Interesting thought there, though I think the system factors when a mob is actually hitting you/missing/being parried/utsu'D. I would assume that you'd get "empty" cure points, just the pure Cures themselves, not what you'd get if you had taken the damage from a monster.
You could have another person heal you so because the heal would be empty when you heal yourself, but ppl heal other people all the time, i wouldn't think that healing others wouldn't mattern the reason to HP not being capped (sorry if that doesnt make sence cant think how to say it better)

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

    Another interesting theory to test:

Last night I did 2-3 campaigns as WHM/NIN with a handful of others in a PT so we were comparing exp points earned.

Both of the very long runs (we were in Jugner) with each NM (Ander, Bagkodek, Gudrud, Warmachine, etc), I was the first to actually see the incoming mobs from the west as there were fairly low numbers in the zone and everyone was waiting south or at the tower.

Both times I died to the 20+ mobs on me chasing me as I ran them to the tower, being the first person they saw and all. I died multiple times actually, was concerned I was going to have low points because I had a lot of down time.

In one fight, one of our NINs pulled a BUNCH of the peons and kited them for ages, and a BRD lullabyed them numerous times. Outside of my initial scouting pull, I just fought one at a time, did minimal curing because my MP was often too low from rebuffing after unweakened, etc. Raised very few people; tanked one or two on my own for a good portion of their HP.

In the other fight, one of our SAMs kited Steelbiter and a couple peons for nearly 10 minutes etc while other things were killed off and everyone could concentrate on it. This fight I was killed by seeing all the mobs first; then killed by Bagkodek when he showed up and ran in behind me, then by Anders when he literally popped on top of me.

In both of these fights, I got 2000+ exp.. as WHM/NIN. And my melee friends, even those who had hate on multiple targets at a time, didn't break 1800-1900.

So I think perhaps being first to spot/see/get aggro on a newly arrived/popped mob might also increase your EXP? That sort of bonus would encourage "scouting," as I have heard that on some other servers, people just hang out at the towers (on Odin, everyone runs off looking for them). So I would have gotten a huge increase being the ONLY person to be seen by all the mobs first when no one else was around.

It was the only explanation I could think of, especially with all the downtime I had, as none of the others had died as much as I had, and had to rest etc.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...mpaign2000.jpg

EDIT: Just got 1055 limit points off another campaign where I arrived late, immediately got aggro from the mob of orcs that popped with Bagkodek, died, rested and raised people for 10 minutes, only hit maybe 3 mobs total. So, yeah, still believing this theory. :D

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

I have much better luck as my 67 rdm than my 75 smn with merits getting xp. Even with doing 2k damage BPs I still come up pretty much shafted most of the time.

    According to http://blog.ddffxi.com/...

"Cannot get points for the following actions.

Regular - Weapon Skill, Range Attack, Pet Commands"

    Pet Commands.....
    Pet Commands.....

    ....

    /sigh

Is there any other smn out there that has had it better than I have? Perhaps a little advice? Atm, I'm lost as to what to do besides being a cure whore. I think it's pretty f'ed up that smn get shafted in merit parties, and now, get shafted in campaign?

Am I doing something wrong? Or am I justified in being emo?

I've read the thread and it seems the ones tanking in campaign don't like others giving mob tp, but what choices do us mages have? According to the jp site, each attack gives 5 xp, and takes a delay that is alot less than what a spell would be casting, AND doesn't use any mp, so no need to rest...

I like campaign alot, it gives me xp I wouldn't get otherwise, but when melee still get merit pts, AND get more xp in campaign more easily than us mages who kinda are forced to use this as our meritpos, well, I think it's time SE did a bit of "balencing"....

I must admit, everytime I see someone in /say saying {Cure} please, I die a little inside. Even more so, those blu/drk that don't set wild carrot or magic fruit, relying on blood drain to keep them alive. If I tab over while meleeing and see someone needing a cure, I cure them, but I'm not forced too one bit, nor do I appreciate someone showing up who can't take care of themselves, expecting others to keep them alive. I don't expect everyone to sub whm or dnc, but when everyone shows up expecting others to keep them alive, I can only laugh when one aoe wipes them all.

