Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

    Level 44 bard, Sterling Star:

Started Campaign in Vunkerl Inlet. Cast Mage's Ballad after two minutes and then turned in my tags. Got 12 xp and 10 allied notes.

Sooooo, looks like it's 60% xp at whatever level range I fall under.

Edit: Mage's ballad hit me and two other people, all San d'Orian in Jugner forest: 36 xp and 30 allied notes.

I tested out the 'EXP cap' a little. I used 5 buff spells within the first minute of receiving tags, worth 20EXP and 10AN each, let the tags run for about 2 minutes and that gave 100 EXP and 50 AN. That would have capped at 65 EXP and 50 AN had I let the tags run for only 1 minute. As expected per Wizerds post, EXP gained has a 'roll over' effect. I also casted Refresh, and let 3 minutes pass to see if the initial 20 EXP and 10 AN would increase, it did not.

So what is the cap per minute? This is what I found out so far:

For First Star: (in Jugnar, owned by Sandy)
    1st minute: 65 EXP
    2nd minute: 135 EXP
    3rd minute: 200 EXP
    4th minute: 270 EXP

So, as time passes you do get little bonuses added to the cap. I'll try to hit the cap for more intervals.

Action performed: Getting hit by Battle Dance, receiving DEX down (I took 68 damage)
Earned: 5 EXP and 3 AN
Great! Now I don't have to do this. Thanks for posting, this is really good info.

Did a little bit of Damage testing and to see what SAM's JA would yield

    Sam JA Test
Allied Nation: Bastok (6 zones under control)
Campaign Battle: North Gutsaberg (Bastok has control)
    Medal: 3rd Star
    Job: SAM/THF, level 75
Campaign status: Music started, NPCs and mobs present
    Test Durations: 65 seconds

    Used Ability: Meditate
Earned: 20 EXP and 10 AN

    Used Ability: Seigan
Earned: 20 EXP and 10 AN

    Used Ability: Third Eye
Earned: 20 EXP and 10 AN

    Tag Turned in:
Earned: 60 XP and 30 AN

    Damage Test
Allied Nation: Bastok (6 zones under control)
Campaign Battle: Fort K-N (Windy has control)
    Medal: 3rd Star
    Job: SAM/THF, level 75
Campaign status: Music started, NPCs and mobs present
    Test Durations: 75 seconds

    Hit a Yagudo for 130

    Yagudo misses

    Tag Turned in:
Earned: 15 XP and 9 AN

So I bet it's safe to say for each 10 points of damage dealt is 1 XP/0.5 AN and if a mob misses you 2 XP/ 1 AN

I'm gonna go ahead and say no, and post the results I had a few days ago.

Damage Testing - None of these tests have me getting hit, and all are within the 60-119 second tag duration that caps me out at 60 EXP. Tests done in Rolanberry Fields (S) on normal quadavs. Misses and 0s were not counted as hits but instead listed as additional swings in parenthesis. Critical hits listed in parenthesis are part of the # of hits.

    5 Exp / 4 AN - 1 hit, 48 damage total
    30 Exp / 16 AN - 2 hits, 130 damage total (1 critical hit)
    55 Exp / 29 AN - 4 hits, 200 damage total (1 critical hit, 2 misses, 1 hit for 0)
    55 Exp / 29 AN - 6 hits, 213 damage total, (1 critical hit, 1 miss)
    60 Exp / 36 AN - 7 hits, 302 damage total, (1 critical hit)
    60 Exp / 37 AN - 4 hits, 170 damage total, (1 critical hit, 1 miss, 4 hits for 0)
60 Exp / 64 AN - 10 hits, 491 damage total, (4 critical hits), plus used Sneak Attack & Trick Attack to see if they were a separate Exp counter and would exceed the 60 Exp cap; they didn't.
    60 Exp / 64 AN - 21 hits, 875 damage total, (3 hits for 0)

    Additional:
60 Exp / 46 AN - 5 hits, 253 damage total, (3 critical hits), including being hit once for 86 damage.

60 Exp / 64 AN appears to be the cap. No clue what to make of the damage testing except that hits for 0 seem to count nearly as much as normal hits, and it's not based on the damage you've done necessarily, but more your swings. (Notice from lowest to highest, my total hits including 0s but discluding misses go 1 > 2 > 5 > 6 > 7 > 8 > 10 & 24)

Next test would be with a Ceremonial Dagger, I think, hitting mobs for 0 constantly and seeing what it yields.

60 EXP melee cap per mob... so the best way to gain EXP as a melee is just to hit one mob 3-4 times, then move on to the next? lol

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

I used to go to campaign as nin/dnc all the time because of the survivability to it, but recently been going as nin/war and just going all out DD. My XP/AN amount has gone up by over 50% since i started doing this, trying to tank as nin/dnc is hard due to limited DMG output, and now as /war i've noticed i'm tanking whether i want to or not.

On a really happy note, when i went /war and just went nuts, i ended up with a following of a few DD's and some casters, a melee rdm hasting/healing me and a whm doing the same. Was pretty nice to see organization and team work =)

not sure i really hit ny more or less, but definately do more dmg.

