Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Based on what we know now for fortifications, in a long, enemyless offensive fight in a dungeon zone like Eldieme and CNest (less so in Garlaige since the CA is located so far away), the ideal time to renew your tags seems to be after 950 exp is accrued (200 cap for attack against fort, 750 cap for damage dealt to fort)?

For instance, as Iron Emblem, the time cap for me rises at 78exp/min, so every 13 minutes the time cap reaches 1015. Since I'll also get some additional exp for other things like buffing (I've gotten 1480 in Eldieme before so i know in practice it'll be more than 950), trading in tags every 13 minutes at that rank will ensure that I get the most out of my tags without needlessly returning to the NPC. This is assuming I don't care about capping AN which I really don't since I always make enough to rank up over the course of 5 days and am sitting on 100k already if they release good items for it.

I use /rdm and usually cap out on both Exp and Notes. I just keep Aquaveil and Phalanx up, then start tanking a mob or two, use the ja's when they're up. I don't bother with Stoneskin since most of the points I get will be from me taking the damage and curing it. Just flash one or two and hold them until people get done killing other stuff. If you're into the DD side, it will be harder to cap out. I usually go solo, but when in parties with different jobs I find that I routinely received much more exp than they did.

1 hit for 48 in Campaign gave me 5 Exp / 4 AN, Jayd. I mentioned it before. Your tag wasn't on long enough, it seems, because you shoulda got points for it (even if it was just the 5 for Auto-attack).

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Ya I got 5 EXP and 4 AN as well for 1 hit (did 44 dmg). I just mean the those EXP/AN aren't coming from the damage I did, since it's under 50 total damage.

I wanted to get more intervals before I got my new medal, been siting on the first star for awhile now. There is an odd pattern with it. Just to try to be clear as possible, the following are the caps per minute. If you are first star and you have your tags on for 5 minutes you would get a maximum of 340 EXP, if you had tags on for 6 minutes your maximum would be 405 EXP etc etc, as shown below.

    1st minute: 65 EXP
    2nd minute: 135 EXP
    3rd minute: 200 EXP
    4th minute: 270 EXP
    5th minute: 340 EXP
    6th minute: 405 EXP
    7th minute: 475 EXP
    8th minute: 540 EXP
    9th minute: 610 EXP
    10th minute: 680 EXP
    11th minute: 745 EXP
    12th minute: 815 EXP
    13th minute: 880 EXP
    14th minute: 950 EXP
    15th minute: 1020 EXP
    16th minute: 1085 EXP

    The pattern:
I'm going to call my base exp 65, since that is what I get for the first minute, so starting with that I get the following increases in EXP per minute:

    65 70 65 70 70 65 70 65 70 70 65 70 65 70 70 65

Conclusion: Concerning maximum EXP gained per minute the chart that is on the JP wiki is correct. Nobody will ever see the base number that they use for each rank. But using their numbers will tell you what your maximum EXP is so as as you always round down to the nearest five.

Example: My base number on the jp wiki is 68 EXP. What will I get after after 6 minutes with tags on?
    68 x 6 = 408
(round down to the nearest 5) = 405

All of the calculations for the different actions performed and caps per minute are very much the same. Any action that would grant you under 5 EXP is not counted (but it will add up until you reach the 5 EXP mark). At least for higher level players.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

I noticed something earlier today in Campaign, which I haven't done enough battles to verify but I figured I'd share for the time being anyway. I'm going to go ahead and suggest that the time cap rises once per minute. The reason being is that I noticed whenever the exp and AN award were both capped, to where the AN award was slightly higher than the exp award, the AN award was always divisible by 78, the per-minute cap for my highest medal. Then in campaigns where AN was not capped, but exp was (AN award was sufficiently greater than 1/2 of exp), my exp was always the greatest multiple of 5 less than some multiple of 78. For instance in this most recent campaign I got 935/936, 936 being 78 * 12. In an earlier campaign I got 1325/10xx (didn't write down the AN award), and 78*17 is 1326, and 1325 is the greatest multiple of 5 less than that.

I have only done a little over a half dozen campaigns since recognizing this, so I can't claim this with complete certainty, but I think it should pan out, and helps solves what was a mystery to me, why the AN award would sometimes be higher than the exp award by random amounts.