You don't have to invite smn for tp burns, and smn don't have to keep you alive in campaign. Karma maybe? Everyone wants the most xp they can get, including the mages...

Didn't they make it so damage your pet does is added to your total? So maybe pet commands give you nothing, but bloodpacts do?

Actually, this makes sense that Campaign awards exp on building enmity. Pulling initial hate gives you a free spike if you're the inital "pull" aggro.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

If outside source is not welcomed, feel free to remove this post. I also take no responsibility in the accuracy of the information, and yes, it's just players posted information, so it can be off at times.

    Source(JP wiki): http://ff11wiki.rdy.jp/2026067319.html#z86c536a
-Even if magic is resisted, there will still be points.
-Any action toward players with no Allied Tag will not gain you any point.
-"Miss" or "No effect" will result in no point.
-Your EXP/AN earned will be the total of all the point evaluations listed below.
-There is a time-related cap for each category.[If I understand right]
*There are some other points that I couldn't make much sense out of, someone that understand Japanese better can finish those bit if they think it's helpful.*

    1 point = 1 EXP and 1/2 AN
    Buff(self)
    Per cast: 20p
    Cap: 150
Note: This includes ability buffs(Boost, Berserk, etc)

    Buff(Others & NPC)
    Per cast: 10p
    Cap: 300

    Buff(song)
    Per cast: 20p x number of member(1-6)
    Cap: 300

    Debuff
    Per cast: 15p
    Cap: 300
    Note: Exc. Dia/Bio

    Auto Attack(only when hit)
    Per turn: 5p
    Cap: 150
Note: One round of attack(s) count as one turn, so even if Dual Wield or H2H attack multiple times during that round, it would still be count as one turn.

    Skillchain
    Per chain: 20p
    Cap: 300
Note: No difference in point for lv1 or lv2, but lv3 has yet to be tested.

    Damage dealt(Physical)
Per hit: 10% of the damage
    Cap: Not sure
Note: Possibly different cap for each monster? 750p cap for Eldieme and Garlaige Fortification, even attacking another fortification would not get over the 750p.

    Damage dealt(Magical)
Per hit: 10% of the damage
    Cap: Not sure
Note: Have a seperate cap from physical damage. Not sure if Skillchain's damage is counted into here. Possibly different cap for each monster again.

    Damage taken
Per hit: 10% of the damage
    Cap: Not sure
Note: Overkill will still be counted, for example, taking a 400 damage hit with 100 hp left, you will still receieve 400 damage worth of point. Tested and proved(according to them).

    Cure
Per cast: 10% of amount cured
    Cap: 500

    Raise
    Per cast: 20p
    Cap: Not sure

    Attack toward fortification
    Per hit: 20p
    Cap: 200
Note: This is seperate from "Damage dealt".

    Death
    Per death: -30p
    Cap: Not sure

Action that will not be counted for point or does not have its own category

    Ranged attack/Weapon skill
Point will be counted toward "Damage Dealt".
*They didn't state, but nothing is said about if Magic damage WS are counted toward "Damage Dealt(Magical)" or not.

    MP healing
    No point will be given.
*They didn't expand on what this mean, I am guessing Devotion?

    DoT spells
Dia, Bio, and all SCH's Helix will only have the initial damage counted toward "Damage dealt(Magical)".

    Pet command(Attack)
As in using that command, I believe. This will grant no point.

Sorry, English isn't my 1st language, so some of it may not make much sense. And sorry for the hmm.. very scarce wall'o'text(net'o'text?), well, long post.

The Physical Damage Given and Auto-attack parts are quite wrong.

I'll test it some more, but from my results I posted earlier, it doesn't match.

    Two I just looked at:

    - 1 hit for 48 damage, I was awarded with 5 Exp, 4 AN. 5 Exp for my swing, plus 4 damage for 10% of 48 rounded down would be 9 Exp.

    - 2 hits for 130 damage total, I was awarded with 30 Exp. I didn't record whether this was in one attack round or two, I forget what sub I was, but either way it doesn't match up: 13 Exp from damage, plus either 5 or 10, would be 18 or 23 Exp.

