Re: Shark vs Bear survival discussion thread

I'd take the bear in a second.

*It's hard to say you can just punch the shark in the face. You would have to rely on the shark coming, at least partially, above water to have a chance at hitting it hard enough. How the fuck are you going to see the shark clearly, for one? Most water isn't crystal clear, and even if it is, images are distorted in water.

Good fucking luck hitting a shark underwater(where you move painfully slow if trying to punch anyway, you couldn't even scare me away punching me underwater, much less a shark trying to eat you). I'm assuming this isn't a 2-4 foot shark either. It's at least something that if you punch is going to have forward movement before going backwards with wide-open jaws of DOOM.

*We can likely all run faster than we can swim. I doubt the bear can run 100yards in 3 seconds, thats ridiculous even at top speed.

*If we got caught by both in each given situation, I'd rather be beaten into unconsciousness rather than eaten and digested alive. (Or left has half a torso floating)

We are often soft and sedentary, but when you are fighting for survival, fingers, heels, knuckles, knees, and elbows are nasty bony things, and we have sharp teeth.

Plus, I can make sharpened sticks and bone or stone knives.

Even though you say that, all things considered there a LOT of things that could kill and rape us. The only reason humans are at the top of the food chain is because we don't have to rely on those things you listed in order to survive. We rely mostly on intelligence (to make things etc).

You aren't a tough guy because you take a picture of yourself holding up a massive bear's claw that you snuck on and shot from a distance.
What about that old Canadian man who killed a bear with a pocket knife? Is that tough?

As for the speed issue, however fast the bear runs, you only have to be at least half as fast. So as long as you're confident you can run faster than half the bear's speed, you could get away from the bear.

I'd like to kill a bear with a knife just to be badass and say I did it, plus having a bear clock with your head coming out of the mouth would be cool to have, so it wouldn't just be a decoration.

And you guys forgot fetal position, duh

I'd go with the bear though, because if all else I'd just jump through the window of the cabin and find whatever's inside to fend off the bear if it's trying to reach through.

I'd take the shark for sure. Even if it started to get close, couldn't I like, jump over top of it, or something?

Re: Shark vs Bear survival discussion thread

how are you going to jump even remotely high in three feet of water?

I'll take the bear; boy scouts has taught me bears are easy to circumvent, especially if there is a descent. Bears' front feet are shorter than their back feet, so if you're on a hill going down and they're at top speed, they are likely to start rolling, its almost like if we ran on all fours. Uphill you are fucked though.

I'm taking the bear for sure. What the hell are you planning on doing in 3 ft of water? Can't run in that and you can't out swim a shark...

This is of course assuming they are coming after you and your only option is running.

originally i would have probably gone for the shark with the low level of water, however after realizing that i can run at a good speed, i think i'd have a better chance vs the bear as long as the cabin was unlocked.

I'm taking the bear. The reason being that unlike the rest of you cowards, I'm taking it on. And I'll build up a lot more speed in my 30-40 meter dash to torpedo kick then I would swimming at the shark.

Better be a decently built cabin. I think a bear could crash right through the door if running at speed.. if not, could pound away at it for a while.

First of all..What the hell is a "bear expert"?

I'd definitely take on the shark. First of all, who can really ever say you'd be safe in the cabin? A shark can't sprout legs and chase you on the shore.

Maybe this shark will evolve legs super fast and sprint faster than a bear at you.

The answer is so obvious if you live by a few simple rules in your life, and keep in mind I live in Alaska so I do deal with bears.

Rule 1: If there's a bear in the woods.. my ass isn't in the woods.

Rule 2: If there's a shark in the water... my ass sure as hell isn't in the water. WTF would I be doing in the water anyways? that shits like 30 degree's up here.