Edit: Typed this before Jayd had posted but funny we both recognized the same thing lol

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Interesting thread full of great info. I do have a question:

Say that as a SCH, I show up, use Accension + Cure IV, and heal 9 NPCs for 430. I then proceed to do absolutely nothing for 10 minutes. If I cashed in my tag after ten minutes, would I get full exp and ap?

    Suiram:

Very nice find. The results that have been posted with AN exceeding EXP confirm what you have found.

From Wizerds damage testing he obtained 60/64, then he went all out (even more) and still received 60/64. Wizerd at the time of posting that was on his third ribbon (ie:64 per minute from jp wiki).

From my self buffing I received 65/68. First star is 68 per minute cap. Wizerds test is more reliable than mine though, since I never tried to surpass that number.

    Toth:

Well we havent tested how much Accension gives, nor AoE cures, and you haven't posted your rank, so I can't answer that question accurately.

I'm going to guess that no it would not give you full EXP, and most certainly not full AN. If AoE cures on NPC works the same as regular cure you would get 385 EXP from that action, and if your ability may also grant you 20 EXP. So about 405 exp? (havent tested those abilites so that is only a guess). I used the number of 3,870 for total HP cured.

I am Allied Ribbon $$$$ atm and usually 2 Accension + Cure 4 (and maybe a few odd cures and a raise or two) waves nets me about 1k exp every 10 minutes or so. What I am curious about however is whether if I used those 2 Accensions in the first minute and then nothing for the next 9, would I still get the 1k exp when I cash out my tag?

Exp you receive is cumulative and does not go down. Do whatever you want and assuming the fight goes on long enough you'll get the exp. Actually being able to get your full exp is hampered by the fact you often have 60+ people orgasming WSs and then complaining about the 400 exp they get.

If it was actual numbers you were wanting, if nobody else does I could probably tomorrow. I usually see it in the ones with multiple waves, I just do everything in the first wave, and use the 2nd for down time. By that time more people will have shown up and I end up not doing anything, but still get capped exp if not capped notes. The exp/min limit doesn't mean you have to do that much worth of exp every minute to receive it.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Bit of a long one - here I discuss ways that non-blood tanking classes may get more exp/AN out of their campaigns.

Though there is a cap for different actions (healing, damage dealt, damage taken, buffs (self), buffs (others), debuffing etc...), these caps are for the whole length of duration of the tags.

It is already obvious, that you can max out exp/AN for 1min by spamming self buffs for that 1min. So in theory you can get max exp/AN (that would be 4690 AN and 4500 exp) by repeating this every min (this DOES NOT take account of time lost in assessing and getting new tags).

Most people (blood tanks especially) get their exp/AN up by garnering a lot of exp/AN points in a short period of time and then hoping that the campaign lasts long enough for them to get its worth.

Is there a way of getting full exp/AN for those people that can't get such a large amount of exp/AN points through damaging or being damaged by monsters - thinking of mages here/

Current cap for me is 78 exp or AN/min. Assuming there are no monsters, can cap both exp and AN in a 2 minute period that would add up to 155 exp and 156 AN or just capping exp in a 5 minute period would give 390 exp and 225 AN.

    1. Buffs to yourself x8 = 150exp 75AN
    2. Buffs to others x30 = 300exp 150AN

Buffs to yourself is easy - cycle through 8 cheap bar/bara spells. Buff to others is trickier (unless you are in a party) - I assume you get no exp/AN for a protect I that has no effect on someone because they have a higher protect. You would need to find someone (pc or npc) unbuffed and spam protect on them. Would be easier if you were in a party or even just duo - bara spells could net you a lot of exp/AN if 6 people.

If there are monsters in the area then things get a lot easier. Full exp/AN every 4 mins (310exp/312AN), or for full exp every 9 mins (700exp).

    1. Buffs to yourself x8 = 150exp 75AN
    2. Buffs to others x30 = 300exp 150AN
    3. Debuffs to monsters x20 = 300exp 150AN

For Debuffs would want to cycle through a load - paralyse, slow, blind, gravity, poison etc... But the ones of most value may be bind sleep and sleep2 - because if the monster is being fought these will be broken and can be reapplied soon after (watch your hate though). Cycling through absorb spells for dark knights and various non-standard debuffs for blue mages will be good for them.

Now obviously this takes the fun out of campaign a lot, but may help certain classes of players who cant take or deal the damage as required. This may include sub 70 melee could subbing a mage job and WHM/SMN/BLM/SCH using this time cap to their advantage and handing in tags more frequently. Obviously this increases the risk of campaign death without tags!

