I'm not very computer literate so can you please explain a bit more? HDD means hard drive am I right? And as for reformat don't you need the CDs or something that first came with the computer? Because I lost that lol, also when you say safety programs, is Spybot enough or would you recommend another?

If you want to reformat and you dont know shit about computers, you need some recovery disks, as well as potentially a driver disk. cause some shit just isnt out there, apparently (but as it seems while you cant order spare parts for 2 year old laptops, you can download their drivers on the manufacturers website. fuck you HP and your useless junk laptops)

at the same time, I would suggest instead of reformatting just to install it to your shoddy next gen systems. PS3, Xbawks, etc. if you think its just too much work.

whut? a virus can only be attached to executables, or a file containing executable code. mp3's and wma's are just streamed data to whatever music player you use, although, wma's can have redirect URL's in them, so i tend to stay away from them anyway.

In theory, there should be perfect separation of executable code and data. In practice, there are times when the line can be breeched -- buffer overflows, data type errors, and such. Generally, data files are much, much safer than executables, and on the rare occasions a flaw is found, it tends to be quickly publicized and patched.

Also be careful about classifying something as purely data -- some companies blur the distinction between the two, with data formats that have executable-like features. Microsoft is famous for doing this a lot.

Does anyone know if accounts can be rolled back prior to a 60 day duration when they were hacked? This GM (called a few days ago on the phone) told me that accounts can only be rolled back if they were hacked in the last 60 days. I'm really confused about this because another GM told me it doesn't matter when they were hacked, just as long as they still have the data - and if they can restore the character I'd imagine they can roll it back. Anyone know anything about this? I really hate having to hear 2 sides from the same company that are pretty much totally different.

You can rollback your character to any date you choose as long as:
- It's the correct date of the hacking (ie: don't lie about your hacking date or give them false date to get advantage of items you sold/traded)
- It's not over a year ago.

So put in my brother compromised account request at SE about august 2007 got the initial e mail but never the second one with the notary form so a friend forwarded his notary form e mail to me this month. would i be able to send it with all the info even if SE didn't physically send me the notary e mail? sorry if this question was already answered in the past 24 pages.

also after you send in the form how long does it usually take for you to get an e mail with your password? its about to be the 2 year mark so yeah kind of getting tired of all of this.

I was hacked almost 2 years ago. I canceled my account after I was told nothing could be done. Apparently they only keep logs for 1 year for each character, so I'm wondering is there anything I could do about this? My character was deleted and it was unable to be restored 2 years ago, so what I'm thinking is that for them to have 1 year of logs, it would be impossible for them to have logs on a character that did not exist (deleted) so there was nothing to log for that entire time. So they SHOULD have information from 1 year prior to when the character was deleted right?

Does this make sense to anyone or am I just thinking weird? Also, anyone know a friend or person that has been in the same boat I am and has some tips for me on getting my stuff back. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey Guys. I got my account compromised in August of 2007. I filed for a Compromised account around April or may of 2008 Got an Email asking me to call and give my ISP and then after that got no response for a whole year. i didn't call frequently i guess due to i thought i'd give them there time which eventually resulted in me not caring anymore. Around 3 weeks ago i called them cause i heard they begin to become more lenient about there policies on resetting the password. Well apparently they weren't and just put me through the compromised accounts list again. So i was like Fuck this and just downloaded the Notarization form and sent it in. Is there a High chance i wont get my account back?

I frequent modding/ffxipron sites, download whatever with an old version of AVG, and spybot because i havent felt like removing it. did shut off teatimer though.

I still havent been hacked. i did manage a keylogger though . . . from 4clams, funny story, it was a commercial keylogger - and he didnt know how to get it off my computer, so he emailed me, from my own gmail to get me to remove it.
apparently we dont see eye to eye in what people like. got his IP, googled it and found his email, emailed him back and sent a bunch of shocker site pics.

I'm a gigantic pervert. but i'm happy that way (maybe nobody wants to steal my account because its dirty?)

so, in my experience, 'chill out' is all i can say as far as passwords go. the worst thats gonna happen is you'll get your life back. oh shit right?

As a company, we have access to older records for other procedures that are not relevant to this issue. As policy, we do not reference previous information for verification. anyone know a way around this evil little clause?

I quit the game last year around this time and forgot to cancel my account. I wasn't getting charged so i assumed my brother did it for me. I started a new account 6 months ago and was able to get the same name on the same server which confused me. I attempted to log on my old account soon after and found out my password was no longer working. Called up SE, they told me the account has been active the entire year i was gone and it's on another server, so the guy froze the account for me. waiting/need to check my emails for the next step with the verification to call them in again.

For the second time now I was cut off before my questions could be addressed when talking to the support center online.

He gave me the:

And I was kicked out of the conversation. Has anyone else had this problem when dealing with them online? It seems that they feel since it's less personal than a phone call they can do this and it's ok. They wouldn't hang up on you, but damn they're fast to boot you from an online conversation.

The reason I didn't call is out of principal. They don't have a toll free number. Does anyone else find that absolutely ridiculous given the amount of revenue generated by this game?

It's been over two weeks since my form was sent, yet they say it hasn't been received. It sure as hell hasn't been returned to me. The only logical conclusion I can come to is that it was mishandled and lost at their offices, yet now they suggest I cough up the money to send it via certified mail. My blood is boiling.

Hi. Two years ago I had the account stolen, everything dropped, stuff sold, server transfer thing happen, and at the time, there was supposively nothing that could be done to recover anything. I just learned, however, of the rollback program. I called SE, and was told that my account could be undeleted and my character levels, crafts, missions, etc. would be restored, but that since it has been over one year, they could not get any items back. Were they pretty serious about that? Or is it possible for them to rollback to before I had the compromised account and that guy just didn't want to help?

I've had that. Years and years ago I somehow managed to corrupt a zone dat (to this day, no idea how) and, not knowing what it was until much later, I tried the chat help to see if it was something on my end or what. The guy basically told me, "Oh, there's some vague, not-really-similar problem with something unrelated, and we're getting inundated with calls about it so I'm going to have to cut you off now." No attempt at resolution, just the equivalent to an automated message and a kick from the conversation.

It was, of course, utter bullshit, and if they tried that these days I'd have the wherewithall to see about complaining about it.

Ok, I'd like to add my dilemma in here as well as the 1000 others who are obviously going through what I am.

My character was Foshizzle of Ramuh, at the end of August I was hacked somehow (with token) and a really nice amount of gil was taken, and on the way out the guy deleted my main character. Foshizzle was nothing extremelly awesome, 6 75's, and stage4 dagger, but I have had the char since Aug. of 03, so losing it has sucked serious ass.

But moving on, 2 months ago I applied for the "Game Data Recovery" service. I have spent 2 miserable, grueling months sending the form in, and having them tell me that they have not recieved it. But finally, yesterday I recieve an email notifying me that they have recieved my form, and have finished GDR. So i get fucking hyped and go to log on, and what do i find?

Nothing has been done, my main character is still gone, and none of the gil returned to my mules. I have told them that they made a mistake and forgot to do anything, and they replied "Sir, once you have Game Data Recovery done once, it cannot be done again". They did, absolutely, fucking nothing. You would think that any long standing veteran player of this game would receive atleast a scrap of customer service.

This said, I cannot play ffxi anymore due to the incompetencies of the people who work at SE. I know alot of others are dealing with this same bullshit, and I know the bullshit you are going through. Lets hope that in 14 they hire people who give a fuck