@Wizerd and Metah, what the conclusions from test ignores, is that you are being capped by time rather than capped by points earned.
For instance where you did 7 hits for 60/36, that would have been 70/36 had you left tags on longer, and similarly for the other high values where the exp wasn't roughly twice the AN earned.

Someone pointed out this link in the thread about how lower level influences your exp award, and which would be a good reference to check against when testing in this thread as well (not suggesting it be taken as gospel, but just used to weigh against the results people find here). http://ff11wiki.rdy.jp/2026067319.html I don't speak or read japanese, but from what I've managed to glean from using translation tools, they are suggesting that your pre-timecap point award is both a % of your damage which doesn't cap, as well as function of the time you are engaged which does, which I think would best explain the results Wizerd got as well.

That would tie in with my "strategy" on thief. I'm trying not to pull too much hate on anything so I generally sit back and spam acid bolts on mobs. I'll hit a mob 2-3 times then pick another. When I have tp or sneak attack up i'll run in to a different mob.

This seems to be rewarding me fairly well, though I'm not hitting cap. (68 thf)

You must be the luckiest person in the universe, or else I am just on an extremely uncooperative server. I go as PLD/war and tank everything I can. Usually what happens is, I struggle to stay alive right until I run out of mp, and then I get beat to death, while 25 people "assist" me by pounding on the mob without any cures or buffs sent my way. Then, once I die, they all scatter and pray that the mob picks someone else to attack so they can leech some more DD xp at someone else's expense. Maybe I get a raise, maybe I don't. I've begun blisting people in campaign now.

But, enough about my gripes. I have a little data, though it isn't as semi-scientific as some of these others. One thing I haven't seen here yet is tests on curing. During one campaign I arrived late and managed to cast cures totaling roughly 365 hp. Campaign then ended and I received 34 xp. Obviously this is completely unscientific and anecdotal, but it suggested a nearly 10:1 ratio of hp cured to xp gained. This might explain why it is hard to get xp doing cures, especially when you add in the fact that there may be a per-minute cap for xp.

The question I have is whether this is a per/minute cap, i.e. you can get 65 each minute, or whether the cap is a total time in campaign. For example, if I do nothing the first minute, can I do twice as much the second minute to compensate? Or does it treat each minute separately?

If each minute is calculated separately, it definitely makes me rethink how I do some things in campaign. As a PLD I may be more likely to save some /ja or mp so I can spread out my actions over a longer period of time. Anyone have more insight on how this works?

Finally, here's a thing that happened to me last night, which can be seen as an accidental test. I got my tags, walked about 15 feet, and Jagdbod's Warmachine blasted me with an AoE for 1485 damage, killing me. While I was dead, the battle ended. Thus, the only action I took was to eat 1485 points of damage and die. It took a couple of minutes to get a raise, so I was past the xp timer; when I raised, I received 95 xp. It should be noted that I am now {Silver Star || }. This suggests a couple things. In Jayd's test, he mentioned he was on the first star, with a cap of 65 xp. It seems unlikely that the cap would jump from 65 to 95 for just one rank. Thus it would be reasonable to assume that a) it doesn't, in fact, cap each individual minute, otherwise I would have only gotten 65 (or 70 perhaps) for taking that damage, and b) you get a pretty decent amount of xp for taking damage.

Yeah I saw that, but then at the conclusion it seemed to suggest that the 60 cap was related to what was done too, so sorry if I misread that part.

The time cap seems to be based on the total time with tags, probably looking at # of seconds with them, multiplying by the modifier based on your highest medal, and then rounding to the nearest multiple of 5 (or maybe always rounding down or up). So yes, you could do nothing for the first minute and then a lot of stuff the 2nd minute and get the same amount over a 2min long battle as you would if you'd spread it out. As for the amount the cap increases, that link I posted above suggests it goes up by 2 points per minute per medal, which conforms to my observations as well.

    # of minutes actually, as Jayd suggested. Your cap is never based on seconds. It increases by a certain amount based on your rank every full minute of being in Campaign.

For example, at my rank, my cap is 60 for anywhere from 60 seconds in Campaign to 119 seconds. The reason for my two tests that went well over 60 Exp/64 AN was to see if it'd go up by being in for about 110 seconds, and it didn't.

@ Vhess: Were you in Campaign for more than 120 seconds before it ended, including dead time? If not, you should have capped out between 60 and 70 Exp, or alternatively death could extend the time your tags have.

Edit: Also, when did I ever suggest 60 Exp per mob? What I suggested was that based on my rank, I was capping out at 60 Exp per minute in Campaign. Try getting your tags, then attacking 3 or 4 mobs if you can (without getting hate on any), do a little damage to each, and turn in your tags before 120 seconds in Campaign. You should still cap out at 60 with a Ribbon or 65 with a Star (or higher, but under 75).

I wasn't aware of the time restrictions when this happened last night, so I wasn't timing it. I am pretty confident that I was killed less than 60 seconds after getting my tag; but I'm not sure how long I was dead before campaign ended. It was pretty close to 120 seconds total, I'm just not sure which side it well on. Sorry I can't be more specific; if it happens again I will pay closer attention.

