In my town our 9th grade is in the Jr. High School but they count all the classes and credits towards our high school graduation making it our freshman year.

We did K-5 as Elementary, 6-8 in middle school (it's now 6-7 middle and 8-9 junior high) and then 9-12 in HS here in Michigan where I grew up.

NY has most middle schools go from 7-9, but it depends on where you go to as the HS can accomidate from 9-12.

Well yes and no.

Completing year 10 gets you a "School certificate" - lets you into most trade jobs (plumbing electrician etc), Completing year 12 gets you a "Higher school certificate" which lets you get into university and some other private courses.

Basically blue collar work = finish at 10th grade For everything else, there's mastercard.