The only time I've ever seen exp award that was not a multiple of 5 is after being scaled down from a job that isn't 61+. If were were to be charitable and assume that both your tests are accurate (which I believe) and that that resource's information is correct (which I haven't seen good reason not to believe yet), then the answer to this discrepancy will probably lie in however the exp earned gets rounded up or down to the nearest multiple.

Perhaps, but of the two I posted, one would have to have been rounded down (the first one), and the other rounded up to make any sense.

Oh well, the information posted on that resource page is good enough to follow approximately. I've got more important things to work on, including my ongoing large sample-size investigation of the different levels of Treasure Hunter.

Aspir doesn't seem to give any points.

Did aspir and blink and only got 20xp/10 AN. I drained 74 MP if that helps any.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

I wonder if Drain would give points (when your HP is not already full compared to when it is full).

Linua: I don't think you're being emo. If you wanted to increase your points I would suggest to do as many things as possible. The dmg ur avatar does should count as points. Melee. Use MP cheap spells from your SJ, protect, paralyze, etc etc. And don't be afraid to get hit - this does earn you points.

I did test 'no effect' from casting Stoneskin twice, I did not receive points for it. Also, I got stunned by a mob (took no damage), and also received no points.

For the damage testing. The 10% figure could be accurate, but there has to be something else there. It's not complete so please for the love of god stop supporting it Suiram. Looking at the 2 tests posted above for 1 hit on a monster we know:

130 damage from a 2 handed weapon gave 15 EXP and 1 hit worth 48 dmg from a 1 handed weapon have 5 EXP. They claim that auto attack is 5 EXP, so the exp given is as follows:

    130 damage gave 10 EXP
    48 damage gave 0 EXP

Anyway you look at that it is not 10%. Using only those 2 pieces of info that dmg is being rounded by the 100. Obviously more data is needed. After an allied tag runs for 15 minutes rounding to the nearest 100 would have very little overall effect, but if you want to be able to accurately test the EXP earned knowing how things are rounded is very important. Also in order for the 10% to 'fit' with our numbers, critical hits must offer a bonus.

Also before you post it once again Suiram, say that each tag is rounded to the nearest 5 (i am not saying that it isn't). But for damage testing purposes: 10% of 130 is 13, now if that were rounded to the nearest 5 that would be 15 - not 10. Either one of 2 things is happening:

1 - Damage gets rounded by the 100 (Rounding a number before taking the percentage is bad math in most cases)
2 - EXP is only granted once you reach certain intervals of damage performed. (ie: once you reach 100 dmg done, you receive 10%, then once 200 is reached you obtain 10%). If this is the case the interval could be anything above 48 (50 or 100 looking like a safe bet).

Rounding down numbers and have an amount of damage you must obtain before receiving points is very similar. However rounding down numbers that 'meet the half way mark', is simply bad practice. If they are using 50 points for damage as some type of interval it would explain why we seem to get points that end in multiples of 5s (as far as damage testing is concerned).

    ??????????5p???
I guess this part is really saying that the point will be rounded to the nearest multiple of 5.

And guess I was slow, same exact source as Reinheart's(both got it from the JP page), well saved me time from typing the EXP/AN cap.

At level 16(PUP) Protect on self only gave me 8exp/10notes. Does that help with figuring out how level changes reward? I waited a few minutes(actually until the thing ended, I was just waiting away from the stronghold).

I will tank for anyone who will toss me a Cure III once a minute or so, as in most cases that will help keep my TP gain positive.

You want to melee, but not babysit everyone?

Make a macro with an /assist for the monster you're fighting, and cure the guy tanking, don't worry about the melees complaining about aoe damage, do worry about the guy keeping the mob from eating your squishy mage guts.

I like to cure myself, it improves my points, but having two or three people latch onto the mob I've got very established hate on, and then watch me get whittled away because it's doing nothing but TP moves back to back to back, that sucks. Quickstep > Desperate Flourish > Go find a new mob.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Ok I did a few more tests, which should clear up some translations concerning doing melee damage.