One thing I am curious about is how pets affect xp. If I am a BST, for instance, and I have my pet attack without actually engaging or doing anything else, how much xp would I get for my pet's actions? It may be possible to test this best with DRG. If You had your wyvern out prior to the start of campaign, you could unequip weapons, engage, and then move out of range. This would allow your pet to attack without you actually doing any damage or /ja. You would still get in one swing and miss, but otherwise it would be pure pet damage determining your xp output. If I have a chance I will try to test this later.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Doing Garlaige regularly I can tell you that exp is not rewarded per minute that I've ever experienced.

Often times you will have periods before the mobs arrive, and after you kill some mobs from one wave and have to run down to the Fortification to get the others. These long stretches give the tag time to accumulate past the per minute cap, even if you're not doing anything during them.

Easy way I can see this, Im hanging out at the NPC, fight starts, I get tags asap, within seconds of the battle starting.

I run out and lurk along the path the mobs run, I wait a few minutes, sometimes 5-10 minutes before the mobs get there when the battle starts due to NPC's repairing the Fort.

I grab one, kill it, takes 5-10 minutes depending on the mob usually, follow their path down to the Fortifications, grab any survivors without NPC's linked to them if possible, beat it down. Watch for other waves, often having downtime periods of several minutes before the next wave arrives, then another couple of battles. Repeat this for say 4 waves without dying or having to dodge morons training mobs to you, and it's pretty simple to get 2000-3000 Exp.

One mob from one wave, even sitting around doing nothing for 5 or 10 minutes will generally net about 1500 exp, some weaker ones are 1200-1300, tougher ones 1700-1800.

Yet, if I get to GC, get my tags as there is a battle going on right there, grab a mob and solo it, I find myself getting like 700exp/705 AN and whatnot, same amount of work done beating the same mob down that usually gives me twice that, but the tags only had 10 or 11 minutes to accumulate so I was capped on Exp.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

    New development~

On my wife's level 56 Scholar, I cast bar-spells non stop for 2 minutes, and was rewarded with 104 Exp (I previously tested this to be 52 Exp in 1 minute). Then I tried for 3 minutes, and ended up getting 120 Exp.

I was curious, and then next battle I was fortunate enough to get aggro, hit a few times, and then the NPCs took it off me. So I let the tag run 3 minutes, capped out my Exp from bar-spells to 120, then Cured myself up, and I got my expected 156 Exp from 3 minutes.

Incredibly confused and curious, I waited in Pashhow for another one to start. When it did, I got my tags, started a timer, and ran off to the sides casting Barspells as MP would allow it. Well over 10-15 rounds of the 6 elements, and I went back just after 10 minutes to turn them in: 120 Exp.

So apparently, self-buffs cap out at 120 Exp / 75 AN (At lv56 at least).

This deters the idea of being able to sit there and buff for great Exp, as you'll need to damage things or cure or tank in order to get anything higher, which is good in a sense but sucks for easy Exp, haha.

Now, what we need to know is, does the buffs cap accumulate for other people?

Hopefully it does, so you could go around spamming protect/shell on people and get that exp for each person.

I' kind of lazy when it comes to BLM, though i have the gear to test this, but has any BLM's with a -HP macro to trigger latent on Sorc. ring ever try doing this then healingh themselves, then trigger low HP again and just repeat over and over? may be a pretty easy way to test a cure's XP value in under a minute?

Interesting thought there, though I think the system factors when a mob is actually hitting you/missing/being parried/utsu'D. I would assume that you'd get "empty" cure points, just the pure Cures themselves, not what you'd get if you had taken the damage from a monster.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

I checked out the link that was posted. I don't understand any JP, so I used lolbabelfish, so what I read could have been wrong.

Wizerd, they did have a table with self buffs and said that they did cap out at 150 EXP (for level 75). Also as someone on the first page found, earnings do depend on level, 46-60 earn 80% of the total. Buffing on others, according to them caps at 300 EXP, and songs also cap at 300.

They also have a table with exp earned per minute basis, then they show how much u could get in 15, 30, and 60 minute intervals. However those results do not match what I experienced. What they did was take the exp cap for the first minute (which I also can not confirm, I always get 65 cap which they do not have listed) then simply multiply it by the amount of minutes that tags are present. Whereas for my results I got:

    1rst minute: 65 (+65)
    2nd minute: 135 (+70)
    3rd minute: 200 (+65)
    4th minute: 270 (+70)

To me there are clearly some little 'bonus exp' added as time passes. I can't say that this trend continues as it is shown though. The JP thread is good to read and compare to but it doesn't seem completely accurate yet. They do have one very interesting 'action' listed, which translates to recovery with cap at 500 EXP at 10% of the total recovery. Maybe that means we get points for resting our MP and HP back? This would be very easy for me to test with convert.

I'm going to edit the OP this weekend to organize what we've found since a few people are asking things that are already scattered through this thread.