    Three final points.

    1. This method is heavy on the mp - as I am a RDM this does not really concern me, but for others will want to take into account mp healing time.

    2. Heavy DD and Blood tanks would seem to be best off using there ability to gain exp/AN in large spikes, and keeping tags on for as long as possible. Other might be better off augmenting their usual activities with a certain amount of debuffs and buffs, and handing in their tags every 8-10 mins.

    3. These calculations are done on a base level 78exp/AN per minute - as you rise in rank, the time required before cap on the various classes of activities is reached will be shorter.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

A few random things that I've thought about for campaign, as far as getting points in different categories goes:

    - Enspells. They increase your melee damage but contribute to a separate magical cap. Especially nice if you have natural enhancing skill like PLD, their usefulness is debatable if you don't.
    - Elemental debuffs. One thing I've found about debuffing is that someone else has already cast Slow/Para/Blind, 90% of the time. Yes, you could spam sleep and bind, but elemental debuffs will actually do something useful while contributing to your point total. Choke/Burn/Shock will increase both melee and mage damage, using anything else is bad and you should feel bad.
    - Dispel. If you don't have or want to use /BLM, dispel is another great way to get debuff points and help out at the same time. If only you could get points for everyone else's increased damage on a dispelled Arm Block...

Still with this info its confusing to tell what to do for max exp/an. Mostly the bold part, why would someone be better off turning tags in after 8mins, and not just repeating bar/en spells etc for full length, and gettin more exp, how could it lower amount?? Also about the cap per min thing, Is this saying like for PLD, dont use all ur abilties in 1min, but rather use half of them and wait a few mins to use other half..? Or just use everything asap when its up to accumulate exp towards ur end total?

The reason for renewing tags is that certain actions have a very small cap, like self-buffs capping at 150 XP. If your only sources of XP/AN are these actions, and the battle is long enough, you will have to renew your tags to circumvent those caps.

I don't see this is the reason why... and still can't see why would you renew the tag if you only concern the max XP gained.

Say you have a loading bar where 100% is 3000 exp and it loads 1%/sec.
If you renew the tag, it is as if you pause the load and it won't progress for a slight second until you get new tag.

They still grow in the same rate as the previous tag (1%/sec).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I Yuri-G is mentioning that if you only apply self buffs, hit the cap of 150, and never trade your tag, you'll only get 150 XP.

For example, if it takes you 5 minutes to hit the 150 XP cap, and the campaign battle lasts ~30 minutes, you can get ~30/5 or ~6 times the XP by trading in tags. That's ~6*150 for ~900 XP. On the other hand, if you only used one tag and never traded it in for a new one, you'd only get 150 XP since that's the cap for a single tag.

Every category, has a cap per each min? Or some things (self buffs) can only get u 150ish for the whole duration of tags always? I dont get if self buffs/others buffs/raise etc, works the same as dealing dmg/taking dmg.

Re: Campaign Battle, EXP & AN Earned

Each type of action has a cap for total XP. For example, you can only cast 8 self-buffs before more self-buffs would be pointless, as they are 20 XP apiece and the cap is 150. You could cast 200 self-buffs and still only get 150 XP, unless you renew your tags to start fresh.

The per-minute cap, on the other hand, is just a way of keeping people from getting massive XP totals by spamming an action and turning in their tags, then repeating. The thing to remember about this cap is that it doesn't limit you from earning more XP, it limits you from receiving that XP.

For example, let's say your per-minute cap is 60 XP, and in your first minute of action you cast 20 self-buffs. If you turn in your tags after one minute, you get 60 XP. If you turn them in after two minutes, you get 120. If you turn them in after three, you only get 150 because even though your 3-minute cap is 180 and self-buffs are 20 points apiece, self-buffs cap out at 150. Note that you can literally spam buffs in the first minute and go afk for the next two and this would still work.

To expound on that, say you wanted to do campaign by self-buffing only. What you'd want to do is to cast 8 self-buffs to cap out at 150 points, then turn your tags in once every three minutes to circumvent that 150-point cap and start over. If you wanted to do Campaign solely on buffing other people, you would cast 30 buffs at 10 XP apiece to reach the cap of 300 XP, and you'd renew your tags every five minutes because of the 60 XP per-minute cap. Make sense?