EXP gained from melee damage basically works like this: for every 50 damage you do, you get 5 EXP. Which is where the 10% comes from. If you do 48 damage you do not get any EXP for that damage, if you do 75 damage you are still getting only 5 EXP. Once you hit 100 damage total you get 10 EXP and this continues for each 50 damage done. No this damage does not have to be done in one hit, meaning that it does add up until your tags expire (unless there is a cap). You have to reach multiples of 50 (50, 100, 150, 200, 250 etc etc) in order to increase the EXP you gain. Does this have an overall cap? I have no idea.

Auto attack rounds does infact seem to grant the player 5 EXP. Critical hits also add a bonus of 5 EXP.
For example: 1 attack that hits for a critical of 157 damage is worth 25 EXP (5 from auto attack, 5 from crit, and 15 from damage). Does gaining EXP bonus of 5 per crit hit have a cap? I don't know.

So while exp earned via damage is not as simple as 10%, it is far easier (if you are doing tests) to parse or count all ur damage then round down to the nearest 50, and then finally figure out the 10%.

On to EXP gained per cure. I has half hoping that this would work the same was as melee damage, as in you get an extra 5 for simply auto-attacking, in this case an extra 5 for casting cure. This does not happen. However everything else remains the same. Which means you get 5 EXP for each 50HP cured. I casted several cure spells totaling 1048 HP cured. I received 100 EXP for this. The extra 48 HP cured do not count since I failed to hit the '50' mark. The 48 does not get rounded, it simply does not count. This granted 51 AN, which kinda makes me think that the 'left over HP cured' do count towards AN possibly.

Taking Damage. Taking damage as well seems to follow the pattern. For each 50 damage you take you get 5 EXP.
If you take 0-49 you get 0 EXP etc etc as above.
    -------------------------------

I also hit the cap for 2 more time intervals (still first star)
    6th minute: 405 EXP
    7th minute: 475 EXP

Action Performed: Casted Invisible on Self
Earned: 20 EXP and 10 AN

    -------------------------------

BRP, yes that is great info. At level 16 you receive 40% of what a level 75 would have earned.

I really like people posting what JP have found out, it makes it a lot easier to make comparisons and to get ideas from. When I edit the OP, I won't be putting their info in (unless we are getting the same results ofc), simply because we can't discuss it with them. For example looking at their list, they have the cap of 150 for self buffs, we (in this thread) haven't tested this, but it is implied in Wizerds posts about testing his wifes lvl 56 character. The song cap is what I am curious about. Would there be a song cap of 150 on self buff songs?

(for my damage tests I was RDM/WHM lvl 73, no double attack or duel wield, if anyone wishes to see the numbers I got to come to my conclusions - other than the minute caps I will provide it. I won't type out everything I did to reach cap cause I did alot lol)

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Damage under 50 does grant points.

    My last Campaign(a week ago):
    Allied Ribbon of Glory.
    WHM60/NIN30
Arcana Breaker: club skill 110(Decided that dual wield at 30 is too lol)
About 40 minutes of Campaign in Citadel offense, beating on the Fortification, zero death of course. I earned about 950's EXP.
My damage on average was about 10-15(lolweapon + lolskill), and I used all my TP on Starlight, been casting Haste on myself for the whole duration, so if the JP wiki is correct. I would be getting: (Self buff) 150p + (Auto attack) 150p + (Attack toward fortification) 200p, which would get me about 500 EXP if damage under 50 isn't counted, so where is the other 450+ EXP from? I would also be under EXP cap due to my level being 60, so in theory I had probably done over 1000p worth of work.

Anyways I came back to post that what I thought is not complete concerning EXP from doing melee dmg. Damage dealt must still reach 50 before it is counted, but Critical Hits are not worth 5, they seem to be worth 10. Also, points gained from auto-attacking have some type of cap per mob. If you attack the same mob 30 times you wont max out your auto- attack cap. Im am going to assume that in fortification situations a different mob would be represented as when the fortification regains full life.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

With all this info I still dont understand what SJ/actions would get me the most EXP. Been doin it on PLD/NIN only in jugner from 70-73 now, im on Copper Emblem. Now I do good dmg and get alot of hate, usually my exp in a multiple wave fight, will be 1500-2000, have hit 2400ish on some really long fights lately.

Any suggestions in general for max exp on PLD? Spread out JA use? Use what SJ, nin/war/rdm?
