I'll take book to movie over childhood cartoon to movie any day. Like Transformers; had nothing to do with the show I remember as a kid, but even if it was completely true to the show, I wouldn't want to watch it because it's a kids show. I'm tired of hollywood dressing up shitty movies as old franchises in an attempt to capitalize on my generation's nostalgia.

Surely I didn't imagine the Harry Potter, Dr. Seuss, and Narnia movies released recently.

Call me crazy, but I thought it looked interesting. The visual aspect look well done and have the "old cartoon" feeling to it. Story is probably going to be simple, but that doesn't mean it will be bad.

Did you bother watching the trailer before making such comment? What's so "adult" about this trailer? Movie is rated general, no blood, nothing sexual (so far). Maybe it's kung-fu scene that bother you that much? People always complain about kid tv show being pussified, there is nothing wrong about having a fight here and there.

The one that played when I saw Golden Compass last week? I think it was either this one or a slightly longer version of that. I mostly forgot about the stuff with the fat kid and the monkey at the end, but other than that it looked mostly serious.

It does feel cartoony (which it kinda should, being adapted from a '60s anime and all), but that doesn't mean "kid movie" to me (being a weeaboo might have something to do with that). Just think of it as being campy and formulaic, and you might enjoy it anyway.

Just saw the movie this morning and i must say its excellent. The visual effects are really good i enjoy the whole movie and like some old post here says its a family movie, cant say it follows the anime story but the story was good.

Just saw the movie this morning and i must say its excellent. The visual effects are really good i enjoy the whole movie and like some old post here says its a family movie, cant say it follows the anime story but the story was good.

First off, holy shit badass sig.

Second, Speed Racer had one of the thinnest fucking 'stories' you could give to any anime ever. Racing family divided over older brother crashing racing car, younger brother brought up and meets mysterious racer who MIGHT be his estranged older brother. Racing happens. Identity Exposed. More Racing happens due to shenanigans by gallery of rogues. Race concludes.

This movie's going to be a hugely superficial affair. If you like splashy effects and couldn't give a shit about storytelling or acting I guess you'll like it. I'd estimate your chances of enjoying it as equal to those of you owning the 2nd Matrix film.
