, and i did have that issue awhile back when FPS dropped significantly due to what keyboard you had plugged in. any ideas?

I don't have that keyboard. I remember when this stuttering issue first came about and SE "patched" it. Apparently it's still causing a problem for you. Try disabling HID-compliant devices in the device manager? I wouldn't know what else to suggest besides maybe trying a newer (or older) driver for the G15.

although it stinks it's functions need to be disabled.. oh well.
